Mirrorverse: Pure of Heart is a delightful, action-packed adventure filled with familiar Disney characters. We meet Snow White smack dab in the middle of her traditional tale, but things are anything but ordinary. One fateful day she returns to her cottage to be met with evil versions of the seven dwarves and she pulls from a strength she never knew she had to defeat them. One visit from Mickey Mouse later and Snow White's joined a band of classic Disney characters for a quest to defeat the fractured mirror and restore her universe to peace.

Delilah Dawson displays an astute and passionate understanding of the Disney world with her spot-on characterizations for every Disney character present here (I won't spoil who they are). I've been a fan of her writing for years, I especially appreciate how easy her writing is to read, readers as young as 9 or 10 would gobble this book up. Dawson's also adept at a quick-moving plot, and Pure of Heart takes off from the first chapter and never backs off until the very end.

I honestly don't have a single bad thing to say about Pure of Heart, other than I can't wait for the next entry in the Mirrorverse. For Disney fans, Pure of Heart is a no-brainer. With familiar characters in a familiar landscape, mixed with a brand new multiverse-like story, it will enthrall and delight readers of all ages.

So, there is a video game called The Mirrorverse involving Disney heroes with amplified power tasked as Guardians fighting against evil beings created by Fractured Magic. This book turns that into an action-packed story.
Snow White discovers abilities she didn’t know she had and joins Mickey and the Guardians in fighting against the Evil Queen, who uses fractured magic to create creatures who attack them. I enjoyed the story. Seeing Snow White realize she was more than just a damsel in distress was fabulous. Rapunzel, Sleeping Beauty, Stitch, and Sulley are also part of the Guardians, and it’s fun to watch them banter and work together to fight evil. Hades helps the Guardians and delivers some funny sarcasm along the way. If you are a Disney fan, then this book is for you.

A fantastic read for any Disney universe fan! Hoping for another one soon. Very cute book and was so neat to see multiple Disney characters teaming up. The nods to other characters and previous movies were fun Easter eggs.

Why did I not expect this to be another "what if" series from Disney? It definitely was and the idea? Epic. The execution? Not so much. I was left slightly disappointed by this one as it felt like too much was happening all at once and the story moved too quickly - not providing enough time to figure out what's happening. Though, this was a very interesting take on Snow White, making it a dystopian story.

I was super excited to read this book, but my ARC expired before I got the chance. But I ordered it for my library and will be reading it as soon as it comes in!

I had a hard time putting this book down. The day starts simple enough for Snow, but takes a dark turn when she enters a small cottage. Instead of seeing friends, she must fight some strange looking foes. Once the battle is finished, she gets some answers and makes some new friends who want to help save her world. The mission won’t be an easy one, and along the way they will face some powerful foes. Yet as this adventure comes to a close, we see Snow make a big decision.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC. These are my own thoughts:
I like the idea but the execution is done poorly. While it was entertaining, I found the dialogue jumped around a lot between characters, trying to replicate how watching it would feel like. Snow White's voice was spot on but for everyone else, it felt too fast. I'm excited for the Mirrorverse in general as a fan of the game, but I think Pure of Heart was very weak and could have been told better. I did see this was available as an audiobook too, so perhaps this would be a great fit for a narrator who can do the voices.

This was a good book. Good. But not great. The repetition was tedious at times, and I am sure that there were some placeholder words that were meant to be filled in with actual adjectives at a later date. I’m sure that someone in the age group would quite enjoy it. Unfortunately that wasn’t me.

🍎Plot: A tale of Snow White that is familiar, but different. Snow White is endowed with magical powers she must learn to control before a dark force takes over her friends and home.

🍎Review: A new, dark-ish twist on familiar Disney characters is a refreshing reading coming from the world of Disney. Young readers who enjoy the Mirrorverse game will be a fan of this new series.

