Kathleen Glasgow and Liz Lawson have returned to Castle Cove in “The Night in Question,” the fantastic sequel to the New York Times bestseller, “The Agathas.”

Last fall, Iris Adams and Alice Ogilvie became the talk of their town when they solved the murder of their peer, Brooke Donovan. After putting Brooke’s killer behind bars, life begins to return to normal for the two teenagers…until the night of their school dance.

Following the brutal assault of another classmate, Iris and Alice get back to work to get to the bottom of this case. As they start their investigation, the two realize that the present case is connect to the past, specifically the tragic death of starlet Mona Moody in the 1940s. Following the lessons from Agatha Christie, Iris and Alice uncover a conspiracy that spans decades and race against the clock to find out what really happened—both in the 1940s and at their school dance.

I was very fortunate to be allowed to read “The Agathas” ahead of its publication and I have been dying to know what happened next to the best teen detectives since Nancy Drew! “The Night in Question” did not disappoint! Although the stakes aren’t as personal as in “The Agathas,” this book will still keep reads up past their bedtimes to learn “whodunnit.”

One of the best parts of the series are the two main characters, Iris Adams and Alice Ogilvie. The two teenage girls are distinct in their differences, which keeps it interesting for the readers. Iris is fierce and strong. She determinedly pushes through the trauma of her childhood in hopes of being able to move beyond it and live what she considers a normal life.

Alice is also fierce, but in a sharper way than Iris. She is remarkably blunt and largely apathetic towards the majority of the people she encounters in her dogged pursuit of solving the case.

I spent most of the book awed by how well Glasgow and Lawson managed to capture the nuances of being a teenage girl. Both of the female leads have a lot of personal problems that weigh heavily on them over the course of the book but neither are in a place where they want to share it with the other. This leads to frustration and snappish behavior, which is a common teenage experience and was really neat to see represented so well.

The plot of “The Night in Question” was obviously excellent. As someone who works in the history field, I loved the addition of the mystery surrounding the 1940s movie star Mona Moody’s tragic death and was enthralled by how Glasgow and Lawson managed to connect that with the modern day attack on their classmate. The book was full of twists that would make Agatha Christie proud.

In summary, Glasgow and Lawson wrote a phenomenal YA mystery that you should read as soon as possible!

I've said it before and I'll say it again - I really hope there aren't as many high schoolers in real life out there trying to solve crimes as there are in YA books. I definitely liked this follow up to the Agathas, but as an adult I was stressed a lot by the bonehead choices that Iris and Alice continued to make. While it didn't spark for me quite as much as the Agathas did, I did really like the sort of two for one mystery here - their classmate is violently attacked at Levy Castle, the historic mansion that also featured in the first book, during a Sadie Hawkins dance. Her attack ends up intersecting with the long ago death of Mona Moody, an actress in the late 1940s who married Charles Levy and lived in the castle until allegedly falling to her death as a result of being weakened by tuberculosis. As I was reading, I had the feeling of this going a bit too fast, and while that's probably the point with a mystery, I just didn't get as absorbed in it as I did the first one. Still a fun read and I'll definitely read the next Agathas book (which I hope is coming!).

I absolutely adore the crime solving duo of Iris and Alice. Their continued friendship and problem solving is what makes this book. I love how this work of fiction intertwines the reality of being a teenage girl. I love how in depth the authors had to think to connect all the dots by the end of the book. I hope there’s more books to come!

This was a great investigative YA, I would rank it better than A Good Girls Guide To Murder. (Though both are 3 stars for me.) Of course you expect some unbelievable aspects in a YA, but they stood out more than I would’ve liked and are my reason for the mid rank. It was pretty predictable but the characters were endearing. I’d you’re a YA fan, I’d recommend it to you.

Thank you to the publisher for the ARC.

🌟🌟🌟🌟💫 4.5 stars!

I read the first Agatha’s book a few months back and absolutely devoured it! As soon as I saw there was a second one coming out, it went to my “want to read” shelf immediately!

The story picks up a few months after where the first book ends! We’re right back with Alice, Iris, and the Zoners who get thrown into another murder (attempted) mystery!

I really loved the plot of this sequel! I love how it follows a current mystery while weaving in murder mystery from the 1940’s. I love how the authors brought the story full circle and connected each every part of the mystery and the characters! These authors always do an amazing job of making sure to cover all their bases when laying out the murderers plan and there are never any plot holes when it’s concluded, which is SUPER refreshing!

I’m hoping there’s a 3rd book to continue Alice & Iris’s story! If there is I will definitely be grabbing it!

A huge thank you to NetGalley and Random House Children’s, Delacorte Press for an early copy of this book!

