Gripping right from the start it was twisty and unpredictable. Well paced and a good amount of mystery.

This was a great story that I really enjoyed reading. From the start, the story drew me in. I just love how the author created a great sense of atmosphere. It contains some great edge-of-your-seat moments. This is only the second book I have read by this author but it certainly won't be my last. I can't wait to read more. The characters were great and realistic. They were interesting and well-developed. Its storyline was intriguing. I loved the way the author includes nature and the surrounding environment in this story. It was fun reading about a park ranger trying to solve a mysterious death. It certainly kept my attention throughout. I certainly recommend reading this book. Although part of a series it works great as a standalone novel.

So much praise goes out to the author and publishers for creating this wonderful story. I can't wait to read more from this author.

Storm Watch by C.J. Box

I received an advance review copy for free thanks to NetGalley and Aria & Aries and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Blurb

Wyoming Game Warden Joe Pickett investigates a mysterious death at a secret remote high-tech facility in this riveting new novel from #1 New York Times bestseller C.J. Box.

When a prominent University of Wyoming professor goes missing, authorities are stumped. That is, until Joe Pickett makes two surprising discoveries while hunting down a wounded elk on his district as an epic spring storm descends upon him.

First, Joe finds the professor's vehicle parked on a remote mountainside. Then he finds the professor's frozen and mutilated body. When he attempts to learn more, his investigation is obstructed by Federal agents, extreme environmentalists, and Governor Colter Allen.

Meanwhile, Joe's associate Nate Romanowski is rebuilding his falconry company, financing this through crypto mining. Nate is then approached by a shadowy group of local militant activists who are gaining in power and influence, and demanding that Wyoming join other western states and secede from the union – by force, if necessary. They ask Nate to throw in his lot with them, but he's wary. Should he trust them, or is he being set up?

My Opinion

It has been a while since I have read a book from the Joe Pickett series and with this one I am definitely reading the series out of order - but for me it was easy to follow. As with all the other books I have read by C.J. Box there is a lot going on in this book and Joe is definitely able to get himself in a lot of trouble whilst investigating shady goings on in his region.

I really enjoy this series and this was a great addition.

Rating 4/5

Another brilliant book in the ‘Joe Pickett’ series. Every book in this series has been brilliant, but they seem to get better and better. Great twists and turns with governor Rulon making a comeback in this story. At least Missy gets her cumuppence in this book (about time)
Now just the wait until the next book comes out

Even if it's the 23rd in the series it was the first book i read by this author and thoroughly enjoyed it.
The're a fascinating setting, well developed and interesting characters, and tightly knitted and fast paced plot that kept me guessing.
Can't wait to read the next one.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this arc, all opinions are mine

Joe is out looking for a wounded elk and hoping he can catch up to it before a huge storm hits. While tracking the elk he comes across a vehicle where you usually wouldn't find one then not long after he finds a building due to the noise it is emitting. He decides.to take a closer look and finds a.dead man jammed into a fan that is running on the building. He takes what he has to the higher ups but the F.B.I. soon takes over leaving him out. Meanwhile his friend Nate is being approached by a local militant group in hopes of recruiting him. The two friends soon realize that everything might be connected. Dive in and see now the two deal with their problems while a huge storm rages on! This was an exciting read that had me on edge the whole way through, I can't wait to see what happens next.

Another brilliant instalment in one of the best series out there. Together with Don Winslow and Daniel Silva, CJ Box is my absolute favourite author and he never disappoints. I can’t wait to read the next book. Highly recommended.

Thanks to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for the copy.

Game warden Joe Pickett is on the hunt for a wounded elk but discovers a body instead. It’s the body of a professor from the University of Wyoming. Joe is then called to the office of the governor and is told under no circumstances to investigate the case. That doesn’t sit well with Joe and he ignores everyone including the feds on his hunt for justice.
At the same time Nate Romanowski is starting to rebuild his falconry business when he gets a visit from an activist asking to join a militant group looking to gain power. He is interested, but also wary that he could be being set up.
It’s not long before these two friends realise they are involved in the same thing but coming from different angles. A storm is brewing and for the first time they could be on different sides. Will this turn out to be the ultimate test of their friendship?
Once again CJ Box has shown why he is one of the finest writers around today.
He has a wonderful backdrop to his stories, with a brilliant main character in Joe Pickett, who has great integrity and a partner who is a total badass. Along with Box’s knowledge of Wyoming they are a perfect combination.
Storm Watch is one of his best books to date and the Joe Pickett series is as good as it gets. Just outstanding.

