Anne Perry weaves an engrossing tale of power, money, rape and murder. Her books are always enjoyable for the lover of mystery. I also love to see her platform. Her setting in Victorian England but the women's issues she brings to the forefront are still viable today. Rape may be less the dishonour for the woman raped today but still there are injustices in the system and a woman has to defend herself against the stigma that she asked for it in some way. I have appreciated the subtle ways she weaves these issues into her stories that I have read in the past touching on abortion, women's rights to inherit and their lower status in the eyes of men of power.
