The Night in Question is the highly anticipated sequel of The Agathas that features Agatha Christie aficionado Alice Ogilvie and her unlikely partner in sleuthing Iris Adams. This time Alice and Iris have to try to figure out who assaulted one of their classmates during the Sadie Hawkins dance and what truly happened to famed film star Mona Moody in the 40’s when she accidentally fell off of the balcony at Levy Castle.

This was very fast-paced and read like a cozy mystery, although terrible/violent things did happen! I also liked that Glasgow and Lawson kept their teen detectives credible in what they could manage to find out and how. This sequel was jam-packed with mysteries and reveals and I loved how everything tied up at the end. I also liked that they didn’t necessarily get a happy ending, making this more realistic, but also kind of setting up for another book (I’d love a book three!).

The Levy Castle setting and old Hollywood link to it was part of the allure of this book, not to mention that I loved Alice and Iris’s friendship and how well they work together as wannabe Veronica Mars. But I also like how Glasgow and Lawson show how much trouble the two teens could actually get into if they actually try to help and how law enforcement barely acknowledges them whenever they actually crack a case.

This is a fun read and I recommend this if you’re a fan of teen detectives and cozy mysteries.

I am an absolute SUCKER for a Young Adult Murder Mystery and The Night in Question did NOT disappoint!

Both The Agathas and The Night in Question are fun, clever, humorous, and not nearly as predictable as a lot of YAMM I've read, which I absolutely love. They keep you guessing and turning the pages as quickly as you can!

Thank you to NetGalley and Random House for this eArc of The Night in Question!

Absolutely spectacular. I know a murder mystery shouldn't be a comfort read, but this one is definitely that for me,

I love a good vintage mystery, especially when it is two cases in different timelines. This was a good continuation to the first book, and I loved how the story came together.

I loved everything about THE NIGHT IN QUESTION, the second book in The Agathas series. This is a YA amateur detective series that is all the things I love - a little Veronica Mars + Agatha Christie + Murder, She Wrote + Nancy Drew (the TV series, minus the supernatural) and I flew through it.

Just such great fun and would recommend to anyone and everyone who is a fan of YA mysteries. I’d put it in the same category as TRULY DEVIOUS, GOOD GIRL’S GUIDE & THE INHERITANCE GAME series & the CHARLOTTE HOLMES series.

This is the second in The Agathas series of books. Two teenagers inspired by Agatha Christie solving crimes in their upscale California town. I enjoyed this one and will look forward to the third installment. This is a cozy mystery with enough twists to keep you guessing until the end.

though i enjoyed the agathas when i read it last year, i wasn't blown away, so i went into this one with relatively low expectations. however, i really enjoyed this one, even more than the first! the dual timeline mysteries were so fun, and i was so easily swept up into the story. very excited for any future installments in the series.

I really loved these authors’ first book, “The Agathas.” This was a solid follow-up, but I didn’t love the historical mystery element of it and wished they focused on the modern story a bit more. There was humor alongside a good thrilling element, but I didn’t find this book quite as engrossing as its predecessor. I liked this novel, but I didn’t love it. 3 stars ⭐️. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the advanced copy for review.

Alice and Iris are at it again. I truly enjoyed the first book in The Agathas series, and this follow-up was every bit as fun. The book opens with one of the girls' classmates being assaulted at a school function and another taking the fall. But something about the whole scene seems off to our the two teenage super sleuths.

Their suspicions lead them down a path that intertwines the current day crime to the death of a local celebrity that took place in the 1940's. Kathleen Glasgow and Liz Lawson's duel narration through both Alice and Iris' point of views kept the book moving at a pace that kept me intrigued and the ending was a satisfying one. As always, the Christie connections are fantastic, and the supporting cast of characters are delightful. I'm excited to add this one to my classroom bookshelf and anxiously awaiting the third Agathas release.

Wow! This books was fantastic. I absolutely loved The Agathas and I was really hoping that this second installment of the series was going to be good and it did not disappoint. This time, our sleuths are solving a mystery from the 1940’s so it made this story different from the first one. I love the setting of Castle Cove and the characters.

3.25/5 stars! This is the second book in the Agathas series. I've read other books by Kathleen Glasgow and found them to be overly simplified. This story held that standard. The concept of following Agatha Christie's clues to solve a murder was clever and silly, but didn't overcome the poor pacing and lack of a compelling twist. It was an adequate story younger readers may like.

I love this YA murder mystery series of sorts and I SO hope there are more Agathas books coming out!

The way that Iris and Alice have formed such an unusual but genuine friendship is so heartwarming in the midst of literal crimes occurring. Castle Cove is a wild town that has such a specific small town feeling that makes for the best setting for murder mysteries.

I think that there is a lot that these authors could do with this story and I will be not so patiently waiting for an announcement of book three.

In The Night in Question, we open with Alice and Iris at a dance at a castle filled with secret passageways and a sordid history involving the death of a young movie starlet in her prime. A history that gets even darker when one of their classmates is attacked and left for dead. When Alice tumbles out of a secret passage to find her injured classmate and another standing over her with a bloody letter opener, she thinks the worst. But soon Alice and Iris realize there may be more than meets the eye and help clear the very person Alice made a suspect.

I love, love, love seeing more YA mysteries. We have so many YA thrillers and so few classic mysteries. Those of us that grew up with The Boxcar Children and Nancy Drew need something to move onto, and this is it. Also, I cannot express how much I love the bright pink cover. The contrast of the gruesome death with the cheery, feminine cover gives me life. Overall, I enjoyed this book, perhaps even more than the first. The mystery itself is very well-crafted, involving multiple interwoven plots spanning decades. I suspected who the killer was before the end, but I hadn't quite worked out all the pieces of the puzzle.

Thanks to Delacorte Press for my eARC! All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Another good read thanks to Netgalley! It took me a little while to finish but overall I did enjoy the book. I didn’t realize it was a series so I did miss out on some context from not having read the previous book but it wasn’t a huge problem. I would have liked more twists and turns and a more eventful ending but overall it was well written, had a solid plot and even had some funny parts throughout.

Alice and Iris are back. While they solved Brooke's murder, the unlikely duo are now helping solve the attempted murder of Rebecca Kennedy, which happened at Levy Castle during their school's Sadie Hawkins dance. This was an interesting YA mystery.

If you have read The Agathas by Kathleen Glasgow and Liz Lawson, you will love The Night In Question. Teenage sleuths Alice and Iris are again drawn into a challenging mystery. Plus, the intrepid duo is able to solve what really happened at the Levy Castle almost a century ago. With its great setting, well drawn characters, and action filled suspenseful plot, this is not only a highly entertaining book, but it would be a must see movie.
The first Agatha book was geared to older teens, but younger teens can read this one without parental concern.
I am already looking forward to the next book in the series!
