I read this to my daughter and she loved it! We both gave it a four star review. The characters are dynamic and I am huge fan of human/animal friendship and connection stories. The illustrations are beatutiful and it's an all around great read!

I thought that this book had an interesting plot. However, I did think that the drawings were a bit weird to me and that it could get confusing sometimes for readers. I didn't understand how some plot points moved from one to another.

First off -- the art in this graphic novel is stunning. Gorgeous. Beautiful. Secondly, the story is pretty good. But it is so upstaged by the art that I can remember the immersive illustrations vividly and struggle to remember what actually happens to Ember when he sails away to find a place he can feel at home. Filled with adventure and character growth, this is a solid recommendation for comic readers.

I really wanted to get to this one, as it seemed interesting. This was requested when I first found out about NetGalley and I had requested so many ARCs that I could not get to all of them before they were archived. If I can find this somewhere for a reasonable price, I will try to get it!

This is certainly an inventive plot. A little weird but in a good way. We end the book with nearly as many questions as we started with, so there is room for follow-up volumes. The story is well plotted and the characters have a little depth. The illustrations are strong and keeps the reader engaged.

Ember is only about the size of a teacup, but that doesn't stop him from wishing he could go to school and make real friends someday. Instead, a dodgeball accident sends him crashing into the ocean, where he meets Lua, a turtle who can take him someplace even better. But the Island of Lost Creatures isn't everything Ember was hoping for either, and if he doesn't find a way to make friends fast, he risks facing one of the most dangerous creatures he's ever seen all by himself.

Beautifully drawn and cleverly written, this story has heartwarming elements and great science facts. While there's certainly a magical element to this tale, some of the most unbelievable parts are based on real animal life. My curiosity is piqued, and I hope my students' will be too.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC. All opinions are my own.

Such a great fantasy adventure book kids will gravitate to. It was engaging and fun. I love when books are written in a way it can entertain all ages. This one achieves that.

So adorable! I loved this story and the cute cast of characters. Every page was a delight, and the plants and creatures were so creative and fun. I was cheering for Ember to make friends and feel at home. I think this was even better than Jason Pamment's other graphic novel, Treasure in the Lake.

This is a story about Ember; a tiny boy who just wants to fit in and make friends. He tries to make friends at the giant's school, but almost gets squished. He ends up meeting a sea turtle named Lua, who takes him across the ocean to an island with a school for tiny creatures. Once there, Ember faces the challenges of being the new kid and trying to fit in and make friends.

The illustrations are so adorable and the colors are perfect! I loved just looking at all the details and colors while reading. It will definitely be one I'll go back too, even if it is just to look at the pictures.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you netgalley and HarperCollins for an arc!

This was a cute story about a tiny boy who is trying to fit in with the world. He then discovers an island with a school for rare creatures. All of the characters are super cute in design.

The story is pretty basic and straightforward, something to be expected with a middle grade graphic novel that requires world building.

This story would be good for 3rd and 4th graders who aren't ready to read a full chapter book. I can easily see my students enjoying this one. Looking forward to seeing where the series goes from here.

The first thing that struck me was how beautiful the coloring was - like an island at sunset, with warm periwinkles and peaches and a host of other cozy colors. I also particularly enjoyed the inventiveness of how human trash was repurposed into other items for the tiny creatures (i.e. fishing line + fishing bob = a handy little satchel). I delight in miniature things, especially when they're made out of something that had an entirely different purpose originally.

The main storyline itself wasn't necessarily anything new (newcomer struggling to fit into an already established place), but the character designs were very fun and original, breathing fresh air into a common theme.

I loved the adventure and the story. Ember is a cute little human? the size of a regular cookie can, I suppose, and his relationship with the sea turtle Lua just makes me smile. Great way to tell a story about acceptance, struggle, and friendship. I will be getting this very cute, fantastic graphic novel for my library.

This was very interesting and heartwarming to read. The illustrations were SO FUN to look at and really brought the story to life for me. It felt like a lesson disguised in a clever way about life and acceptance and loving yourself. I think they did a fantastic job.

A cute and funny reading.
Full of wonder and suprises.
I was grown up in the sea-side city, and I wish I could read it when I'm a child.
Please give me more stories about Ember!

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of this title.

I personally related to this story because when I was young I always felt a bit weird and different and that made fitting in with others challenging. I also am always drawn to stories that showcase and embrace "found family" and Ember and the Island of Lost Creatures does that. I also truly enjoyed the art style, it's truly adorable and vibrant and definitely will appeal to children and of course adults alike.

4 stars!
