RC REVIEW FROM NETGALLEY

Spice rating - 🌶️🌶️

This is a slow burn, enemies to lovers novel with some spice, action and sexy firefighters.

When I read the synopsis, I was immediately intrigued - a firefighter, with powers, wrongly convicted of murder kidnaps a doctor and they fall in love? What could go wrong?

Overall, I enjoyed this book. If I don’t like a book, I usually just give up and don’t finish it. I went through this one pretty fast. I’m also a sucker for enemies to lovers books.

The first half of the book seemed to drag on at times. While I understand Teague was on the run, it seemed repetitive at times especially with Taz’s character. He was a gross, perverted psychopath. Let’s just say I wasn’t sad when he died.

Even if it was slow at times though, it still held my attention and I was rooting for the main character Teague, who ultimately got a shitty hand in life and just wanted his daughter back.

It was easy to like him. He was protective, rough around the edges and caring. I found it easy to feel sympathy for him.

Also…the author did a good job at telling the readers just how sexy this man is. I was hooked from the moment he was on the page.

Teagues power comes up a lot, and we really get to see him grow and harness this power. But I wish we learned more about his backstory - what chemicals caused this in him? What did the government do to him and Luke when they experimented? I think we need more background. But maybe that’s something she’s saving for the other books?

I didn’t mind Alyssa, but at times I kind of just found her annoying. But that annoying personality is what kept her alive, and I think the author portrayed Alyssa’s strength and compassion very well.

I liked the secondary characters like Mitch and Luke, I found Mitch especially fun. Mitch was Alyssa’s twin brother. He turned out to be a badass. I’d read a book just about him.

Overall, I thought the book was good and if you’re looking for a quick, fun and sexy read I’d say give it a go.

4 stars rounded up from 3.75.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. The story was intriguing and I found myself wanting to know more. Some parts were predictable, but there were a couple of details I didn't see coming, and that made this a quick enjoyable read.

I liked the MMC from the start. The author did a good job setting him up as a trustworthy guy, even though the circumstances should have made this not so.

There were a couple of things that I didn't like, specifically some mentions of characters' race that either came across as stereotypical or really unnecessary to the story. It seemed like these were added as an afterthought or simply left underdeveloped.

The best part of the book was actually the blurb from the next in the series. Without that, I probably wouldn't have considered reading the second book anytime soon.

I couldn't figure out if this was a romance or a creepy paranormal thingy. I don't fully understand the concept that this book was supposed to cover.

Teague has been convicted of a murder he didn’t commit and then he kidnaps the wrong woman, Alyssa. She may have not been the woman he wanted to kidnapped but she is the woman he needs. Will she be able to help him discover the truth about his powers and will he be able to keep them both safe? Fast-paced paranormal read with loads of drama, suspense and action. Great characters and steamy chemistry. I liked it.

4.5 stars. Great new series starter. An interesting premise about a group of firefighters who go through some pretty cool changes after responding to a fire. I’m looking forward to more stories from the rest of them. This book though with Teague and Alyssa is so good. They are both very deep and interesting characters and very nicely matched. The kind of people you want to get to know more about which we do as we read. They meet in quite a strange way and you’re not sure at first how this will all play out. Made the story all the better for it though. I enjoyed many of the other characters as well. Especially Luke and Mitch and hope to get more of them in future books. Kat is a nice bright light in this sometimes gray story- I don’t want to say dark because it isn’t dark, but it is also not a bright and cheery ray of sunshine kind of story - at least not for most of it. The storyline is intriguing and had a way of drawing me right in. I enjoyed this book very much!

*arc review * if you ever watched prison break and liked it? If so.. you like this book! I personally think the whole idea is kind of genius. Firefighters + unknown paranormal activities + running from corrupt government. Teague and Alyssa had great chemistry. I love how she was immediately snarky with him and didn’t hold back her opinions. Teagues’ abilities were unique and quite helpful given the circumstances. For me, I gave this 3.5 stars. The first 50% of the book, I could not put it down. Towards the middle/end I felt a little bit like okayyyy are we going to get some answers (we eventually do). I didn’t how quickly the two characters ended up decided how to handle things in the end. And my biggest complaint is that even though Alyssa was trying to help him, it was frustrating how even near the of the story he was still trying to carry out his own personal plan. But regardless I loved the concept, good story telling , and I can’t wait to see how the rest of the series plays out!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me an ARC in exchange for my honest review! This book was an action packed crazy ride! The book immediately gets into the action within the first chapter. Alyssa Foster is a doctor competing for a position at the hospital she works at, when she is kidnapped by Teague Creek and another inmate. It’s a case of mistaken identity as Teague meant to take a completely different woman. There is a lot of violence so please check all tigger warnings before reading! Alyssa is everything you could want for a heroine. She’s courageous, intelligent, and resilient. She endures a lot during her first couple of hours with Teague. Teague is kinda rough around the edges with some trust issues. His plan to kidnap his ex brother in laws girlfriend goes completely awry. Granted you might run into some problems with a plan like that, but it seemed like everything went wrong. Teague’s powers, from the chemical fire years ago, are intriguing. His internal temperature gets higher, the more emotional he is. He can burn people, but also heal them. He heals Alyssa multiple times. I wish that we were able to get more information about the fire that happened years ago. Who was behind it? Why was only Teague framed and set up? It seems like everyone else from his team lives regular lives. If they have powers, would they have been quarantined and studied?? Just a few unanswered questions, but overall an enjoyable, fast paced read!

Thank you to NetGalley and Skye Jordan for allowing me to read an ARC of their book in return for feedback and a review. All opinions below are mine.

