This is a good historical romance! It’s predictable in all the right ways, it’s got fun plots and mysteries to go along with the main romance, and the characters are really solid!

I listened to the audiobook and it’s narrated by one woman, including the sections from the dude’s pov. Her accents for the various characters were really good!

I am sad to admit that I struggled with the narration for this novel. Most notably the accent/voice used for the MMC Will, which had me struggling to continue listening to the book. Having heard great things about the first novel in the series, I decided to see if I could also gain access to the ebook version of Curled Up with an Earl, which I found myself enjoying being able to read along with the audiobook. I am struggling to put my finger on exactly what was happening with my more negative reaction to the narration. Perhaps it was also something in the almost overly dramatic tone/breathy quality to the FMC which had me feeling like it wasn't doing justice to the characterization of Lucy when I was solely reading the chapter.

I believe I might have rated this novel with another star if I had read it via e-book in its entirety rather than listen to it primarily via audiobook. I do have the first novel in the series, and am looking forward to reading it.

Lucy spends much of her time doing botanical research into poisons for her father, but when members of society begin to be poisoned, her father is a prime suspected. Will, is going undercover to try to determine who the killer is.

I wish Will had come clean to Lucy a little earlier about who he was because the murder investigation was very fun, but it was still an great addition to the series.

I thought the narrator did a great job giving Lucy and Will their own voices.

Curled Up With An Earl is a delightful, steamy Victorian era romance, more in the style of a Bridgerton than an Austen. Our heroine, Lucy Bertram, is a member of the Byronic Book Club is a whip smart, bookish botanist with a flair for independence. Will Armstrong is a sexy undercover Scottish aristocrat investigating a string of murders centered around Charles Darwin and the Linnean Society. As Will's investigation begins to intertwine with Miss Bertram's search for her missing brother, they find themselves inching closer and closer to a dangerous killer and perhaps... love?

The language was overly modern at times, but the characters were endearing. The narration is excellent and does a great job distinguishing between character. It was overall a wonderful listening experience.

The concept of this series - a Byronic book club of three bluestocking debutantes - is one that I am absolutely here for; however, I found the first book in the series to be only all right with the major criticism being aimed at wanting more depth to the characters and the romance. I did have high hopes for future books because of the brief glimpses that we got of the other romances.

Curled Up with an Earl, however, is not the improvement that I was hoping for. The plot to this book was initially more intriguing than the first installment in the series, but the pacing is just so drawn out that I have lost interest in solving the various mysteries promised. Neither lead character is really calling to me and their romance isn't particularly interesting to me because we are being told, more than shown, the tension between them.

I will still attempt the third book since the characters seem more interesting to me, but I'm not holding out too much hope.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for an ARC of this audiobook in exchange for a fair and honest review!

I burn for you. Giving 5 stars for this book. It hits all of the spots, smart heroine, irresistible Scottish lord, tension and mystery, on page sex scenes and a happy ever after!

The narrators voice is incredible! So expressive! Though some of Williams bits leave a little something to be desired.

Will I be picking up the Byronic Book Club 1 Up All Night With A Good Duke?! Absolutely. Will I be waiting for #3 Tall, Duke and Scandalous to come out?! You know it!

This book is very good. The mystery is very good. I love the historical aspects. The characters are both loveable and hated. You also cheer for certain characters and hope others get exactly what they deserve. There are very spicy moments, and those are a mixture of both spice and sweet. The ending is, oh my gosh, perfect. I love it when women stand up for themselves. This book pulls you in and makes you want to read more. I also feel that if you enjoyed Bridgerton that you will also enjoy this book.

This book has many of the elements I enjoy; an intelligent heroine, a Scottish hero, and a bit of mystery and action. If you like those things you will enjoy this book. The reason for 3 stars is that I did not always find myself engaged while reading. I also listened to the audiobook, the narrator gets 3 stars as well.

I really really liked this, just as I loved book one! Curled Up with an Earl was cozy and soft and perfect for midnight reading. Will and Lucy were perfectly matched and the little things they did for each other throughout the book made my heart so happy. (Also the warm milk cracked me up.)

I think the only thing I have issues with is the complete abruptness and 180° of the ending and certain characters. I’m in my revenge era and so I thought some things were handled a bit too prettily.

But even then, I loved their relationship, the mistaken (intentional on his part) identity, and the plot as a whole. He was also just a vibe. The sex scenes were good and hot and Will had one quote that was just so out-of-the-blue perfect?? (Hint: cats)

As for the audiobook, I think it’s the same narrator as book one! I liked both books via audio and would recommend them both. I do love a good brogue. It took me OUT.
