This wasn't it. When a guy is as much of a jerk as our MMC is in this book, I need some serious groveling on his part, and for our FMC to accept no less than the appropriate amount of groveling that is deserved.

This was not my most favorite witchy romance. I liked other Sophie Morgan books, but something about this one did not fully grab my attention. I'll try reading this one again at a later date - maybe I just wasn't in the mood for it at the time.

This witchy romance is packed full of tropes that we all love! Second chance romance, fake dating, opposites attract; grumpy-sunshine and more! There’s everything you could ever want!

Emma, a witch who is getting older, has always had the reputation in the community and her family of being a witch with little powers. So when she younger, her mother set up a match that would change her fortune with Bastian, a local warlock. Yet, when the time came for them to wed, Bastian fled and broke Emma's heart. Now, years later, Bastian has come back to town and has reentered his interest in marrying Emma. But Emma has moved on, literally, from their hometown in New Orleans to Chicago, where she owns a bar. Bastian, realizing he must follow tradition in order to earn Emma's trust again, he proposes he moves in with her in Chicago. All of Emma's friends are telling her to be careful, to not lose her heart to Bastian again, but Emma is struggling to not see the man she fell in love when he's right in front of her.

Overall, I do really like how this turned out. I did end up liking Bastian as a character a lot more than i did Emma. Emma was trying to be this butterfly who had gotten out of the cocoon, but her character needed more development. I did like the trope of tattoos appearing on their body as they got more and more involved, that was nifty.

Thanks for the ARC!

What's with these very strange but also basic names like the last name Bluewater? I find it a little odd in most novels and it kind of throws off the flow of this one. Besides for that the book was so much fun to read!

Finally, a good freaking book! I’ve been on a bit of a dry spell as I slog determinedly through my TBR, and I was so genuinely pleased to find a book that was fun to read! There were some frustrating aspects (bad communication is understandable in YA, but as a basis of conflict for an adult romance? Miss me with that), but this had some real emotional teeth. I think it would be reasonable to dislike Emma for passivity but I, ultimately, found that I didn’t mind that so much. I *DID* think everything about the contract was deeply stupid though.

A fun witchy romance with all the fall vibes. A cute reunited love affair that doesn't seem it should or could work. Their were family dynamics and friend dynamic and of course love dynamics all at play in this fun little book. Witches can be cruel! Thanks to publisher for review copy

A deeply emotional contemporary love story that has the feel of a historical thanks to its smart use of society politics and arranged marriage tropes. Plus, the magic is truly enchanting!

This was a fun book, but wasn't really for me. These genres can be a bit predictable and the first few chapters hinted at that. There was a lot of potential but (for me) didnt hit the mark. However I did buy this as a gift and it went over well.

This is a romantic comedy title with a witchy twist. For those that want a light read, this would be a perfect option.

I am a lover of all things witchy, especially witchy romances! Such a cozy, quick read. It was great to see Emma and Bastain's growth from childhood to now. It was really fun, great start to the series.

Super-duper cute. 3.5 stars.

Honestly I was expecting something far cheesier than what this ended up being, it was really refreshing. The plot is pretty unique and the characters are well developed. It leans hard into the miscommunication trope, which is where it looses points with me personally. I enjoyed it though and absolutely flew through it. In terms of witchy romcoms in particular, this is definitely one I’d recommend

I had a hard time with this one. I will start by saying I marked it as "yes" I will handsell because I will. The writing was consistent and some people will like this one but it was just not for me. I didn't like these tropes, I didn't like the wallflower main character, I didn't like the many miscommunications, (I know miscommunications are PART of the romcom genre but I mean, come on.. he HAS to come back and marry her or his MOM DIES?) So I will recommend this one but it was not my favorite.

This was such a fun read. Easy to fall in love with characters, and I found myself invested right from the jump. Super enjoyable.

Kind of a slow start didn't really get me hooked in but it's good for people who enjoy that level of slow burn more for the plot than any romance

Although I enjoyed a lot about this book, it felt like there was something missing. The character felt younger than their ages (at times it sounded like YA). Bastian never really gives Emma the groveling I felt that was deserved - Emma forgave him way too easily. Otherwise, the writing was really good. I just could not connect with Emma or Bastian.

So this was a fast read. It was cozy, witchy with a bit of second chance romance. However it just didn't blow my nickers off.

The author created a fun romcom with a witchy vibe. It was a cute world and magical system. But its a simple read. Not a lot of investment into the characters. It was a great filler read to break up some of my heavier reads. So if your looking for a quick, fun and easy rom com with a witch then this would fit the bill. Its a tame one on the steam I would have loved a bit more but i'm a greedy reader what can I say ha ha.

Fast paced writing and I love a witchy romance. I'm not the biggest fan of the miscommunication wrench that romcoms love to use but I'll deal with it.

The Witch is Back is a complicated but interesting paranormal romantic comedy which I enjoyed immensely. It’s not your typical lighthearted fantasy, but has more depth and thought provoking moments than most. Emma and Bastain have great chemistry, but also a deep friendship from childhood, which makes their romance special. I also loved their friends and family, as they are quirky and fun. I’m glad this was a series starter and I can’t wait to read more.
