I received an arc copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for my honest opinion of it. This book is told in parts by Izzy and Beth. I enjoyed this book but was able to figure out the characters early in the book. It was fast paced but also a little far fetched at times.

Lizzy:
She only knows Zachary for 3 months and she quits her job and moves in with him - before they get engaged? That seems..risky. She seemed like a reasonable person int he first chapter but boy did she change quickly! Just completely throwing herself into a relationship, before she really knew Zachary.

Beth:
I can't tell if Ian is hiding something or if there is some other reason for the weird tension between Beth and Ian. They're getting the cabin ready to sell so they can have IVF so I would assume that everything is okay between them but it's hard to tell.

44% of the way through the book and I can't tell how Beth and Lizzy's stories are related - so I'm excited to find out. Both stories so far are good!

74% in and I'm wondering if Lizzy and Beth are the same person? Lizzy's story comes first and then Beth's? They both killed their father and Beth's name is Elizabeth...

Such a good book! It's been a while since I've read a book that's actually kept me in suspense. So many twists and turns! Definitely a book I would recommend!

Perfect thriller to start on a Friday night and have finished before the weekend is over! This book grabbed me quickly with a shocking and very interesting start, and kept me reading until the very end. The book follows the story of two women, each with their own set of serious problems. One is married to what she thought would be the husband of her dreams and the other is in the middle of nowhere, with several mysterious happenings unfolding since their arrival.

Overall, I loved this book!! I also really liked how the author jumped right into the plot, no slow burn thriller here!

Thank you NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of this book.

Beth and Ian have a great marriage. They take a trip to his parents old cabin in the woods. The plan is to tidy the cabin ready for sale to raise money for IVF treatment.
Lizzie is the perfect wife to Zachary. She does everything he asks and is careful to never upset him. She’s the perfect hostess and follows all his requests to the letter.
This book is told from the point of view of both the female characters in alternating chapters. The suspense builds as we get to know them and wonder how are they connected.

This was a great read.

With such a fast pace of story, I'm not at all surprised to have enjoyed this thriller - excellent escapism!

There two storylines told in alternating chapters, each as intriguing as the other. In hindsight, I should have seen how the two storylines would come together, but I'm glad I didn't.

I really liked the ending, but I would have liked to see some aspects of the story elaborated on.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'You Can't Hide' by Emily Shiner.

Read and reviewed for Zooloo's Book Tours, NetGalley, Emily Shiner and Inkubator Books.

Publication date 19th February 2023.

This is the third book I have read by this author. I have also read 'The Caretaker' and 'I'm Following You' which I would highly recommend.

I was originally drawn to this book by its eye catching gorgeous cover and intriguing sounding synopsis and title. I am also a huge fan of Emily and of this is half as good as her 'The Caretaker' and 'I'm Following You' it is guaranteed to be a page turner!! I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Inkubator Books. I have yet to read a book published by Inkubator Books that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of 32 chapters. The chapters are short to medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is based in Alabama and North Carolina, USA 🇺🇸

This book is written in first person perspective and the main protagonists are Lizzy and Beth. The benefits of books written in first person perspective are as long as they are well written it makes you feel that you are being spoken to by the protagonist and it can create more of a bond between yourselves and them. If there are several protagonists you also get to see more of what is going on.

Emily does it yet again!! I genuinely done think she can make a book that I don't love!! Love, love, loved this book!!!! Absolutely gripping edge of your seat page turner!!!

This book is extremely well written with vivid descriptions that really set the scene and put you in the storyline. The cover and synopsis suit the book perfectly.