Step into the Disney Mirrorverse, a brand-new realm full of endless adventure, where mirrored reflections of beloved Disney and Pixar characters are amplified and transformed, becoming battle-ready Guardians that must unite to defeat a powerful evil that threatens their home worlds and beyond. Set in a fantasy land that is familiar but slightly changed, the story begins as Snow White helps a young deer in the forest. This isn’t the Snow White that Disney fans know: she has been recently transformed by the creation of the Disney Mirrorverse and given magical powers that she does not yet know how to wield.

Despite her new abilities and the strange things happening in her world, Snow White, or “Snow” as her friends often call her, has been carrying on as normal…until now. As she returns to her cottage, Snow spots her seven (Dwarves) friends with dark, angry expressions, and glowing white eyes. They attack her, claiming they need to capture “the heart of Snow White.” Snow desperately tries to reason with her friends, but they refuse to listen to her, and she ultimately has to use the strange magic she has recently acquired to fend them off. Snow is horrified when it seems that she has accidentally killed her friends in her attempt to protect herself.

It is only when a strange talking creature, who she learns to be Sorcerer Mickey, the ruler of the Disney Mirrorverse, arrives and explains that the creatures she defeated were not her friends. They were a group of Fractured: evil copies created by Dark Magic. Snow believes that the evil Queen has taken her friends, and it is up to Snow to retrieve them and the Fractured Mirror, the source of the Mirrorverse’s power, before it can be used to destroy Snow’s home world forever. But Snow doesn’t need to face the Queen alone. Mickey assigns her a team of Guardians, powerful beings from many different worlds who have committed to thwarting the Fractured and protecting the Mirrorverse from evil.

Snow meets Tiana (Princess and the Frog)—an expert potion-maker—Rapunzel (and Pascal)—a fighter who knows how to wield a frying pan—Lilo’s companion Stitch—a chaotic blue alien who can change forms— Sulley from Monsters, Inc— a monster with a big heart—and Hades—the lord of the underworld, who has offered to join the mission to see what this whole “Guardian gig” is about. This unlikely crew ventures into Snow’s world, where they find growing Fractured, a determined huntsman, and a newly poisoned dark forest. On the way to the palace, each character faces a challenge seemingly created just for them.

This story is a bit on the young side for my tastes. The intended audience is 7th to 12th graders. The way this story ends, it would not surprise me if Dawson or another author picks up the series from here.

I’ve just finished reading Disney’s Mirrorverse: Pure of Heart by Delilah S. Dawson. This is the first tie-in book to the Mirrorverse app game. I don’t know much about the app but this book is fantastic. It tells the story of Snow White’s quest to save the seven Dwarfs who have been kidnapped by the Evil Queen with the help of the Guardians, a team of Disney characters created by Mickey to protect the Mirrorverse from villains using Fractured magic, a dark purple, crystal-like energy. I already personally love books that have Dawson as their author thanks to my Star Wars love, make Phasma 2 happen, Random House, and this book just adds to my love of her work. We get a lot of good character development for Snow as she’s our main perspective character who is introduced to this wider multiverse and how she becomes more than the damsel we know her as. Other Guardians along for the journey include: Tiana, the clear leader of this particular team, Rapunzel, Stitch, Sulley, and, out of nowhere, Hades, who quickly became my favorite for the dark humor. You can tell Delilah understood these classic characters even while making the changes to fit this universe. I highly suggest this book purely for the what-ifs. Mirrorverse: Pure of Heart is out now.

This is a fun, middle grade read perfect for Disney fans. I didn’t realize there would be appearances by so many other Disney characters. Those familiar with Disney movies will definitely understand the references and descriptions. Snow White must bravely ward off the evil that has infiltrated her world even when she’s not sure she has the ability to. The story touches upon finding inner strength and recognizing everyone’s special talents, Those who enjoy twists on fairytales and are Disney fans will love this. Thank you NetGalley and Disney Publishing for the arc.

