Gesela lives alone in her cursed village, Elk. She lost her entire family and everyone in the village has turned their backs on her. When the village’s well dries up, Gesela is chosen to break the curse. In order to break the curse, she must kill the toad that is living at the bottom of the well. She soon discovers the toad is actually an Elven prince when five of his brothers show up for revenge. They exile Gesela to their seventh brother’s house for seven years. However, the seventh brother gives her a choice - she can stay with him for seven years or she can try to guess his name within seven days and he’ll let her go.

I love fairytale retellings and Beauty and the Beast was always my favorite so I was excited when Mountain Made of Glass was announced! I purchased the ebook when it came out and immediately started reading it. Then I received a notification that my ARC request was approved!

This book was such a fun, quick read! Gesela and Casamir were both stubborn and prideful but that made it so much sweeter when they started falling for each other. I really liked the second half of the book and seeing Casamir evolve from a self-centered prince to actually caring about Gesela. Neither of them had a great life before meeting so I loved seeing them get their happily ever after.

Each of the brothers are getting their own novellas so I'm excited to see which brother is next!!

If you enjoy short fairytale retellings, I definitely recommend!

Thanks NetGalley and Bloom Books for the ARC!

I enjoyed this for what it was - a short, sweet, and spicy fairytale retelling. It takes place over the span of a week, so there are obviously things that could have been developed more and it’s definitely insta-lovey, but it makes sense as a fairytale. I enjoyed Gesela and Casamir as characters and their relationship ended up being really sweet. And of course Scarlett is great at writing the spicy scenes. I also liked how it portrayed the darker side of the fae and was a little morbid at times. Overall this was a quick and enjoyable read that I was able to finish in a couple hours.

Thank you to Sourcebooks Bloom and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I have yet to read a book by Scarlett St. Clair that I have not enjoyed. She has definitely become a must read author for me and I was beyond excited to get a copy of this one! It is on the shorter side which I know some people haven't liked but I felt it was the right length for this story. I love fairytale retellings and this one had a mixture of everything. Quick fun and spicy read that I would recommend! I want to thank NetGalley and SOURCEBOOKS Bloom Books for the arc in exchange for an honest review!

This was the first time I tried out a book by this author and i must say it was not what I was expecting. It's a short novel inspired by fairy tales and i was expecting it to be a fantasy romance but it was much dark and explicit than i thought it would be. It wasn't my cup of tea but I would recommend it to anyone who likes their fantasy romance on the spicier side

Fae. Retellings. Enemies to Lovers.

SIGN ME THE HELL UP!

I saw this book at the beginning of the new year and the premise drew me in like a moth to the flame. I mean, how could it not? Any sort of books containing fae and spicy are the kinda books I would run to my local bookseller for. This one was different. I actually went out for this book and came back happy with it. I locked myself away in the nearest corner, threatened the family if they bothered me, and cracked open my copy.

This book is a bit of a short read. I was able to gobble it in a few short hours and came out of it immersed in a world of Grimm fairytales. I loved this one. Gisele is our heroine and she is not your run-of-the-mill damsel in distress. She lives in the town of Elk. A town that has been cursed and any time a townsperson has managed to break a curse there are always consequences. This time Gisele becomes the next sacrifice. But as one curse is settled there is always another in the wings and Gisele's actions set off another curse. She has been whisked away from the town and dropped into a castle with a beast of a fae male.

Casmamir is the sixth of seven fae brothers. When Gisele lands in his lap, he gives her a choice: learn my real name or face six years as his prisoner. As Gisele sets out on this quest, she finds herself drawn to Casamir and he to her. Time begins to tick for Gisele to find Casamir's real name but she never expected to fall in love with him.

So, this is my first book by Scarlett and I have to admit I am glad I dipped my toes into her books. I love the characters, the fairytale world-building, and the storyline. Each one is unique and sets itself apart from other fairytale retellings. This is a mix of fairytales all wrapped up nicely into a short story and it really works. It is not drawn out, romance is slow burned, and there are no fillers. This story stays on track and keeps you glued to your seat until the end of the story and this is what makes me love stories like this. I liked that even though the story was just a nice short novella, the romance was slow and built up. We need more romance like that.

Now that I have had my taste of Scarlett's books, I NEED ALL OF THEM NOW! No, seriously I do. And I am excited to know there will be a second book to this series.

