Iris Adams and Alice Ogilvie. Name a better duo?! The Agatha’s series are the best books I’ve read in a long time. You’ll fall in love with iris’s sarcasm and Alice’s wit. They are two opposites who became bestfriends while solving mysteries in castle cove. This book follows iris and Alice with the help of the zoners attempting to uncover the truth of the attempted murder on a local teen. I loved everything about this, it’s better than the first book.

The first book in The Agathas series introduced an unsolved Castle Cove mystery involving a film star named Mona Moody. I love that this second book explores more of what happened to her.

I enjoyed the number of female characters and the scenes connecting them with one another. It felt natural– I didn’t even notice until looking back at the end of the book. But there are a lot of female characters and a lot of scenes showing connections between them. Female characters are also very often the ones making the bold moves at the forefront of the story.

At the beginning of the story, I struggled a little bit with Alice’s negativity. She’s been estranged from her old friend group and feels pretty hostile toward them. She has some pretty unflattering thoughts about them, and after a while, it started to feel pretty mean. At one point, she finds an unconscious girl who’s been severely injured, and instead of caring that she could die without help, she rushes off after a potential suspect. I think the idea was that she’s kind of an impulsive person who can get laser-focused on one thing and sort of ignore everything else. And that makes some sense, but it felt kind of cold to me.

Iris’s empathy and vulnerability balanced out my feelings about Alice, though. And as the story progressed, Alice warmed and experienced some vulnerability of her own. I enjoyed the relationship between them quite a bit.

I’m not a super experienced mystery reader, but I thought the pacing of the mystery here was excellent. I’ve read books where the last few chapters wind up the story in a mad rush that leaves me feeling dizzy. None of that here. The elements came together in ways that raised the intensity without making me feel overwhelmed by the speed at which things unfolded. All in all, I thought it was very nicely done.

Would I continue this series? Absolutely. I really enjoyed this one and how it tied together past and present.

Another fantastic book in The Agatha’s series! I loved diving back into the town of Castle Cove and solving mysteries with Iris and Alice. I really enjoyed the older mystery mixed in with the current mystery. We’ll written and highly enjoyable! I can not wait for more books in this series!

Alice and Iris are back! This time they are caught up in an attack/attempted murder while they are attending a school dance and to clear a friend's name they must do some detective work. This was a very enjoyable Agatha Christie-esque read. There were so many things left open in the end, I can't wait for a book 3!

When I was a kid I loved The Nancy Drew books this series reminds me a lot of those books. Part light and breezy and part intriguing mystery. There's much to love here. The chemistry between friends Alice and Iris is delightful. The writing is gorgeous. And the plot fast paced. Loved the Agatha Christie references. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this

I loved The Agathas, and I loved The Night in Question. It contains a solid mystery, a fun side mystery, and lots of great literary moments woven in. I think this series has the potential to get younger readers invested in Agatha Christie and other mystery authors, which really excites me. I hope there is a book 3!

I received an advance copy. All thoughts are my own.

Alice and Iris are back with their Agatha Christie-inspired detective skills in this follow-up to The Agathas!
Last fall, Castle Cove was rocked by the shocking murder of Brooke Donovan. Unlikely duo Iris and Alice were able to crack the case, and now have a taste for detective work.

But Brooke’s murder wasn’t the first mysterious death in Castle Cove. In the 1940s, movie star Mona Moody died at Levy Castle, and though it was ruled an accident, rumors continue to circulate. So when their school dance takes place at the infamous castle, Alice can’t help but poke around.

But instead of finding clues, Alice stumbles upon the aftermath of a brutal assault. And while the police rule it an open and shut case, Alice and Iris aren’t so sure. They know from their experience in the fall that things are not always as they seem. In order to find the truth, Alice and Iris, along with their trusty friends, decide to band together once again. However, they soon find that to solve this case, they must also uncover what happened at Levy Castle all those years ago. Will they be able to solve the case that has haunted Castle Cove for decades?

