I really want to love this book. It is, at heart (hahaha) a good, fun, clean, wholesome book that captures the essence of the characters and has a solid storyline backing an already fun product of the mobile game. But, it falls into a trap much like the characters often do in the novel.
The first of the books based (loosely) off the mobile game of the same name, we find that Snow White wakes up and her seven friends/protectors have been replaced by creatures who look like them, but want to take her heart. After an excellent fight where Snow White discovers she can kick butt, she gets an unexpected visitor in the form of Mickey Mouse so he can repeat what the beginning of the game already told us, and introduces Snow White to the Guardians (not related to Guardians of the Galaxy - so no Groot or Rocket). They leave to find the mirror, defeat the person who much be behind it (wicked stepmother) and save Snow White's land, etc.
Like I said, this is a fun, exciting read where the author captures the essence of all of the characters. Often, you would be able to hear the voice actor of Hades delivering the lines in the book as you read. The fight scenes are plenty, there is comedy and team building moments, plus a spark of romance (this is a Snow White tale!). But...
This but...is the problem. The novel is intended for 7th grade to 12th grade audience and it shows too blatantly. The author tries to bring in all of the tropes for this range of an audience and it feels like reaching to touch everything, trying to get the middle graders while keeping the high schoolers interested and so the novels feels all over the place, never deciding a true audience and direction. I found myself stopping often and trying to figure out why this great storyline still felt disjointed and jarring at times until I figured out the issue. This seemingly small problem ruins the feel of the book as you read an otherwise perfect tale for a Disney and/or fairy tale fan.

I really enjoyed this book. A huge fan of disney and I think this book was written so well. Snow White was brilliant and reading how she grows and gets stronger and learns how to fight was so good. I was rooting for her all the way through.

Thank you for an advanced copy of this one! I enjoyed it so much!

This was such a fun, refreshing take on the fairy tale characters we all know and love. I was really invested in this story, and I just found it so unique. It has both dark and light moments, and it was just so engaging all the way around. I look forward to reading more from this new series!

This was a great adaptation of a wonderful game that Disney has released! The author really takes you to a new fairytale even though we are experiencing characters that have existed for years! I definitely would suggest this book to any Disney fan.

I admit to being somewhat hesitant to read this , because I’m an old school Disney fan and too many alternative universes gets confusing, plus I love the original versions of the characters, but the author convinced me as I have read and own several of her Star Wars books and short stories and found them fun and engaging. I was delighted to find a magical but fully acceptable explanation for the change in the storyline of these Disney legends and also that they are all written in character, adapting with the progress of the story and a fluid and pleasant way where they grow but, like their magnificent new armor and powers gifted to them my the stellar magic, also stay very true to themselves. It seems fitting that Mickey and Snow White should be the first to meet in this book and the other characters, some who are already guardians, and have met Mickey, are brought in to help Snow White save her world. While, as the first Disney Princess, I enjoyed that she quickly acclimated to being a warrior in her own right, she always maintains her sweet kindness and humble nature. Likewise, it’s greatly fun to see a team made up of Stitch, Tiana, Rapunzel, Sulley, and Hades (my favorite Disney villain, other than Negaduck and Scar). Work together and interact, something that makes the Disney games so much fun. There is a great deal of dark magic to battle and action but they band together and rush forward to meet it, well complimenting each other’s skills and gently adjusting for each others flaws in ways that are surprising but vastly fulfilling. As Snow White’s home in the forrest becomes ever more overtaken with all manner of magically mutated menaces and goons, our lovable troop of heroes tarries forth into the fray with honest hearts and quickly becomes the strongest of comrades. The banter is witty, the descriptions are lush and I can’t wait for the story to continue. I would recommend this to any and all Disney fans looking to up the excitement in their fairytales.

Thank you to Disney Publishing Worldwide and NetGalley for the e-ARC!

I loved this book and am hoping there will be another one after this. I really liked how Snow White was in this book, and the way she learned how to fight. I also enjoyed the teamwork between all of the characters and the hints of other Disney characters that we didn’t see but got mention of. I also liked Stitch’s presence in the book, he was funny. Overall this was a fun adventure and great tie in to the game and I hope the author writes more!

Although this is clearly a media tie-in, I can see it appealing to my students who really love Disney novels and video games.

I got to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to Netgalley.

Another reviewer mentioned that reading this felt like a video game, and I very much agree. In a multiverse full of Disney characters we know there are two mirrors: one has powers of good, and one is fractured and evil. Snow White comes home one day to find evil versions of her dwarf friends in their beds, and her real friends missing. She fights off the evil versions, and ends up starting on a quest to save the world she knows. Eventually, she teams up with The Guardians (a collection of different Disney characters) and they set off to work together to save the day.
I liked seeing different versions of characters that I know (super glad to see Stitch!). The story was a bit anemic, and Snow White was slightly 1 dimensional. I think younger readers will enjoy the book though, and it was an easy and quick read.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for letting me review this book. This book had loads of action and adventure. I like that there are various Disney characters throughout this book. It reminded me of the “Kingdom Hearts” video game series.

As I was reading this, I kept saying to myself- this feels like a video game.
Then I found out it is. It is a mobile app.
It is an interesting premise with lots of Disney and Pixar characters. If you're a big Disney fan, you'll likely enjoy this. It's an adventure with unlikely pairings. Tiana is making potions, Stitch is trapping enemies, Snow White has a massive pickaxe, and Hades is....hanging around.
I found the story rushed, without much depth or development. But, it was a quick read.

Thanks to Netgalley and Disney for an early copy for review.
