"Not everyone gets a lucky current... Some need a friend to show them the way."

A wonderful educational graphic novel. In this fantastical journey, a tiny child named Ember, who loves to draw and go to school finds his way to a special school. Ember appreciates knowledge, and learning new things. He is very tolerant and kind and is taken by a turtle to an island for his first day of school.

It's well written and very well illustrated with large panels, cinematographic sequences, diverse characters, great character, and world design.

Presents themes like bullying, the first day of school, found family, tolerance, kindness, environmental awareness, outsider, compromise, standing up for friends and self, friendship, and self-love.

Awesome fantasy adventure.

Thank you NetGalley and publisher for the opportunity to give my honest opinion.

Sometimes adventures and making new friends is hard! Ember’s adventures are fantastical, wild, and beautiful. Ember’s turtle friend Lua advises be kind, introduce yourself, and ask what their names are. Ember’s journal is build into this delightful graphic novel.

Ember is a tiny human who desperately wants to find his place in the world in this graphic novel by the author of The Treasure in the Lake. After a failed attempt to visit a school in the "giant" human world, he meets a kind sea turtle named Lua, who takes him to the Island of Lost Creatures. He expects to attend school, meet friends, and fit in, but he gets off to a rough start. Ember tries to remain optimistic and make the best of every situation, but then a mysterious creature takes his few possessions and then comes after him.
Ember's big heart and empathy for others who may be hurting shines through in this story, and are what ultimately save Ember and his new friends. The art is distinctive and appealing, and I enjoyed the imaginative characters. Great standalone for fantasy graphic novel readers.

Ember and the Island of Lost Creatures

I recently read Treasure in the Lake by Jason Pamment and was delighted with the story and beauty and original style of the art. Not a week later I was thrilled to see that Ember and the Island of Lost Creatures was available to read and review on NetGalley! Jason Pamment has once again brought us an original story with delightful characters and a wholesome, touching message. I loved this new story even more. Ember and all the characters were adorable in their smallness but Ember was especially admirable. It was wonderful to see a character with so much courage and a deep desire to love and be loved. He keeps trying and keeps showing up with compassion. He has to overcome so much being a little person in the big world as well as a little person among other little creatures. The art was gorgeous and each page was a feast for the eyes. The colors and details of the new world Jason Pamment created beautifully enhanced the story. Nothing felt overwhelming and there was just enough dialogue. I have a graphic novel loving son and am often asked for recommendations. I highly recommend this heartwarming and beautiful book!

This graphic novel is perfect for fans of Lightfall and Amulet. A small boy goes on a journey with a turtle to an island where he hopes to find friendship and a place to belong.

While the art was adorable, the story jumped around a lot and the pacing was off for me. I think middle grade readers will enjoy the adventure aspects and cute creatures.

This was interesting! I liked this a lot more than the previous book from this author. It felt more cohesive. It was really cute and was a lot about belonging and found family.

“Ember and the Island of Lost Creatures” is a new Graphic Novel by Jason Pamment and I had the opportunity to read it in advance via NetGalley.

It's about a human boy that doesn't fit into the human world due to his size, since he is roughly as tall as an apple. He sets out on an adventure to a secluded island to find his first friend.

I am absolutely amazed by this book. The drawing style and narration were so whimsical and fun. I loved all the different characters and I really felt for Ember and his struggles. Its about friendship, belonging and acceptance. There are even some educational parts about different animals and their special abilities that were interesting. I would compare this book to the vibes of “The Secret World of Arrietty” by Studio Ghibli and Finding Nemo from Pixar Animation Studios. It's a Middle Grade book but I would say it's definitely worth a read for bookworms of all ages that like a heartfelt adventure.

Ember is a tiny human who lives alone because he's the only tiny human that existed, at least in this story. When he wanted to make friends with a normal "giant" human, they chased him instead. when he attempted to escape through waterways, he ended up in a beach and meet a sea turtle named Lua. Lua offered to take Ember to an island where tiny and extraordinary creatures live, and he agreed. and so their trip began.

A heartwarming story about friendship and learning about mimicry along the way. Really love the illustrations that captured the vibes and setting perfectly.

This is an adorable graphic novel that will delight readers with its unique creatures, but very relatable story. Ember's struggle to find a place where he belongs and other creatures that he can call friends will resonate with young readers. This is a great addition to all children's graphic novel collections.

I received my copy through Netgalley for an honest review.
For Ember, being small in a giant world is frightening. When he meets a sea turtle named Lua, she invites him to a mysterious island in the middle of nowhere for an education like no other. There he meets other fantastical creatures, small like him, as he tries to fit in. From cave dwellers to one quiet boulder, Ember is drawn into a strange creature down in the depths of the ocean. Can Ember make friends and still have fun?
This graphic novel was amazing! I really enjoyed the storyline and how Ember grows into his character. Seeing the artwork of the other schoolmates was fascinating to know about. Beautifully drawn and with imagination at heart, the island and its inhabitants drew me in with its bright colors and gorgeous art style. Ember and the Island of Lost Creatures is a fun adventure made for all ages, a graphic novel sure to stay with us for a long time.

Thanks to the author and publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!

This was a beautiful graphic novel for both art and story.

Ember is a tiny person living among humans (or giants to her) wishing he could go to school. After falling through a drain pipe Ember meets a large turtle who knows of an island with a school for creatures his size. And so Ember embarkes on an adventure of discovery.

This story was full of original creature designs that felt fresh and original. We have access to so many fantasy worlds in our time, so that is hard to do. The story is fun and engaging and the world and art is just BEAUTIFUL. I can't wait to read more from this author

(Also posted on goodreads and amazon)

Ember is a lonely boy who just wants to make a friend. But he lives in a world of giants who don't see him as a person. One day, he meets a sea turtle, Lua, who can relate to his situation. She was also alone, but was able to grow up and learn on a special island for creatures that are different. She bring Ember there, so he can finally go to school and meet other creatures his age and size, but fitting in is harder than expected. A very sweet new kid story, with imaginative and fun world building and characters.

My graphic novels-loving tween liked this book so much! She says she hopes there is going to be part 2 for this, and also we ended up having to order another book by this author, Treasure in the Lake, as now she wants to read anything and everything else by the same author. I guess that says a lot, you not only read and enjoy this book but also request your parents to get you more books. She said Ember is so cute and fun, she cannot remember any other book with a character just like this one.
What I noticed in this book: the drawings. The drawings are beautiful. Cute, whimsical, clear, bright. I absolutely see how this book can be so appealing to kids who love graphic novels, this book has it all. The drawings are nice and there is complimenting text that is not overwhelming, but just the right amount to make sense for the story, and the storyline is exciting and fun.

This was a beautiful middle grade graphic novel. I liked it more than Treasure in the Lake. The illustrations are charming and it reminded me of one my favorite graphic novels, Lightfall. I hope this is a series so I can keep following Ember’s journey.
