I am in a major reading slump right now, so it is no fault of this book, but it was just not vibing with me. I was just looking for the thing to get me hooked again and unfortunately this wasn't it. Again, that is not to say this was not a good book, I was just not in the mood for it.

i enjoyed this poetry collection! while it wasn't deeply impactful, it had some nice lines and a couple of poems that did really hit me. in the introduction, the author mentions that she has also written songs, and many of these poems felt like snippets from songs, which i both enjoyed and found to be somewhat of a drawback from the emotional content of the work.

This was such a sweet poetry book. Definitely took me back to some moments in my life. I'm gonna be getting a finished copy so I can annotate it.

I like to think that I enjoy poetry but I usually feel like it is out of my reach and I do not fully understand it. That was not the case with this collection. I really felt an emotional connection to this collection and I will be purchasing a physical copy.

This book of poetry brought me back to high school and college and the angst of losing your first love. The poems conveyed the hurt and loss felt so acutely.

ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.

I thoroughly enjoyed this short book of poetry! It brought me back to my youth and first love, along with the heartbreak that followed. I love that the author rhymes some of her poems and how they’re incredibly relatable to the majority of people. I would say it’s a solid 4.5 stars! If you like coming of age poetry, you’ll enjoy this book!

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for allowing me to read this arc. I was intrigued by the title, cover and have enjoyed many works of similiar focus but I have mixed feelings on this one. It took me ages to finish it because some of it read like someone's teenage diary but there were other poems that hit me in my core and found me when I needed them months later. This isn't an earth shattering work but if you enjoy self help, introspective, inspirational poetry and aren't looking for anything too challenging it could be the right read for you.

This was a beautiful poetry collection, providing vivid imagery and a window into the sole of unrequited love. The poems progress into a narrative that depicts the depths of love, loneliness, and pain. The poetry varried in style, length, rhythm, and complexity, providing a new experience on each page. I appreciate the author sharing her work wtih us.

I had started an ARC of this in 2023 and then it expired. I said I liked it enough that if I saw it in the wild, I'd pick it up. I saw it weeks later in December in a Target on sale, so I picked it up. I have mixed feelings on this poetry collection.
When I first started rereading sections, I thought to myself that this did not feel like the collection I had started reading. I only liked 18 poems in this collection. I did the math and if I was to give a rating based off of data and not vibes, this would've gotten a 1-star rating. However, I don't rate poetry based on statistics on how many poems were actually good. I didn't hate the language Sophiee Diener uses, but a lot of it felt very simple and trite. As I was reading each poem, I felt this feeling of emptiness. These poems felt soulless at times and full of personal heartbreak at others. It also felt very much like it was written to appeal to others and make them go, "OMG, girl, me, too!" This isn't a bad thing, but these poems are written to make people feel connected, not to process the emotions as to why they feel this way or lead them down a path of self-reflection and deeper thought like my favorite poetry collections tend to do.

Apparently, Sophie is a TikTok sensation. Good for her. It seems like she is still finding her voice in the world of poetry. I may pick up another collection in the future to see if she's grown and found more of her voice.

2023 Review
I got about 20 pages into this before my ARC copy expired. I was enjoying it enough to plan to return it someday. If I find a copy out in the wild, I'll be sure to pick it up.

I loved this poetry collection! I actually listened to it first (she reads it herself and did a great job) and then I decided to reread a physical copy so I could really absorb everything more and highlight the ones I wanted to be able to look back on.

I wasn't familar with Sophie Diener before this book but she writes in such an easy, relatable way so I'll definitely keep an eye out for her in the future. I used to write poetry when I was younger and this honestly reminded me of an elevated version of something I might have written. She really pulls you in.

Thank you St Martin's Griffin and Macmillan Audio for the review copies!

I received a copy of this book for free, and I leave my review voluntarily.

Sophie Diener is a writer based in the Midwest. She writes and shares poetry about mental health, body image, love, and heartbreak. Someone Somewhere Maybe is her first book.

I love the vulnerability that comes with poetry. You can feel emotions that exceed your imagination. The depth between these pages was beautiful.

I wish the arc had the illustrations, but the writing was superb. Sophie is talented and expresses things in such a raw, pure way.

My favorite poem was “I Hope Today is Kind to You.” There was genuine kindness woven into each line. It left me feeling hopeful, and I had to share it.

I have a hard time rating poetry because I know how very personal the writing is. I do not have anything positive to say at all about this collection of poems, however, so I will not be saying anything as I do not want to go on a negative rant.

I really enjoyed this poetry collection. I would definitely recommend it to anyone feeling romantic heartache or who has been through a tough breakup. I also think you’d like it if you enjoy Taylor Swift lyrics or Olivia Rodrigo lyrics. My favorite poems were “Feelings”, “Who are you?”, “Light Source”, and “The Life I Dream Of.”

Thank you NetGalley for gifting me an advance copy of Someone Somewhere Maybe in exchange for my honest review.

This one had been on my TikTok For You Page many times before I got my hands on it. I was excited to finally get around to it! I do think I would have preferred an audio version--I had a more emotional connection to hearing the TikToks than I did to reading the poems. But it was a relatable collection and I did thoroughly enjoy it.

Huge thanks to NetGalley and Griffin for the chance to read and review this book. This book - a book of poems - really hit home for me. The poems are beautifully written and are relatable to anyone, in whatever stage of life you’re in. High recommend.

This was a stunning collection of work that I found myself reading in one solid sitting. It felt like the author's words were pulled from the thoughts in my head, which means they're poems that I know I'll keep coming back to. I can't wait to read more from Sophie Diener in the future.

3.5 Stars

It’s been a while since I read a book of poetry, and I went into this one somewhat blind, since I don’t spend a lot of time online, I am on goodreads more than the others combined, so I had not been aware of Sophie Diener’s poetry, all I knew was she was a poet who shares her poems online.

These poems encompass a variety of topics, although the majority seem to revolve around the complexity of relationships, the aftermath of the end of one, or looking back on one, as well as recalling the highs of giving her heart to someone and having it returned, if only for a time. The heartbreak of the loss also infuses her writing, as well as the heartbreak of having to say goodbye to someone, even if it is a temporary time.

As with most poetry collections, some of these poems will reach into the hearts of other readers differently, some will be relatable, some possibly less so. Some will be memorable, and some will not, but overall, I loved her message of being kind to yourself, holding on to hope, and finding the person that you can call home.
