I received an ebook copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for a fair review.

Now I was skeptical about why anyone would need a book about ice and boy was I wrong. There are lots of really interesting tips on how to make clear, fun, ice creations to add to cocktails, punches and other drinks. Pictures help with crafting the look of the ice blocks and shapes and gives the reader inspiration to create their own recipes.

This book would make a great gift for the cocktail aficionado in your life!

The author is part mad scientist and part generational wizard and his creations are carefully curated craft cocktails elevated by crystal clear ice art. It's a party I'd definitely love attend, as long as I don't have to do the work!

This selection was for A the person, not Ms. L the teacher, so my review is not from an educator perspective. That said, I will be thinking about ways to incorporate the ideas of the book into a lesson... hmmm... food for thought.

This was a really fun book - but not one that translated well as an e-book. That said, I found it interesting and entertaining enough that I will buy the print copy - and keep it in mind as a birthday or housewarming gift.

I liked the hints for "clear" ice, but really appreciated the "recipes" for decorative ice. What a great idea for making your party just THAT much more special. Definitely a way to impress guests!

Thank you to NetGalley and Red Lightning Books for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinions.

You Need This Book!

For a long time I have tried to make molded ice and it never seems to come out like the professional influencers who make drinks online. Now that I am back to entertaining I want beautiful ice to serve my guests. Wow, I did not know that the type of water you use could impact the outcome so much until I read this book. It is an extremely thorough reference and recipe book that teaches you how to make the most basic and elaborate ice for drinks and drinks within ice—yes, a drink in an ice sphere—flowers in spheres too! I learned what type of water to use and how to rid my ice of most, if not all its’ air bubbles. I am so excited to try out my new techniques at my next party. My thanks to #CamperEnglish, RedLightningBooks, and #NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my review.

Wow is my ice game non-existent. Who knew I could do so many things with ice? I’ve always noticed how cool the clear cubes were and I have a heart shaped ice tray that has conveniently disappeared. But this book has shapes and texture. Clear ice and beautiful objects inside.

Such great ideas for entertaining. And the beautiful cover and pictures inside would make this a small but wonderful book to sit out.

A brilliant book for any drink master. Whether you're making cocktails or lemonade the ideas here are creative, fun, and will bring a smile to your guest's face when you hand them a drink. This would make a fun gift for the host in your life that is always coming up with creative serving ideas.

This book has become one of my favorites and a perfect addition to my bar cart.

Why you ask did I fall in love with this book? Well, I’ll tell you! I like ice a lot. I have even just purchased a table top ice maker for myself. I also enjoy a good cocktail.

In this book, which is deceivingly scientific, Camper explains how to make clear ice by “directional freezing”. My ice is normally cloudy and now I know why and thanks to this book I have learned how to create clear ice.

The book also teaches how to carve ice and how to freeze objects into ice. My personal goal is to try to successfully freeze a bottle inside an ice block.

There are also some yummy cocktail recipes and beautiful photos that are part of this book.

This is a perfect book for gifting or keeping for all those cocktail and ice lovers out there.

As the summer cocktail season is upon us, now is the perfect time for the Ice Book! 🧊

In this book, we learn how to make perfectly clear ice! It’s not too hard, but there’s a lot more steps than just pouring water into a mold and freezing it. The book shows exactly how to do it and also includes several recipes for classic cocktails.

I enjoyed learning to make different styles of ice and even flavored ice. I often mix fruit with my water, but I never thought to put it in the ice! I’ll definitely be making this over the summer.

Thank you to @suzyapprovedbooktours and @alcademics for my gifted book. This would make a great hostess gift with a bottle of your favorite spirit!

The Ice Book has taken my interest in ice to a whole new level! I’m a longtime ice fan which might sound silly but we’ve had two ice makers for years since I couldn’t decide between crushed ice and ice cubes. Reading this book has inspired me to make ice in different shapes and with different ingredients. I will definitely be trying several of the ideas to treat our family and friends to beautiful and tasty cocktails! This fun read has great pictures and would make a perfect gift.

My fiancé loves making and creating new drinks and experiments with ice regularly - different ice trays, directional freezing etc. I really loved how this book incorporated the basics, but also advanced information. The pictures are so colorful and I love that there are recipes within the book to show what kind of ice you could use. If you are a beginner looking to make your drink pop, I would suggest this book.

This book kind of blew my mind. I naively thought making ice was a no brainer (water+container+freezer=ice) oh no! This is an art form.

This book not only tells you how to make the coolest (har har) clear ice, there are some great drink recipes to pour over the ice.

Great gift for the mixologist in your life.

The Ice Book - such an interesting topic that I didn't know I needed to know about! I didn't read every word of this book I must admit though I believe I got the general gist of it. I haven't tried any of the ice making techniques outlined though I'm glad that I'm aware of them should I ever need to make them. This book is very technical and would make an excellent gift for a cocktail lover or anyone who loves to host! I was most interested to learn how to cut the ice so that you can cut the misty part off so I was excited when this was outlined. Thank you to the publisher for allowing me to read an advance copy, I appreciate it.

Ok, this was even cooler than I expected - no pun intended! I am amazed by the thought that goes into ice making and the photography in this book is so modern, sleek, and beautiful in its own right. Well done! I know my husband will also enjoy looking through this! I really didn’t think I would find this as interesting as it was!

This book on ice felt lackluster and a bit cloudy. I expect to be wowed because ice wow what can be done with it is endless. But this was pretty basic. Also, the format with a photo with a lot of writing and the photographs were not that good.

There was a lot of emphasis on making clear ice and troubleshooting when the ice didn't come out clear. There was help using an ice cooler to make clear ice. So the book had technical methods down well but the creativity in this book was lacking. They showed some spheres and blocks but not many and also they did cover there are different molds out there to use but didn't show much use of them.

Indeed there are more beautiful and creative ideas for ice cubes on Instagram then in this ice book.

I would like to thank NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review The Ice Book by Camper English.

Yes, this is a "cookbook" ON ICE or more specifically, on how ice can elevate your cocktails: heck, with some pea flowers involved, it can change the colour of your drink as it melts! (cool!!! I love pea flower tea so will have to try this at home!)

I have never really thought about how to make clear ice or basic ice in general: I never have ice at home because I don't have room in my ridiculously tiny freezer for trays of it: I save it for bags of frozen veggies which are about the only way we can afford vegetables these days. But if you want clear ice or fancy ice for your cocktails, this is the book to read. Most people I know who are into cocktails are into vodka and soda (the MOST RIDICULOUS mixed drink ever) but if you are into negronis or a wonderful mocktail, this book can make it even fancier.

Decidedly a niche book but still enjoyable to read.

IDK about you but I weirdly love ice and especially different ice shapes. If you are like me, you will enjoy this book. I liked learning about the different types and how you can make them or elevate them to make them amazing. I would love to read a book about different foods like I did the Ice Book!