Ok. Let me start out by saying this book went in a totally different way then I saw it going. I saw it as a dystopian retelling of Snow White, and I was so excited for it! Spoiler alert I was wrong... Snow White starts out as normal Snow White (I could even hear her voice like in the movie), but then the dwarves becomes bad. Snow White kills them... And you will never guess who shows up! Mickey Mouse! Yeah, no joke! So to say that my original thoughts were off is an understatement. Also, all of this happens within the first 15 pages of the book. I like fast paced books but not the pace that this book was going. I will say that I did enjoy seeing different characters from different movies making an appearance.

This was REALLY well written, and I really liked the twist on the world and characters! There's just something about trying to picture Snow White with a giant axe?!?! Incredible. Will definitely recommend to Disney fans looking for something out of the box!

This was a cute story for any Disney fan. The story takes place in a Mirrorverse so the characters that we have known from the Disney stories in the past aren't necessarily the ones that we are seeing now. Mickey is the head of the Guardians. Their job is to go searching for the fractured mirror that is wrecking havoc across the realms. I think this book would be good for younger or middle grade readers. The writing is a little choppy in places but overall, the story is well developed. I would definitely add it to my classroom library.

Disney has created another “what if” series. This time the universes are kept balanced by the mirrors. The light mirror and the dark mirror. When something happens and the dark mirror lands in the universe of a Snow White whose land appears to being poisoned and her friends are missing. When she’s attacked by Fractured versions of her friends, she realizes that she herself has changed and she can fight. And her communication with nature seems stronger. And then Mickey appears to help her understand. When she travels back to her universe to rescue her friends and cure it, she’s joined by the Guardians: Tiana, Rapunzel, Stitch, Sully, and Hades. As they fight to save Snow’s world their friendships grow. And Snow learns to fight with them, by herself and as a team. Snow comes into her own, with her doubts but doesn’t back down from the fight. A fun adventure in a new series.

I am normally a huge fan of Disney retellings, especially since their princessess don't usually have much to do in the original stories. Unfortunately, this suffered from the opposite problem: it had way too much going on. I had no idea what was happening from the beginning, and since the story moved so quickly, there was no time to figure anything out.

Thank you NetGalley and Disney Publishing Worldwide for allowing me a copy of this arc.

To begin, I will admit that Snow White is my least favorite princess in the Disney pantheon of princesses. She's too damsel-in-distress for my tastes. Only, when I saw this book, I thought that this would be interesting because it looked like she might have to grow a spine.

And I was right. This book takes the original characters and shoves them into a multiverse to try and defeat a force that is changing the worlds for the worse. Snow White has to kick butt on crystalline creatures that look like the dwarves. She then is recruited to become a fledgling Guardian to stop an evil force from swallowing her world.

Snow White has to discover how to be stronger and not weak-willed and saccharine sweet as she is faced with life and death situations along with other Guardians from the Disney worlds.

It's very fast-paced. There is very little rest between action sequences. I was impressed with how I could hear the voices of the different characters. They seemed very in tune to their movie counterparts through their dialogue and actions.

I was less impressed the sequence at a certain Prince's castle. It's one of the few action breaks we have in the story. I loved the end of that sequence though. The way the Prince talked to her. Omg! It was downright nasty! But it made the sequence cooler.

Another thing: Could he at least get a name?! He's just called the Prince. Ugh!

The second thing I have against this book is how a certain character is represented. It was unfair in the movie (Hercules for anyone who is wondering. I absolutely hate this movie because it misrepresents the entire pantheon of Gods), and it's equally unfair in the book. I can say that he was one of the easiest voices to hear, which was enjoyable. The snark was real and amusing.

I will say that I would read the second book of this series.

Thank you again NetGalley and Disney Publishing Worldwide.

