Pros: I think readers who love Sally Hepworth and/or domestic suspense novels will enjoy this book. Although the book got off to a bit of a slow start for me, it picked up at 20% in, and there were fun surprises and twists throughout. The short chapters made this a fast read. I read it on Kindle and listened to it on audio and enjoyed it in both formats.

Cons: I think I’ve read too many domestic suspense novels. At first they felt fresh and fun, and now they all blend together for me—multiple timelines, multiple narrators, etc. I was also disappointed to guess one of the big twists early in the book.

Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the opportunity to listen to this book.

The Soulmate was an interesting read that was from both Pippa and Amanda's perspective, even in Amanda's death. At first I was worried this would be a supernatural story, but quickly realized that Amanda's POV was crucial to understanding the whole story. It went back and forth between " then " and "now" allowing us to understand the events leading up.

Pippa, her husband Gabe and their two children live near a popular cliff where people go to commit suicide. Gabe has always been able to talk the jumpers out of their decision until Amanda comes one evening. The only problem is Gabe has a connection to Amanda... Which requires an investigation into Gabe's life. This novel is full of secrets, addictions, love and suspense.

I switched back and forth between audio and the ebook copy, and really enjoyed the narration in this book. One of my favorites so far.

I can honestly say I did not see the ending coming. While this book started out slow for me, I quickly devoured it once I really sat down and became invested. Make sure to add this to your TBR!

This book was amazing, beautifully written and heartbreaking. The whole way through, little surprises kept creeping up that made me keep listening faster and faster in order to see what was coming.
The ending was beautiful, and sad, yet satisfying. There were no gory twists but has just the right amount of revelations that kept me intrigued. In my opinion this book is about true, pure love. It really is a love story in the end, just not the kind of love story that you expect. The end did shock me but in a great way. Thank you NetGalley for this ARC audio, this book was exactly what I needed!!

Thank you so much Netgalley for the gifted ARC of this one!
I wanted so badly to love this one but I found it just okay.
Overall the story was interesting. Something I haven’t read before in a thriller but the middle seemed to drag.
I liked how the story went back and forth between past and present and back and forth between Pippa and Amanda.
I liked Amanda’s character the most. She seems to be the only one who had a good head on her shoulders.
I wanted to smack some sense into Pippa for dealing with Gabe.
I also didn’t really care for the ending. I was waiting for that “wow” factor but never got it.
Overall this book was just okay for me.

I love sally hepworth!!! This wasn’t my favorite of hers but it was a decent. The short chapters kept me wanting to read more. Some of the twists I guess, some I didn’t.

Thank you Netgalley for eARC in exchange for an honest review!

Hepworth knows how to weave a tale that keeps you guessing until the end.

This has been such a highly anticipated read for me and I enjoyed it so much. The audio was perfection!

I enjoy the way Hepworth present these characters to you. I enjoyed the twists and turns and the absolute humanity. They were all flawed and real, doing not so good things for a good reasons. The intertwining of these two very different families, discovering the ways in which they were connected, and ultimately, the secrets they are each keeping, all against the backdrop of this noteworthy cliff side property, was just fantastic.

Sally Hepworth described her upcoming release, THE SOULMATE, as a “peculiar murderous love story” and she certainly delivered on that front. The story follows Gabe & Pippa, a married couple who live near a steep ocean overlook in Australia. While the location is dreamy, the ominous cliffs are a notorious spot for people looking to end their life.

On a tranquil evening at their beach cottage Gabe attempts to rescue a potential jumper on the cliffside. Pippa watches from inside as a horrifying scene unfolds: did Gabe have a hand in the woman’s death?

In true Sally Hepworth fashion, the chapters were compulsively readable and the characters had many layers to them. I loved the way she explored marriage and how well we know our spouse. In addition to the plentiful twists, the mental health representation was thoughtful and not glossed over.

The audiobook narrated by Barrie Kreinik and Jessica Douglas-Henry was so well done. The dual narrators really brought the tension in the story to life. The Australian accents were really fun to listen to as well!

I binged this page-turner poolside on vacation and it was exactly what I was in the mood for. Pick up THE SOULMATE if you enjoy coastal settings, dangerous cliffs and propulsive cliff hangers.

3.5 stars I absolutely love Sally Hepworth as an author. Her incorporation of autism, ADHD, and mental health matters into her books continues to be some of the best. That said, The Soulmate was not my favorite by her.

What I Liked
-ADHD/mental health rep
-Multiple POVs
-Exploration of marriage and fidelity

What I Didn't Like
-Didn't feel invested in characters
-Too many twists
-Somewhat underwhelming ending

The audiobook was enjoyable!
