This book has cute rhymes about animals. There is nothing that jumps out at me as new or unique. This book is very simple and straightforward.

A fun book of rhymes and pictures, about the animals. What they like and do rhymes and the pictures add the fun. An easy book for early readers to learn about rhyming words as well.

What Cat Likes Best: Rhymes for Children. By Erwin Moser. 2023. NorthSouth Books (ARC eBook).

This story is very lyrical, consisting of rhyming couplets and cute illustrations that will surely entertain young children. Each two-page spread depicts a different animal and a pairing couplet that expresses the animal’s behavior or habitat. I can understand why Moser’s books have been translated and kept in print.

What Cat Likes Best is an adorable animal themed rhyming children's book. My 3 and 5 year old children really enjoyed this one. They LOVE cats and we all thought the illustrations were very cute. We've previously read What Hedgehog Likes Best and What Bear Likes Best and they liked this one just as much.

This would be a great book for new readers.

Thank you to NetGalley and NorthSouth Books Inc for allowing me to be an early reader. All opinions are my own.

What Cat Likes Best by Erwin Moser

We meet more animals in this cute book.

Cat, of course and we find out what cat likes best.

We meet a polar bear, many cats and even a sloth!
The ravens are back in this book.

So another hit for the children who enjoy the short rhymes and cute pictures.

A quick nice little rhyming book.
The illustrations were well done.

4***

Thank you NetGalley, the author and publisher

the cover is a little deceiving, we thought it was a book fully about cats from the cover. With that being said this was a lovely rhyming book about many different animals. Great details, facts and statements about the animals and good rhythm. My daughter is 7 and was able to read this book outloud to me with no problems.

I received a copy of this book through Netgalley. This is my honest review.

This is a rhyming book that basically just goes through a lot of different animals and what they do. It was translated from German to English, so I imagine some liberties were taken to make the rhymes work after translation, but with the exception of like two pages with longer descriptions, there were really no hiccups in the rhyming. It is very short with each page only having a brief sentence and picture, so reading it multiple times will at least not take up a lot of time.

The illustrations had a more classic illustration feel, making me think of the Little Golden Books from my childhood. Some of them were rather fun and whimsical, depicting what the animals were doing (like the cockroaches having tea). Overall I give this book 3.87 out of 5 stars.

I expected more from this. We certainly get decent enough portraits of a lot of animals, from sloth to panda to elephant to cat and mouse, but with just one line beneath that's part of a rhyming couplet. And that's not really enough to call this "rhymes for children" when it's only one poem with neither beginning nor end. Moreover, all told the insight into what said animals actually like is a bit slim at the best of times. It's a perfectly pleasant diversion – for all of five minutes, and then we're on to something better. Three stars for a book that really shows how the verdict "it's fine" can be damning with faint praise.

Very sweet book with calming rhymes and beautiful illustrations. My elementary-aged kids love animals, and books like these were their favorites when they were small. This book took me back to reading to them in the rocking chair before bed. The rhymes are soothing and there’s just one line per page, which keeps kids interested and parents happy! Really enjoyed this one. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!

I requested this book based on the title and cover art because my 4 year old is an absolute cat lover. After reading, we still have zero idea what Cat might like best.
The illustrations are nice and the rhymes are clever, but having zero idea that the book is actually a sequel of a series, the book isn't what I was anticipating based on the cover and title - very misleading. I'd recommend it for kids under 3 years old.

Thank you to NorthSouth Books and NetGalley for this ARC

A book I chose to read since of the title and the nonchalant puss that just put itself out there. Unfortunately after reading the book I still don't know what the cat likes best as he was only used to mention that the cats are waiting for tea.

What Cat Likes Best is a small book that has a rhyming set of sentences on a two-page spread. Each page is dedicated to a different animal whether it may be a walrus, a camel or even a penguin just to name a few. And then from there each rhyme provides the reader with some information on that animal whether a factual behavioral trait, a very basic description of said animal or even just an action summary.

The best part about this book was the illustrations for they are brightly colorful, full of detail and with animal characters that not only are realistic in a cartoon sort of way but also full of personality. And so even if your child isn't charmed by the lack of the story they may still enjoy flipping through the pictures at least once.

'What Cat Likes Best' is a collection of animals and what they like best in rhyme. "The walrus dreams of distant lands. The Camel loves the desert sand." Simple, lyrical with nice illustrations. Good for children ages 1 - 3. If your little one loves animals and rhymes, this is a good book to add to your collection.

I accessed a digital review copy of this book from the publisher.
This book is filled with rhymes about various animals. It is suited for the younger reader. The book is short enough to read in one quick sitting and each rhyme is also short. The illustrations are cute and suited for each rhyme.

Such a cute alphabet, animal rhyming book. With whimsical rhymes that stay with you and kids might repeat and repeat, and fun heartwarming illustrations. A keeper.

This was a cute little book. The only thing I didn’t like about it was there was no lesson to be learned from it. It would be best for 1 and under.

It was good rhymes, and i think the kids would like it because there’s a different animals so they’re likely give their fully interest and attention on the pic illustration.

Thank you Netgalley and NorthSouth Books for the copy

I liked all the different animals and the association with each. It was great for my daughter to build the connections and expand her vocabulary in a relatable way.

Well, do not expect this rhyme book to be all about cats. I have to tell the young readers this.

The artstyle is basic beautiful and I love how minimal the writing is for such very young readers picture rhyme book. It introduces the birds and the animals well I feel.

Thank you, NorthSouth Books Inc, for the advance reading copy.

Cute little book of short two sentance poems, Has short, cute poems with simple phrases. They rhyme from page to page. This book is a very easy read and takes less than 5 minutes to get through so it is perfect for little kids with very short attention spans. It is also ok for older kids who are just learning how to read but since there isn't much to the story it's not as enticing for them to stay interested. My new reader (who is 5) complained that there were not enough phrases about cats because that's what was on the cover.

This would be a good travel book, bedtime book, or doctors office book! Short and sweet and can be read over and over again in a space where you need to keep a little one occupied.

Recommended ages: 2-3 years old
