This premise of this story really caught my attention and the art style fit perfectly with the creepy tone. However, my interest started to fizzle partway through and the ending felt a bit abrupt. I enjoyed this one well enough to finish it, but would probably not continue this series.

This was definitely a unique read. It lived up to the horror genre, in that it really r ached your spine and made it squeeze and quiver with anticipation of what you as going to happen next. It kept you wondering and thinking all the way through.

I'm used to a bit more from Bunn's work but this felt a bit abridged and underbaked (or maybe missing an issue).

I was immediately thrown into the story. The drawing style sets the atmosphere perfectly. The first issue builds the story and interest quite well. The gore is pretty simplified but still has gruesome details which could make this comic not for everyone. If u like Horror and Gore tho, i would recommend it. Although its quite cliche and has typical horror tropes.

The volume ends with unanswered questions and mysteries only beginning to take form, of course, to be continued in consecutive issues, but unfortunately I don't get the impression that it will do anything meaningful narratively/creatively/restrospectively to warrant the use of such a horrific real historic event like Unit 731 as its hook.

This graphic novel is very graphic indeed. Gruesome, dark, and bloody, with an engaging mystery and a plot that hooked me from the first page. I loved it!

This is a blood filled, gory graphic novel and I loved every minute of it.

A serial killer, a team of doctors, an incompetent police force... you get quite an exhilarating ride. I read this in two days.

Thank you #NetGalley for #ALegacyofViolence

This is a gruesome and very graphic novel. It is not for the faint of heart. It is a graphic, graphic novel, full of bloody body horror. This book takes place at various time periods time. In 1966, and in two different 1985 within two weeks of each other. In 1966, as a child, Dr. Shaw found a film strip about something called unit 731. We don’t know what that was. In 1985, in Atlanta strange murders were taking place and it sent Dr. Shah way from the hospital and into the arms of doctors without borders. While in Honduras, the same type of gruesome murders are happening again. The reader is treated to knowledge of someone who wears a punisher type mask and he has nefarious and evil plans, but no idea why. Dr. Shaw has run away from what happened in Atlanta just to find out it’s happening again and unit 731 keeps coming up. This is only 90 pages and there’s not enough to tell you what is happening. However, it’s enough to get you intrigued to say I need a volume two. I want to know what’s going on because certain characters aren’t what they seem and who is the man behind the basket, and what happened to Dr. Shaw. I need to know!

Viscerally evocative illustrations and stark depictions of violence, this book was nothing short of gripping. I am waiting for volume 2 with bated breath.

“A legacy of violence” is a tale of pain and suffering when a doctor finds himself mysteriously linked to a series of patients tortured to death. Dr. Nick Shaw encounters tortured patients who claim to know him and desperately need to pass on a short message. There is a killer with roots going back generations but gives no clues to the killer’s identity, the connection to Dr. Shaw, and the history behind the killer.

The mystery is engaging as parts to a greater whole, but if you’re looking for big scares or gore, this isn’t that kind of horror story. There are mild moments of shock, but the tension builds with each page turned. The artwork works well withe story but may not be appreciated by some. The deaths are unsettling. I can hardly wait for the next volume to come out!

Hadn’t hear of this title before now, and I’m already eagerly wanting to read more! Definitely a gore fest when it comes to graphic novels. The story is instantly gripping, and as you read more and more you get dragged further in.

Will definitely be looking forward to the next volume!

Thank you net galley and Mad Cave Studio for providing me with a free copy of A Legacy of Violence in exchange for an honest review.

I am tentatively rating this book two stars. The subject matter that this comic covers is very sensitive. The main premise of the comic is Dr. Nicholas Shaw was attacked by one of his patients and has trauma due to the event. To help recuperate he goes to help out a medical outfit in Honduras. There he runs into even stranger problems involving a serial killer.

The reason this comic has a lower rating for me is because it deals with Unit 731. One of the biggest known atrocities committed during World War 2. Essentially it was a Japanese biological experimental unit that performed sickening acts on thousands upon thousands of innocent people. It's lesser known among the horrors of World War 2 to the general public so to see it used as a story hook for a comic is a little offputting.
If it was handled with more respect I wouldn't mind it so much but from this volume alone I don't hold out too much hope.

Beyond that none of the characters really stood out to me. The art is pretty good and the horror aspect of the comic is strong. I would say wait to check out this one till more volumes are available and you're able to see what they say about how the plot is handled.

Thank you NetGalley for the arc.

I just finished reading this and was unfortunately let down by the experience. Upon reading other reviews, I discovered what “731” was. This story has two perspectives/time lines and I’m confused about how they connect. It wasn’t clear to me. The main doctor character was lacking. I wasn’t sure if he would become a suspect, but everyone was ignoring his concerns. Wish this could have gone in a more speculative direction.

I was really excited to read this for the horror (and gore) and I wasn’t scared, grossed out, or disturbed. I was just trying to get through it.

I liked a Legacy of Violence Vol 1, but I didn't love it. The artwork is great and very detailed. I just don't think I'm to person for this graphic, it was a bit....well more violent than I was expecting. I don't do well with torture, and the torture in the comic, while well done and rendered with much talent, just wasn't for me. That didn't stop me from enjoying the comic, however.
I did like how the past storyline is encroaching on the main character's present and he's not sure why. This is mostly due to some sort of amnesia that was forced on him after a terrible trauma he suffered as a child under the care of his grandparents. Dr. Shaw is now working for a Humanitarian group, similar to Doctor's Without Boarders, but a dark entity seems to be following and knows more about his past than he does. The entity also has an obsession with Dr. Shaw's skill with a blade, but what does it want? And how does his family's past factor in? These are the questions the reader is left with toward the end of this volume. I look forward to how the story plays out.

This was the blandest horror story. Guy in a skull mask cuts people up because he's a deranged seral killer. One dimensional characters wring their hands and wander about waiting to be the next victims and that's it. Really weak writing and art, instantly forgettable story - very disappointing effort from such an experienced creative team.

Absolutely disgusting, I loved it. The art is indescribable but it felt as if I was really there. So much story was told in so little pages, it's impressive. I caught myself saying "ew" so many times in this comic. That's a really good thing for horror! It's a type of horror I don't find myself reading a lot of because it can get overwhelming quickly. This story had a good balance between gross and interesting.

I do wish the switching between the time the story takes place and the past was done with a little more grace, but other than that, this is an amazing story and I can't wait to see more of it.

"A Legacy of Violence Vol.1" by Cullen Bunn follows a serial killer and some doctors who wish to stop him.

I would give "A Legacy of Violence V.1" by Cullen Bunn a 2-star review because, I didn't enjoy the art, the narrator seems to be unreliable, and the whole concept seems cliche and boring.

I received this book arc for free through NetGalley for an honest review.

I loved the authors harrow county series! Those books was truly amazing. And when I saw this I just knew I had to read it.

I loved the idea of reading a horror series based around the true horror of unit 731. Which was a unit that did a lot of horrific experiment in ww2 japan.

The graphic novel itself was rather….forgettable. I think I liked the blurb and idea more than the actual book.

I also wasn’t a fan of the green tones in peoples faces. The art was fine but not to my taste.

A lot of cliches and it ended on a cliffhanger. I am still interested enough to keep reading.