Another exciting episode in the Joe Picket series with the gruesome discovery of a body in the midst of a severe snowstorm leads to a conspiracy plot where Joe is blocked at every turn. From political manoeuvring to Chinese spies to dodgy supremacists it all leads to a super violent climax that satisfies all the twists and turns. Good fun.

In his new Joe Pickett novel, C.J. Box again manages to incorporate many of the already familiar characters from his earlier novels into an exciting plot. Joe Pickett fans will get their money's worth as well as Nate Romanowski afficianados.

Each Pickett novel is a bit like visiting with good friends.

Thematically, the novel covers everything from the everyday life of a game warden to Libertarians to cryptomining and American politics.

C.J. Box skillfully weaves several storylines into a novel full of suspense and brings everything to a skillful and sometimes surprising end.

In my opinion, "Storm Watch" is the best Joe Pickett novel so far and I'm already looking forward to the next volume of the series, even if the wait for its release is unfortunately still far in the future.

A big thank you to the publisher for also providing booksellers in faraway Germany with a Netgalley advance reading copy !

A C J Box novel is like opening the door into a world which is totally different to most peoples way of life. The descriptions of the terrain, the people, the lifestyle and the threats, both natural and man made, make these novels both thrilling and informative..
Although this is not my normal reading genre, I always look forward to catching up with Joe Pickett, his family and the political and moral situations he finds himself in. Caring for wildlife and the environment is a complicated job but this time spies, technology and corruption make Joe’s job even harder.

Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. Joe Pickett is working when he finds the body of a professor. He is trying to figure out what happened, but is stonewalled in every direction. Nate has a different set of issues. He is being asked to join a group, that he is unsure of. This book took my breathe away.

This is another fantastic entry into the Joe Pickett series. This book grabbed my attention from the start. Each point in the story pulled me in, it's fast paced, and it's great to revisit these characters. This series makes me want to visit Wyoming. Can't wait for the next one!

Another great book by C. J. Box. Held my interest from the first page to the last. Interesting cast of characters in this book.

This was my 1st book in this series and it definitely won't be the last! It was a really good read, it was well paced and the plot just flowed really naturally. There weren't any plot holes or any rushing, it all just felt paced really well to come tk a natural conclusion. I loved the characters! They weren't clichéd or predictable and they made human choices rather than putting themselves in stupid situations for the same of the storyline. I wasn't sure what I was expecting when I started but it definitely wasn't anything quite like this. I usually steer more towards domestic thrillers but I actually really loved this one and can't wait to begin the series from book 1

This is an excellent series featuring Wyoming Game Warden Joe Pickett. Book 23 is still as fresh as the first in the series, with it's beautiful descriptive passages and clever plot line. I really like the character development, it's like catching up with family you don't see very often. I am not too sure about the conspiracy theory and the corrupt politicians, with a few home grown terrorists thrown in for good measure but overall, I enjoyed the read. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.

In this #23 of the series, I think the pace is actually a little faster than before, but still slow and efficient. The style fits very well with the setting, as do the characters. The plot is a little bit over the top (I hope), but it makes the story very entertaining.

A big thank you to Head of Zeus and NetGalley for providing me with this ARC for my honest review. This book comes out on Feb. 28th so mark your calendars😊
What can I say I love C.J. Box's books, he's one of my favorite authors and is an autobuy for me. I've been reading the series from the beginning and Joe Pickett and Nate Romanowski are definitely 2 of my favorite book characters. I enjoyed reading this one as much as all the others😊 Storm Watch is the 23rd book in the series but can be read as a standalone.
Wyoming Game Warden Joe Pickett is at it again. Stumbling upon things out of his jurisdiction while doing his job. But he can't just let things go when someone tells him to look away. He needs to pursue it with the help of his family and friends, he gets the job done.
Just like the other Joe Pickett novels, I couldn't put it down. I needed to see what Joe would do next, especially with the big snowstorms rolling in. This book had murder, mystery, and suspense to keep you turning pages. The setting of Wyoming, my favorite state, is an added bonus and the author actually transports you there. I loved this book and would highly recommend it.

Joe is such an interesting and credible character and the author’s ability to take the reader right into the heart of the environment makes for compelling reading. This is part of a series but stands alone and is, I think, one of the better mysteries of the series,