I was given an advanced reader copy to review by Disney Press and Netgalley. My reviews are always honest and all opinions are my own. #MirrorversePureOfHeart #DelilahSDawson #DisneyPress #DisneyMirrorverse #Fantasy #BookReview #gifted #ad #Netgalley

I love Disney. I have loved Disney since I was young growing up with the Mouse and his friends and while other interests have come and gone Disney has remained. One thing I recently have loved by Disney is the Mirrorverse mobile game taking some of mother hobbies such as roleplaying games and fantasy and mixing them all together in a game that allows you to collect favourite characters who can fight, heal and go on magical quests was an instant win for me. So it is safe to say when I learned that there was a book that tied into the game with my tied favourite princess (the other being Belle) I was more than excited, I was ecstatic.

Set in a land that is familiar but slightly changed Snow White is introduced helping a young injured deer in the forest. But she is not the Snow White fans may expect and know, she is reflected and slightly evolved within the Mirrorverse with new abilities found there and instilled with Stella Magic that she must learn to wield while trying to save her world and her friends. I never like to spoil books but its safe to say the action is pretty much none stop. Snow returns to the cottage to meet seven angry dwarves with glowing white eyes. Repeating that they want to the heart of Snow White. Left with no choice she fights what she believes are a friends and some how manages to survive. Thankfully Stella Sorcerer Mickey Mouse arrives to explain to the distraught Snow White that these were not her friends but fractured copies and thus starts an adventure Snow White is not sure she is ready.

But Stellar Mickey does not expect Snow to go on this adventure alone, he assigns her a team of fellow guardians to help track down the Fractured Stellar Mirror, the cause to the problems the world is facing, and find Snow’s seven friends. Both of which Snow believes are being held by the Evil Queen. The team is a strange bunch; Tiana – an expert potions maker, Rapunzel – a fighter, Stitch – a chaotic blue alien who can change forms, Sulley – a monster with a big heart and Hades – lord of the Underworld who is really just here to see what happens. Together the unlikely crew set off on an adventure that will see them fight growing Fractured hordes, a poisoned forest and a determined Huntsman. And on the way each character seems to come face to face with a challenge created just for them. Will they make it to the Queen’s castle in time to save the world or will it be consumed by poison and fractured completely?

All I can say is wow. This book ended up ticking every box of things I love. Epic fights, funny moments, reads almost like a dungeons and dragons session, finding family and friends, characters dealing with their weaknesses, and so much more. First of all Snow White is tied as my favourite princess with Belle but this Snow White is arguable a hundred times better than the original. She keeps all her personality and aspects but is able to defend herself, fight and keep the group together. While arguably she is the main character each of the Guardians are brought to life vividly in their Mirrorverse guise while keeping aspects of themselves we know and love. Dawson is, in my opinion, a master at characterisation. She made each one pop off the page and seem real. I adored that Rapunzel had moments of doubt and near panic, that Stitch and Sulley make an amazing duo, Tiana’s level headed leadership and of course Hades sassy and often unhelpful help.

Now obviously this ties into the Mirrorverse game and understanding the game will make it easier to read but I don’t feel you need to (you totally should do though it’s addictive!). If you are a fan of fantasy, particularly in the vein of Dungeons and Dragons or Forgotten Realms, you will enjoy this one, I know I did. It’s got action, a bit of character development which is again brilliant when working with characters that are so well known and already out there, fun and most of all heart. At points it does read like a game but that is not a bad thing. It means that one it’s doing its job and two it might make you think of yourself or your roleplaying group!

I really, really hope we get a series of these like the Disney Twisted Tales, Disney Princes, Disney Queen’s Court or Disney Villains series. It’s something I would definitely read and I have already pre-ordered a physical copy. Basically if you love fantasy, Disney and or the Mirrorverse you will love this one and Bonus points from me and a slight spoiler for having Snow show the Prince who is really in charge!

This is an effort at creating a franchise that I think is doomed to fail. Dawson certainly did the best she could with what she had, but the source material, a mobile RPG, doesn’t lend itself well to novels. This would have been much better suited to a graphic novel.
