I received a copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is an interesting book!

This book talks about how to get clear ice cubes, various ways to freeze ice cubes, and how ice cubes can impact drinks. While the book feels a little dense at times it includes a lot of information. The book talks about different freezing techniques and includes "recipes" for things like freezing flowers in cubes and more.

I love this book! I was only mildly interested in it when I requested an ARC but it’s so fun and the ideas are so cool. The author developed a way to freeze clear ice a while ago that became mildly famous and he teaches you how to do that (and all the science behind the cloudy parts and why doing things like using distilled or boiled water doesn’t work). But besides that he also teaches a ton of other brilliantly cool ways to make all kinds of shapes and effects. Who wouldn’t love making blue spherical ice cubes from butterfly pea flowers that turn your clear cocktail hot pink? (Okay, if you wouldn’t then I don’t think we’d get along.)

There are photos and cocktail recipes throughout and way more science than you’d expect. I’m thinking of giving a copy to my science loving, project loving 15 year old who is a bit of an ice aficionado himself.

This book is great fun, really interesting and highly recommended.

I read a temporary digital copy of this book via NetGalley.