This is my first book from Skye Jordan and it was a rousing success!!! This book was urban fantasy/romance in the best of ways and all the various nuances of the plot really made this romance novel great.

If I were to criticize anything about this book, I would say that the beginning portion went on a bit too long. Taz was in the book too much for me to understand why he was there other than to provide a foil to Teague. I think it would've worked out better if that part of the book was a little shorter, making what Teague had to say to Alyssa less extreme and we would've been more endeared to him sooner, as opposed to having to wait.

The smut was pretty well-written. There was the right amount of spice for this book and I like how the scenes always came about. Sure, there were some inopportune times, but it made sense with the way the author wrote them. I also liked the chemistry between Alyssa and Teague, you could tell right from the beginning that they were attracted to each other, but it was only after their relationship progressed that you knew that they had a deep affection.

With the addition of the mystery and finding out what actually happened to the fire crew? The book had me on the edge of my seat and once I kept reading I couldn't put it down. I actually finished it within a day I was so invested in the story. What was going to happen to Teague's daughter? What actually happened to give Teague and his crew their powers? I liked how we slowly found everything out and though some things were foreshadowed, it didn't make the reveals any less surprising or intriguing.

This author excels at not only writing mystery/thriller romances but with the addition of supernatural abilities, it just adds another layer to this book. I really enjoyed it and I can't wait to continue on with the series. Happy Reading!!

I am not going to review this title publically. I read 76 pages and found too many issues that made me DNF this title. In the first chapter, the MFC is choked to the point of passing out, burned, throat cut with scissors, punched in the face, and kidnapped. While I read a lot of paranormal romance, this was too much for me.

I could not put this down! Wrongful imprisonment and a desperation to be in his child's life leads Teague Creek to plan and execute his escape. Things don't go as planned when he kidnaps Dr Alyssa Foster in a case of mistaken identity. Sparks fly and chaos ensues in this journey to exonerate this man and they both learn that love can happen in unexpected circumstances.

Hot hot hot! Loved this book! When Alyssa is taken during a convicts escape plan, little does she know that more is inplay then she knows. The worst being she’s the wrong woman! Teague knows of only one way to get his daughter back, that’s in a trade

I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own

My thanks to Net Galley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

The shirtless man on the book cover belies the depth and intricacies of this story. I was not expecting such a detailed plot line, but you're thrown into the action from the get go with this one. I enjoyed the dual POV which definitely helped draw you in and relate to both characters, and I appreciate the fact that Alyssa was neither a cowering nor overly arrogant. I do like a female character with intelligence and common sense! Teague's story was slowly revealed though the book and the overarching plot line of the secretive cover up leaves the door wide open for more action to come in the rest of the series.

This is my first book to read by Skye Jordan and I really enjoyed her style. The sparks between Alyssa and Teague were off the chain. From kidnapping to running for their lives and solving the mystery of Texan’s false imprisonment, kept me glued yo each page. The story was riveting!! I could barely put this book down. I am totally looking forward to her next book about Luke and Keira! Can’t wait to read the whole Pheonix Rising series!

I really really wanted to love this. It's different than my usual fare (which is something I was craving). The premise sounds SO good (like X-men, but romance-y) and honestly, I was really pulled in for the first couple of chapters. It starts off really strong.

But then, it sort of stalled out for me. I felt like a lot of things were happening, but nothing was really moving the plot forward. I also really didn't feel chemistry between Alyssa and Teague, or maybe it's that I couldn't get out of my own head during the parts where I was supposed to feel their chemistry. I think I needed a bit more build-up of tension between them. I needed them to not be distracted by their physical attraction to each other while everything around them was falling apart. I wanted more tension - both in the thriller and in the romance.

Ultimately, I made it halfway through before deciding I really didn't feel invested enough to push through. I'm disappointed because I think there is such a solid premise here, but the way it played out didn't work for me.

I sincerely appreciate the opportunity to read and review. Unfortunately, this one was a miss for me.

Great start to a new series but no problem reading it as a stand alone. Strong female lead character but a hot romance and interesting paranormal characteristics. Feel there is a lot more to come! Can't wait.

Great start to new series. It grabbed me from the first page. Filled with action, drama, bad guys, enemies to lovers. Here we meet Teague and Alyssa. Teague, a prisoner with a murder conviction, was brought to the hospital where Alyssa works as a doctor, to be treated for an unusually high fever. He escapes his guards and takes Alyssa hostage, believing her to be someone else. Their journey is action packed and filled with surprising twists and turns. You will not regret picking this one up and will not want to stop until done. The backstory is about firefighters injured in a chemical fire that leaves them with unusual capabilities. I cannot wait to read the next installment in this series.

Thank you NetGalley, Skye Jordan and Author Collective 20 for the ARC of this book which I voluntarily read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Publication date: 3/1/2023

Conspiracy, cover-ups, psychotics, assassins, some extra super-human powers, and plenty of action round out this fast moving yet complex thriller that intertwines a wide cast of characters and subplots and keeps everything moving - you may be tempted to flip to the end just to lower the tension, but don't do that ;)

Ohhhh Skye, you have a good one here. And I’m so glad it’s only the 1st in a series. Yesss. 😍 please check your trigger warnings before reading as there is some violence of different types.
Some actions worked with the book and some we could have gone without. (Really the only negative part of this book, tbh)

I don’t know that I’ve heard the nickname Creek before and I loved it. Same with the plot, loved the interesting paranormal take on this one.

This one will keep you on the edge of your seat for sure, and you really won’t want to put it down.

Thank you to NetGalley and Skye Jordan for this ARC!!! Make sure you snag this one on March 1st!