I just love these books so much. I am a huge Agatha Christie fan and I LOVED The Agathas. I think this is a really solid follow-up, as it explores what the two feel after solving Brooke’s murder. Alice feels accomplished for solving the case, but she’s still mourning her former best friend. Similarly, Iris is proud of their accomplishment, but can’t help fixating on other cases that have yet to be solved. Iris is also dealing with the trauma of her father’s assault on her and her mother. I really appreciated that this book didn’t gloss over the traumas the characters faced in the previous book. They went THROUGH IT and that is not something they can just gloss over.

There were a couple points that I feel like didn’t get fleshed out quite enough, especially Iris and Cole’s potential relationship and the hinted at love triangle involving Spike. The same goes for Iris’s fixation on the murder of Raf’s cousin (I think?). Maybe that will come in a book three?

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I have a thing for amateur teen sleuths and Agatha Christie-inspired stories, so this series is a winner for me.

The Agatha's are back! After Iris and Alice showed up the Castle Cove police department and bumbled their way through the murder investigation of Alice's friend, Brooke Donovan, they have decided to take on solving another crime. A nother one of Alice's old friends has been attacked, and again the Castle Cove PD is taking the easy way out, not actually solving the crime, but chosing the path of least resistance. Alice and Iris have to look back through the past murder of Mona Moody to solve the recent attempt on Kennedy's life.

I really like how opposite these two are. I enjoy their relationship and I am looking forward to more.

Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is a wonderful sequel to The Agatha’s. I truly enjoyed the references to Agatha Christie’s books and the cast of characters are such fun to hang with. I look forward to the possibility of future books. I recommend this book to everyone whether they have read the first book or not.

I loved The Agathas and was excited to see another book with the same characters. This is a great YA mystery series (I'm hoping there will be a #3 and beyond...) with a crime-solving duo that echo Nancy Drew and of course the characters in Agatha Christie's books. Just like the first novel, there were plenty of improbable circumstances, but it's fun and kept me guessing all the way to the end. It's a series that I'm happy to recommend to my students.

I think I would have enjoyed this more if it wasn’t so Agatha Christie, but I did appreciate the references. Overall it was a pretty good book, but I would have preferred the mystery without the Christie references.

Overall, the pacing was pretty good and the characters were developed okay enough.

Alice and Iris are on another crime-solving spree, despite warnings from all around them to stay out of it. But, how can you leave things alone when you know the person most likely to be accused of the vicious assault on a peer is almost certainly not the perpetrator? Toss in some intrigue regarding the questionable but uninvestigated death of a classic film actress from the 1940s named Mona Moody, and the girls have more questions and leads to pursue than the pair can handle alone. The decisions they subsequently make may be logical in their own minds, but as with any amateur sleuths, they dive headfirst into situations that they should be wiser to avoid.

The authors again effectively blend together the stories from the perspectives of the two main characters, alternating by chapter with Agatha Christie quotes preceding Alice’s chapters and Mona Moody movie quotes leading into those featuring Iris. My only concern, which was similar to the one I had in The Agathas, is that the authors’ teen voice is at times just so slightly off, which as a high school teacher made me wince as I know that it will make some teens cringe. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the story and teens who like to read mysteries will too.

Thank you to Random House Children's, Delacorte Press, Netgalley, and the authors for early access to this solid sequel.

While I found this to be a solidly fun and entertaining read, it just didn't grab me the same way the first book did. I enjoyed watching Iris and Alice work to solve who attacked Kennedy and solve the mystery of who killed Mona Moody but it seemed like thier relationship had taken a step backwards.

The mystery, well both mysteries were solid and I had no idea what was going to happen one moment to the next, or who the bad guy was going to end up being. It was intense, and suspenseful in all the right moments, and I still love all the Agatha Christy references.

Don’t you just love it when the sequel is just as good as book 1!