Another delightfully clever mystery featuring Alice and Iris unraveling the truth behind an attack on a classmate during the Sadie Hawkins dance. The old Hollywood backstory adds richness to the plot, and the castle where the attack takes place, with its secrets doorways and rooms, is the perfect setting for a mystery. I really enjoyed the development of Alice and Iris’s friendship and the struggles each girl faces with her parents. Justice is imperfect but the ending is satisfying. I love The Agathas and hope for more in this series!

The Agatha's are back! This time, their friend Kennedy is attacked at a party and another friend is found standing over the body. As Alice and Iris investigate what happened, they uncover a murder mystery from the past that they struggle to solve as well. The friendship between Alice and Iris is at the heart of this mystery and I enjoyed every minute!

I was super excited for this one! I loved the first book in this series, The Agathas. I love YA mystery novels. I really enjoyed this one as well. I am hoping there will be a third book .

The Agathas are back and better than ever! Kathleen Glasgow continues to give us a great mystery and wonderful characters. I love the unlikely friendships and overall attitude of our primary protagonists. I hope this series continues in the future.

Loved this sequel! The Agatha’s, Alice and Iris, are back, along with the Zoners helping out. Another mystery to solve, this time an attack on a former friend that is mixed with the mystery of Mona Moody, a necklace and a family feed. This book didn’t disappoint. I love the balance between Alice and Iris, how they bring out the best in each other while fighting crime. Alice will always need Iris as her voice of reason while Iris needs Alice to be the voice that pushes her out of her comfort zone. I truly hope we get a third book some day!!!

a murder mystery featuring a set of teen detectives who idolize Agatha Christie, THE murder mystery writing icon herself? yes, please.

the night in question is DELIGHTFUL. the story moves at a rapid fire pace (and honestly, all mysteries really should), the characters are committed to justice while still deeply flawed, often borderline idiotically courageous and very likable because of that. there’s a slight theme of romance woven in throughout, but it’s really a minuscule subplot, and takes the backseat to the protagonists’ friendship, which is lovely to follow along with. plus, the dialogue is interesting, which is thanks to a slew of relatively kooky new characters that are introduced.

my only gripe is with the big reveal and that ending…honestly, what was that? it almost feels like the authors’ poured so much time and energy into ramping up the build up to the heart of the story, which meant that when they had to wrap things up, they had nothing left to pull from. I’m still not sure the ‘who done it’ makes that much sense — and at the very least, it’s not a satisfying conclusion, but more of a silly, albeit somewhat sad, one.

in spite of that, the night in question is still a solid read. if you’re a YA fan who doesn’t mind a little mystery every now and again, this is absolutely the book for you.

This is the follow up to The Agathas and I think that it was just as good if not better. I loved it. I will definitely read more in this series as it comes out.

This was a great mystery story! I'm glad I checked goodreads before diving in, because I was able to see it was a sequel and grabbed the first one! I don't think it was necessarily required to read prior, but it made it much more enjoyable to read in order. I adore the banter and dynamic between the two main characters. This is such a great unputdownable read and I highly recommend!

The Agathas has easily become my all time favorite book, so I could not put into words how excited I was to finally dive into The Night in Question!

Alice and Iris are back to not only solve another who-done-it mystery, but to also investigate the history and explore so many more secrets of Castle Cove. This book definitely met my expectations and just like the first one– had me HOOKED from the beginning!

Due to Alice and Iris’ dynamic being introduced and becoming so well established in the first book, the sequel continues to explore this dynamic by inserting them into some crazier situations! There is nothing I love more from this series than following Alice and Iris as they both grow and develop as characters alongside each other. I also truly cannot get enough of their witty banter.
The story even delves more into some side characters; and it feels as if the reader is exploring so much of Castle Cove alongside Alice and Iris!

I love the way The Agathas series continues to give us such amazing characters, memorable interactions, and spectacular writing. The book had me loud gasping, kicking my feet, and screaming into my pillow EVERY single chapter. I cannot wait to support its release so I can continue to yell about it to everyone! Thank you Kathleen Glasgow and Liz Lawson, I hope there’s more from Alice and Iris in the future! I absolutely adored The Night in Question, and here’s hoping for a third book!

Ohhhh, I absolutely loved The Agathas and was so excited to get my hands on The Night in Question by Kathleen Glasgow - and it didnot disappoint.

Everyone's favorite sleuths (well, maybe not the Castle Cove Police Department's favorites and definitely not Officer Thompson's favorites) are back in their second mystery. Picking up where the first book left off, Iris and Alice find themselves at Levy Castle for a school dance. There is plenty of high school drama as two of the girls fight and the entire school films away - but Alice really wants to explore the secret passages and Iris is busy wondering about a relationship with Cole... And then a classmate winds up stabbed while another is caught red-handed by Alice standing over her with a bloody letter opener. It's an open and shut case - or is it?

