I really struggled with this.

I think it was the lack of Magic in the middle of the story, which just seemed to slow it down too much for me.

It was a reasonable story but just not totally for me.

The Rings of Dialisk is a great middle grade fantasy adventure. The main character Cole is given a ring that transports him to a new magical world where he is to save the realm. The ending is a cliffhanger so be ready to wait for the next book. 3.5 stars for me overall.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

really enjoyed the magical elements going on in this book. It had what I was hoping for in the description. The characters worked well with the magic elements and the world itself. Michael R. Willacy has a great writing style and I enjoyed what was going on. I hope this world continues and I'm glad I read this.

"Looking around he now wished he had paid more attention in Geography class, but even if he could have tolerated Mr Shuster’s monotonous daily drone, he doubted it would have been much use here. There were no landmarks, no signs, no clues… nothing."

This is a great young adult fantasy book. Cole goes from a rather monotonous life with no real attachments other than his annoying neighbor to a world with magic and crazy looking monsters that is looking to him to help save them all because of a ring that decide he was the one. There were a few chapter starts that took me a minute to figure out who we were following which is the main reason for four stars vs five, but it was overall a great story/plot. I loved Cole's growth through the story and the connections he was able to make. The end was not what I thought it would be and my mouth definitely dropped at the twists he threw in there! He definitely left the story open to another book and wanting to know what happened to one of the main characters-no spoilers!

I enjoyed reading this fantasy story. Michael R. Willacy, the author, has written a fantasy story with original characters and a setting that I immediately felt comfortable with. Cole, having been given rings in a chance encounter, is transported to a different realm. One of magic and creatures he has never encountered before. There he finds new friends and is drawn into trying to overcome a magic thief. This is a fantasy story for readers from middle school/ P6 upwards, that is good story with some peril but no yecch to worry about. This is only part one of the story and ends with a cliff hanger. But I’m sure if you read this book, like me, you will want to search out the next one when it becomes available. Thank you to Secret Rare, BookBuzz.net and NetGalley for the ARC.