Alice and Iris are back and solving another crime, an attempted murder this time that may or may not be connected to a couple of mysterious deaths from the 40s. I love the characters of Alice and Iris and the fact that we got to know a little more background about them, and their friend group, in this book. The mystery itself was intriguing and kept me hooked until the very end. I was able to guess who the culprit was but I still had a great time. As always, the agatha christie quotes and references were such a fun addition!

Things to look forward to:
-teen girls crime solving duo
-lots of Agatha Christie references
-not one, but two, separate mysteries and murders
-the sudden appearance of a baby kitten
-old hollywood movie stars and secrets

Cant wait for book 3!!

I remember finding out about the Agathas when Liz posted the deal announcement back in 2021 (i think?) and being really excited to read it because it was being pitched as Veronica Mars meets Agatha Christie and that hooked me right in (VM is my fave show ever ever). Then i remember being sad when i was declined for an ARC of the first book, then reading it the week it came out and loving it so much. So, imagine how happy i was when i was approved for an ARC of the sequel, one of my most anticipated releases of this year, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint! I think i maybe even liked better than the first one.

Iris and Alice's friendship kept on flourishing since the first book and i liked how they were there for each other!
Also, i really liked the Mona Moody mystery aspect of the book, the whole movie starlet gone too soon.
The whole mystery aspect of the book was done well and it wasn't really that predictable (i mean, i read a lot of this kind of books and also write, so i notice foreshadowing and plot stuff, i can't help it), it managed to suprise me a bit.
I hope we get a third book because the romantic in me wants to see my favorite pairings get together!!

I really suck writing reviews but i liked this book a lot and i recommend it for fans of Karen M. McManus, Kara Thomas and Agatha Christie in a if it was YA kind of way.

Crossing my fingers for a third one, and thanks to NetGalley and Random House for the e-galley!.

The “Agathas” are back. Having learned their investigative skills from Agatha Christie’s greatest detectives. The odd couple friends of Alice and Iris are once again going to need to put their sleuthing skills to the test. The latest case will have them looking back into another very old case. I love the way Alice and Iris play off each other, how their individual strengths compliment each other. This is another fun, well plotted mystery. I look forward to seeing what authors Kathleen Glasgow and Liz Lawson throw at Iris and Alice next. Thanks to Random House Children's, Delacorte Press and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an eARC of The Night in Question.

What I love about this series: the feminist bent, the Veronica Mars coastal California vibe, and of course, the Agatha Christie inspiration, though Agatha appreciation wasn't as much of a thing in this follow-up to The Agathas.

Second books in series, especially mystery series, can be tricky.

One of my favorite parts of the first book was the prickly relationship between popular girl Alice Ogilvy and her more down-to-earth tutor and classmate, Iris Adams. In this second book, the girls are friends (at least more friendly?) and while I'm all for teamwork (and friendship), I missed some of their former enmity.

Second, and maybe this is a problem of an adult reading a young adult book, I really could have used a bit more recap of book one incorporated into the plot. Or a character list, at least.

I also felt like The Night in Question took a while to get going. The last quarter of the book was really fun and much more fast-paced.

So I remain a huge fan of this series, and it looks like, from the authors' interview after the book ends, that there will be a book three, so I am excited about that and will definitely try it.

This is the second book in The Agathas series and it does not disappoint! Iris Adams and Alice Ogilvie are on on the case again; trying to solve an assault/robbery that happens the night of their Sadie Hawkins dance at Levy Castle.
After solving Brooke Donovan's murder, the 2 young Miss Marples are once again thrown into a mystery involving old film star Mona Moody and her mysterious fall from the balcony of Levy Castle. A more pressing question would be who attacked and almost killed Rebecca Kennedy the night of the dance, while everyone was stuck inside due to a storm and a mudslide? The police feel like they've caught the perpetrator and Alice is their star witness. However, even seeing Helen Park standing over the unfortunate Kennedy only leads to more questions than answers. Alice and Iris are once again on the case! (BTW, Castle Cove needs a new PD.)