Alice and Iris know that the police will assume that everything unfolded as it appeared and call the case solved - so it's up to them to find out who really stabbed Rebecca Kennedy and save Helen Parks from going to jail. Add in the mystery death of movie star Mona Moody that occurred on the same property years before and the Agathas are off on another adventure with plenty of twists and turns, including some that could be deadly.

I definitely loved the first book just a tiny bit more, but this one more than met my expectations! I really hope there are more books to come from Kathleen Glasgow starring Iris and Alice.

Agathas series is my guilty pleasure and new addiction! Two misfits are smart crime-solvers using the methods of two legendary Christie characters: Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple! Just buckle up for another wild ride with Alice and Iris! These two girls are polar opposites. Alice comes from a very influential, powerful family and is neglected by her very busy and workaholic parents. She is reserved, patronizing, and keeps her feelings to herself. Iris lives with her mother after sending her harassing father to jail. She is financially struggling and tries to help people who suffer from violent acts, just like her. She is more fragile and emotionally vulnerable than Alice.

When Alice focuses on an outsider viewpoint to solve the mysteries, just like her favorite detective Hercule Poirot, Iris idolizes Miss Marple and her insider knowledge, prying around the townie's method to improve her approach.
This time, the girls find themselves solving an attempted murder case of their classmate Rebecca Kennedy. Her case might be related to the mysterious death of the 1940s legendary movie star Mona Moody!

At the opening, Iris and Alice attend the traditional Sally Hawkins dance at the infamous Levy Castle, where Mona Moody died by falling down the balcony. Rebecca Kennedy and Helen Park have a catfight because they both chose to wear the same gowns, and their fight is being filmed. A few hours later, Alice follows a secret passage in the castle that leads her to a room where a bloodied Kennedy lies on the carpet, suffering from a head injury and stab wound, as Helen Park holds a letter opener which may be the weapon that hurt Kennedy. Helen starts running away from Alice, repeating that she is innocent.

The entire student body finds themselves trapped in the castle as a mudslide cocoons the castle. Helen has no blood on her dress, and she’s not the kind of person who brutally assaults her best friend, even though all the evidence points at her. Iris and Alice start digging around to find two other persons Helen mentioned who may be involved in the crime. They realize Rebecca’s assault may be connected to the history of the castle and events that took place 80 years ago.

Officer Thompson sniffs around the girls to prevent them from interfering with his case, but Team Agatha has no intention of stopping, even though they put their lives in more dangerous situations than before.

Overall, I’m rooting for this series, and I have to admit I relate to Iris a little more. I enjoyed spending time in their Castle Cove universe, and I’m looking forward to reading more adventures of these genius girls!

Many thanks to NetGalley and Random House Publishers for sharing this exciting book's digital reviewer copy with me in exchange for my honest thoughts.

The Night in Question is the second book in the Agatha's series. Alice and Iris are back to solve another mystery. One of their classmates gets hurt at the school dance, which is the same place where in the 1940s film star Mona Moody was murdered. No one knows who murdered Mona. Alice and Iris are determined to find out what happened to their classmate and Mona.

I was a little disappointed with this book. I really enjoyed the first one and I was looking forward to reading this one. I don't think it was as good as the first one. I still enjoyed the mystery aspect of this book. I also liked how it picked up right where the last book took off. But I found myself not as invested in this story as the other one. I still would suggest this one. I did like this book. I just wish the plot was a little better. But I would suggest this one and this series.

Thank you to the authors, NetGalley, and Random House for the ARC of this book.

This was a lot of fun.

I'm really glad that The Agathas is a series. I not only love Alice and Iris, but their friends too. I was glad to see all of them back for this book.

Alice and Iris are both already interested in a murder that happened a long time ago. Actress Mona Moody had an accidental fall, but neither of them believe it. They have a dance at Levy Castle which is where Mona died. When an attempted murder happens, Park gets accused. She was in the room with the weapon. But Alice and Iris don't believe she did it. They start looking into who it could be. There are multiple secret passages in the castle and people could come and go unnoticed if they know about them. While looking into this attack, they are pushed in ways that bring them back to Mona's death. They need to solve the past case in order to understand this attack.

The pacing was great and I love that there were two mysteries this time. I hope that we'll get more books in the near future. Please make sure you know that the trigger warnings from book one should carry over to book two.

I gave this book 4 1/2 stars rounded up to 5 on Goodreads.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for my earc.

Than you Netgalley, Kathleen Glasgow, Liz Lawson, and Random House for the eARC.

Another fun installment in The Agathas series. An interesting case that ties the death of an actress in the 1940s to the 2023 attack of a Castle Cove student at the Sadie Hawkins Dance. I really enjoyed the way this fleshed out some of the side characters a little more. Especially Neil. We stan Neil and his cool Archivist mother.
