Fascinating look at the evolution of capitalism and the global economy. The author makes well-supported predictions about future global economic zones, touching on everything from Hong Kong to Disney World. I had never considered the overlap between democracy and the world’s largest companies. The power of corporations over individuals is on full display in this book with tons of tangible examples.

The author forecasts a scary future (well, scary for anyone who is not ultra rich) and it’s impossible to tell how accurate those predictions will be. Crack Up Capitalism is an excellent exposé on the impacts of mega corporations on the globe.

Quinn Slobodian describes a group of rich people with a disturbing and dangerous set of values. I have always been taught that capitalism and democracy go together, but certain very rich libertarians believe that democracy should be demolished. Democracy just gives the inferior underclass a way to steal money from the superior rich through taxation. Some of these libertarians want to create many new micro-nations following the example of Hong Kong, Singapore, and Liechtenstein. If they can’t create new countries they at least want more tax free, regulation free zones in countries. I think that this is an important topic that normal people need to be aware of. Rich people can easily create propaganda that will fool the rest of us into giving away our rights if we don’t know what to look out for.

Keith Sellon-Wright was an excellent narrator for this book. He has a good blend of natural and radio voice that is pleasant to listen to.

Crackin' But Not Lackin'

This was a really interesting book on global politics and capitalism.

It took a look at a bunch of different systems around the world and analyzed their backgrounds and effectiveness.

I thought it was an especially applicable book on my recent interest of international relations, foreign policy, and geopolitics.

Especially noted in this book are places like China, Dubai, Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong, and India.

I would recommend this for anyone interested in global politics and learning more behind the scenes.

4.5/5