Thank you to the author and SOURCEBOOKS Bloom Books! I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Well, this was a really entertaining read. It's a novella, only around 150 pages, so it gets into the story pretty fast (also, it's like extreme insta-lust, so). I usually don't like insta-lust stories, but this one was actually good, like I could really believe the intense hate and passion 😂 and well, apart from that, the side characters (esp MMC's "friends") were really good, they contributed so much to the story - it made the reading experience pretty complete. I was definitely laughing at some of the exchanges between the mirror, the brownie and the MMC. And the scene where the crow teaches him how to hug her when she's crying? I could definitely imagine the crow rolling his eyes, it was hilarious

--- ty to the author, the publisher and Netgalley for an advanced copy!

2.5 Stars Mountains Made of Glass is a Beauty and the Beast retelling, with a touch of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves thrown in as well. Gesela's village of Elk has always been cursed, one after another, and each villager takes their turn bearing the brunt of a broken curse, often with devastating and fatal consequences. When Gesela kills a toad who was actually one of seven cursed elven princes, his brothers punish her by making her the prisoner of their exiled seventh brother, Casamir. Casamir and Gesela make a bargain, if she learns and speaks his true name in seven days, she will be free to leave. Little does Gesela know that Casamir is cursed so that if his true name is not spoken by his one true love, he will forget his true self and cease to exist. Can he get Gesela to fall in love with him in seven days and can she learn his true name before he forgets?

For a fantasy novel, this was relatively short at just over 200 pages. The story was a quick read and moved at a fast pace, which I appreciated. Both Casamir and Gesela were sort of anti-heroes; neither was particularly likeable, but I still was cheering them on to break the curse. Not a bad romantasy book, but not my fave either.

Spicy, quick read. I enjoyed it, but I was slightly disappointed with the ending. After all of the slow-burn, enemies-to-lovers angst, I felt myself longing for more of the "lovers' part. I just ends as soon as she figures out his name. We don't get to see them together and in love. I wanted to reach into the book and choke her for not figuring out his name sooner. Note, I am embarrassingly bad at riddles. I have never solved one in my life, not even the one in ACOTAR that everyone says is the easiest thing ever. Never. I did solve this one though. I think ole gal was so lust addled that she couldn't think of anything important, so I'll let it slide. Overall, its a good choice for when you want some fast fairy smut. I think I will look into this author's other books since I enjoyed this one so well. Thanks for the opportunity to read this one!

I received this book from NetGalley in return for my honest opinion.

I enjoyed this book a lot. It is really short, and I have to admit that I found the story to be told too fast. I felt like I was missing whole parts of the plot that should have been there. The book takes place over the span of 7 days, but it felt more like two or three days. There is minimal world building, but I enjoyed the characters and the mystery behind Casamir’s name.

The story also had a lot of references from Beauty and the Beats. But this was basically B&tB but with spice.

Despite what I said above, I enjoyed it and I finished the book within two days.

I was not coming back for air once I jumped into this story until I finished. I was invested as soon as I started the book and dropped everything else I was reading.

This world is hauntingly beautiful, dark and gothic. The mythical creatures, the detail of the mountains and forest are both enchanting and morbid.

I have a new appreciation for grimm retellings and more love for Scarlett St Clair. I absolutely loved both our main characters and how they fed off each other.

I could have read another 100+ pages of this, but I have no complaints on pace - just wanted more of Casamir to be completely honest.

I loved the mirror and his commentary - I hope to see more in the next 6 books. I absolutely loved all the different characters and the roles they played.

As far as spice and dynamic, I think their chemistry has been my favourite of Scarlett’s. Which is very hard for me to admit because I love ALL of her couples and I’m a huge Hades fan.

Anyways, I’m sad it’s over. I’ll be back for all 6 of the other elven brothers.

Thank you to the publisher for allowing me to read this eARC.

I normally enjoy fairytale retellings but this wasn't for me. It was so short, there wasn't anything substantial and the details were definitely lacking. It had so much potential, if only it had been longer.

"I need her to love me, but I had waited nearly ten years for someone to come along with enough reason to learn my true name. This creature, she wished to be free, and if she wished hard enough, she might just set me free too."

I don't even know how to handle the utter joy this has brought me. I'm sitting here completely giddy from how much I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was just wonderfully thought out and executed so perfectly. Nothing makes sense when it comes to fairytales. Nothing needs to be explained, we just go with it, and I think it's the complete ease in which they somehow make sense despite the lack of explanation that allows readers to enjoy them. I am in love with the way Scarlett St. Clair pulled this together. She explains this all in her Author's note. Which is a must read in my opinion because it makes the story so much better by telling us just how much thought she put into this retelling of a multitude of fairytales. Its short, but I still felt entirely satisfied at the end.

