A quick read that keeps you pacing through, but that is where the positives end, I'm so sorry to say. The writing style was awkward, no showing all telling. No matter whose POV chapter you were in they regularly used the phrases "that's because..." and "that's why..." - would prefer a description of emotions or internal feeling to allow the reader to figure it out. I lost track of how many times a character "scoffed" or "cried." I couldn't figure out the motivations of any characters, who were all bland, even the kids. And the final "twist" only made the entire performance of Nicola hypocritical and annoying.

What a ride! The twists in this book made me almost breathless. The writing is perfectly paced. Multiple pov is always a favourite of mine, and it was executed brilliantly in The Holiday Home, and added another layer to an already fantastic plot. And I did not see that ending coming!

Daniel Hurst never disappoints with his fast paced, intriguing thrillers. This was yet another one that held my attention from the very first page and had me on the edge of my seat until the very end. I love that he always throws in an extra little twist at the end that pushes his books from 4 stars to 5 stars for me. This one was full of twists and turns and plenty of betrayal. I really wasn't sure where this was headed at first but once things started to unfold, I wasn't sure how it could end realistically. I was pleasantly surprised by the ending and delighted at how things unfolded in the end. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I have had a hard time writing this review. I really enjoyed The Doctor’s Wife by Daniel Hurst and I was looking forward to reading The Holiday Home. Unfortunately, this book didn’t live up to my expectations.
I didn’t care for any of the characters so I really didn’t care who might meet their demise The plot and some of the twists seemed very contrived and took away from the suspense for me. The actions the MCs take and their lack of logic pained me. The very end was the most interesting part but it seemed to be over too quickly.
I really wanted to love it but in the end I just liked it. I will emphatically recommend The Doctor’s Wife but would encourage first time readers of Daniel Hurst to not start with The Holiday Home.
I will be posting this review on Instagram, Goodreads and Amazon

“By the time the sun sets tomorrow, everything will be different. Forever.”

Nicola, with husband Ryan and daughter Emily, join Nicola’s long-time friend Kim, with husband Lewis and son, Cole, at their luxurious vacation home in Scotland. It looks like it will be a well-needed break from life. While Nicola and Kim are great friends, the husbands don’t exactly get along. To Ryan, Lewis flaunts all the finer things in life that he can afford, while Ryan’s family is just getting by.

When Nicola accidentally overhears a conversation she wasn’t supposed to hear, lies, secrets, betrayal and devastation turn their enjoyable weekend into a nightmare.

With short chapters that propel the next one forward, this was more of a domestic drama to me than domestic thriller. You can really visualize the setting of this holiday home, which was like a little vacation in my head. All in all this was a satisfying read.

Thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture, and Daniel Hurst for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Another winner for Hurst, this thriller keeps you on the edge of your seat wondering what will happen next and wanting but not able to stop the murder happening. Loved the images of the holiday home too and the scenery. Fast paced, read in one sitting, awesome.

I only discovered Daniel Hurst a month ago. And now I am trying to read everything that he has written. Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC! It did not disappoint. From the very first page, I am drawn into the characters. Then it’s twist after twist that I do not see coming. It keeps me on the edge of my seat! Highly recommend this one, can’t wait for the next!

Best book I've read in a long time. I still can't get past all of the twists and how some characters turned on others.

Oh my! This was a great read. I love books with multiple POVs. It was interesting to see how this played out and the twist at the end was great!

Firstly, any book involving Scotland immediately grabs my attention. I love it there.
This one didn’t disappoint. The author was very descriptive with the area. Which made it easy to be drawn into the story. The characters had unique personalities and were clearly, well thought through. The pace of the book was good with the author giving the same attention to the story itself as he’s given to everything else in the book.
Wonderful in its suspense, and with the tension building this book was amazing from start to finish.
I’d definitely recommend this book to everyone.
Thank you to the author, the publisher and Netgalley for the arc.

This was such a good read. Very atmospheric with the mountains of Scotland and the cold weather and the underlying tensions with the friends. This story just builds and builds throughout the book. I found I had to keep track with the change of characters at the start of each chapter as to who was telling their side of the story which was a little confusing at times. But, it was a very good story. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

Another gripping story from Daniel Hurst. So many twists and lies between two families, and the final twist right at the very end. I love how there was a little hint at the end of each chapter so I had to keep reading to see what that was all about. Highly recommended.
Many thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this brilliant ARC

Once again a brilliant book of suspense and intrigue. Two families go for a weekend away at a remote holiday cottage in Scotland where they should have a great time, but this is not to be. The chapters are headed as if the characters are speaking, I like that. So what occurs are lies and more lies. I love the little sentences at the end of the chapters in italics holding you in suspense until the next chapter. Another great read from Daniel Hurst

The amount of pain and betrayal in these pages is immeasurable, every time I thought I had figured out what was going on someone else confessed something or was overheard.

Two couples, each with a child of their own venture into Scotland to a vacation home for what is supposed to be a fun-filled weekend of friends catching up and relaxing away from the stresses of everyday life.

Luis and Kim have a life most people dream of, or so it seems, Nicola and Ryan have been working hard for every dollar and trying to just make ends meet, so when Kim invites Nicola to the cabin they've bought in the Scottish Highlands she jumps at the chance.

If only she'd said no, or left when her intuition first told her to so many lives could have stayed the way they were and no one would have known any different.

When the people you love most are the ones that betray you, that's the kind of pain you can't put into words, the kind of pain that slices you open, it's also the kind of pain that drives you to survive.

I couldn't put this one down once I started it, the twists and turns kept me glued to the pages and actually answered my questions in the end, that alone makes me a happy reader.

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for providing a copy of this ebook, I have voluntarily read and reviewed it and all thoughts and opinions are my own.

I liked this one but it’s not my fav. My fav Daniel Hurst book remains The Doctor’s Wife. It was just really so freaking good. So it set a pretty high bar.

This one, like The Doctor’s Wife just sucked me right in. He’s got twists & turns but they are easy to roll with and not overly complicated. I love when an author keeps you on your toes but doesn’t go completely off the rails because then everything gets all messy and not in a good way.

Daniel Hurst has mastered the art of the twist. When I’m reading his writing, it’s like a movie playing in my head…I actually forget that I’m reading because I’m so captivated by his writing.

Nicola was likable and you really feel for her in the beginning of the book. She is strong and speaks her mind…tactfully. The way she goes about addressing the betrayal of those closest to her was different than I see in most domestic thrillers. It was more realistic.

Then you have Ryan, Lewis and Kim. Can’t say I liked any of them very much. Ryan was an odd character, the way he talked about Nicola and then talked about their relationship irked me, it was contradictory at times. Hard passion relationships with any of these people.

The ending was good. Overall it was a solid read and a well-read audiobook. I definitely recommend checking this one out.

Another great story by this author. Books are all quite short which makes them a quick read for me. I liked the characters in this book and I really cared what happened to the children. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC copy. I look forward to Daniel's next book. Review was posted to Goodreads.

Nicola and her family get invited to go on holiday with her best friend Kim and her family. They've known each other for years. Their children have grown up together, but two of them are hiding a secret that one of them already knows and another is about to find out.

I cannot get enough of this author! Hurst writes another fantastic novel that will leave any reader desperate to find out what happens next.

Split between a few different characters, with alternating chapters this novel is fast-paced with a narrative you can't put down.

Every individual character has a voice that Hurst portrays realistically, which is just one reason this is great writing.

This is another great read by this author who is top of my go-to list!