I recommend going in blind, don't even read the blurb. I read this mainly due to the author and I am so glad I skipped the blurb because it made it so much more enjoyable. If you must I'll include a bit below, but I suggest the skip.

SUMMARY - SKIP IF YOU DARE

In short, the book is about a girl named Gesela who lives in a town called Elk which is riddled with curses. The town essentially sacrifices people in different ways to break these curses. Gesela is ostracized for certain reasons and when it's time to break a new curse, it's no surprise to her that she's next in line. While breaking the curse she ends up killing one of the seven elven princes. As retribution for their brother's death, Gesela is sent to the seventh brother to live as his prisoner. The seventh brother, Casamir, bargains with Gesela. If she can guess his name in seven days, he will set her free. Well, of course there is a catch, there's always catch.

END SUMMARY

Now this story isn't necessarily slow burn, I'll tell you that much, but I loved that. Sometimes you want a short story that is genuinely good even if it's fast pace. It's not exactly insta-love but we're talking about a story that spans 7 days. I thoroughly enjoyed every character. Gesela is not some damsel in distress, I mean she legit carries an axe. Casamir is a jerk, but he is a dark elven prince, what can we expect and it's also something that makes you love him. The banter between the two made me smile and Casamir trying to navigate this new territory is the greatest part of this book. His pet name/nickname for Gisela, vicious creature (or sometimes sweet creature-depends on how he feels at the moment). Swoon.

"You are poison, sweet creature. I want you in my blood."

I don't want to give too much away but some of the things said toward the end. I actually almost shed a tear it was so goddamn sweet. If you get to the part where the mirror was choking up (iykyk) that was most likely the part that had me in a chokehold. Just everything about this I thoroughly enjoyed, and I recommend it if your inner adult child is looking for a dark twisted mosh posh of fairytales to light your soul on fire.

Also, THE ARTWORK. It was beautiful. I was extremely impressed with all the little details and illustrations that made up this book. Will I be buying a hardcopy as soon as I can? 1000% YES. Scarlett St. Clair confirms in her authors note that she will be writing a book for each of the elven brothers! I am feral for the next one and completely support her setting aside all other projects to finish this one. Just kidding. . . but if she's not opposed, I'm on board.

Just... okay. Always intrigued by fairytale retellings, the premise of this sounded great, but it is just way too short to be of any great substance. There's not enough time to develop any characters (even the main ones), their relationship (there's more chemistry between me and university discussion posts), or any worldbuilding/eventful plot. At least the fae/mythical creatures were intriguing, and the fairytale elements were implemented well. If you're looking for a short and spicy dark fairytale retelling, this might be up your alley.

Many thanks to the publishers for providing this ARC!

Gesela has to break a curse for her village by kiling a toad that turns out to be an elven prince. The prince's brothers banish Gesela with their seventh brother who asked Gesela to guess his true name and say it with love in to order for both of them to be freed.

Another sexy and steamy read. This is a twisted fairy tale with a lot of dark themes. Love the twists and surprises in the plot. I love the witty and dark humor too. Both of the main characters are terrific. I love their chemistry especially. A very fun read.

Thanks to the publisher for the arc.

This book was an interesting spin on a mix of fairy tale retellings. Granted, I’m not sure it even really needed to be marketed that way as it’s such a mix it kind of is it’s own story?

This book was relatively quick and I feel like it might’ve been a little fast paced for how it’s sold as a book. There’s a lot of beginning descriptors, but the book doesn’t linger on much. It’s kind of like watching the Disney movie versus knowing the stories.

Still a good book though!

I really wanted to love this but the pacing was really off for me. The concept was interesting but I feel like it needed to be longer to really flesh out all the details.

Rating: 5/5
Spice: 3/5

I knew I wanted to read this when I first saw it being posted about on Instagram by the author. This book was such a magnificent read. It was the first work I’ve ever read by Scarlett St. Clair and I am obsessed. The characters were finely written and the world building was amazing for it being a shorter read. And honestly, if you’re not into spice, then you could skip those scenes and not miss out on the storyline.

I’m thoroughly looking forward to reading more from Scarlett St. Clair

Scarlett has done it again. She enchanted me with a twisted tale that ended in love. It was hot and steamy and I found myself trying to guess what our fae mans name was as well, without success.