The storyline was captivating and addictive from the first page until the last and I was completely invested in it. It was absolutely rammed full of lies, secrets, tension, twists, suspense and everything you could ask for in a page turning psychological thriller. I just could not put this book down and finished it in one sitting. The atmosphere of an isolated cabin was absolutely perfect for the storyline that makes the hair on your arms stand on edge. It was extremely fast paced with something constantly happening to keep you addicted. Every time I kept telling myself one more chapter the one I was in ended at a point where there was no way I could stop reading so I absolutely devoured it in one sitting!! It was absolutely ram packed with mystery, secrets, tension, suspense and absolutely everything you could ask for in a psychological thriller. I absolutely love Emily's books and am guaranteed to be shocked every time I pick one up which is not an easy feat considering how many books I read a year so a HUGE CONGRATULATIONS Emily!!! One of the things I love about her books is that they can also be quite thought provoking and always end with MASSIVE BOMBSHELLS that I absolutely love and never do see coming. Emily's evocative writing drags you deep into the storyline from the first sentence to the very last and will keep you up until the very last word! THAT ladies and gentleman is a true sign of an absolute must read. I absolutely loved the ending which was definitely an unexpected twist which is just one of the reasons I love Emily's books, she manages to get me every single time!! I've said it before about Emily's books and I shall say it again!! I would absolutely LOVE to see this turned into a movie and would wait up all night to get tickets to watch it!!

An intriguing and clever page turner that will keep you up all night!!

I hope your busy writing your next book Emily as I just cannot wait to see what bombshell twist and explosive storyline you have up your sleeve for us next!!!!

Do not start this book until you have cleared your schedules as you will not be able to put it down!!

The characters were all realistic and strong and I was completely invested in them throughout. I love the fact that we got to see what was happening from the points of view of both Lizzy and Beth and to know why they were doing what they were and how they were feeling throughout. Emily weaves their chapters together with perfect timing until it all comes together with an explosive BANG!! It also explains absolutely everything which leaves no question unanswered at the end which is a pet hate of mine!! This also really helps the reader understand them more making them more realistic to the reader. I really clicked with most of the characters apart from one who I could not stand and that I had a bad feeling about from the start after noticing some red herrings. I thought they needed some serious psychological help and had no sympathy for them and what happened. I felt sorry for 'Lizzy' by and 'Beth' for what they went through along with Ian who I really liked. Unfortunately, I really can not say anymore as I don't want to spoil it for future readers. You will just have to pick up your copy to find out who is right, who was wrong and what happens to them all and trust me you will not regret it!!! Regardless of what I thought about who, each character worked perfectly to make this page turning psychological thriller!!!

Congratulations Emily on yet ANOTHER huge success. This is why you are in my favourite 5 authors list!! Here's to your next success 🥂!!

Overall an absolutely unputdownable, action packed, intriguing psychological thriller that will keep you up at night on the edge of your seat with a pounding heart!!

Everyone has a past but sometimes people go to extraordinary lengths to conceal it. The past is never truly hidden through.
The story appears to tell two different stories at the same . This us a very good hook as you read on wanting to finish each story and see how and if they combine. Good character development and many surprising twists and turns make this a good solid read. It finished too quickly for me. I loved the way the writer made the characters reflective of life and covered the questions that appeared in my head .
Highly recommended for a good read. Thank you netgallery and inkubator books for my arc

This was such a whirlwind, not giving anything away until the very end. I loved the dual POV's I felt that it added to the suspense and kept me wondering how everything would come together and what the link between Lizzy and Beth was. I also liked how the book didn't hold back with the darker elements, I truly felt scared for both women and was on the edge of my seat. It's incredibly fast paced and the book jumps straight in so I never got bored and could not put it down I just had to know how it was going down. This is my first book by Emily Shiner and I really enjoy her writing style its very to the point, almost blunt, allowing the reader to fully fear the terror instead of being blinded by flowery prose.

SPOILERS: The biggest thing I liked though was how although they may be victims they are allowed to experience full feminine range which usually gets watered down and instead is very refreshing - and she is also not then labelled as crazy (although she might be a little bit) she is generally just trying to protect herself and her husband which is a unique twist on usual psychological thrillers.

Wow. Okay, I know I’m a little late reviewing this book but holy crap I was so engrossed! Like from the beginning it was amazing and I couldn’t stop!

Thank you netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book! This book was right up my alley as far as twisted and psycho husbands go. LOL This is my first book by Emily Shiner and I like her no-fuss writing style. I can't wait to read another book from her. I found that the book kept me engaged and find myself reaching out for this book and not making excuses not to read it. That's a good sign for me. Although, as the chapters progressed, the storyline became predictable. I also wished that the ending could have been more sinister. The book does give an opportunity for book 2 and maybe Emily can make the next book even darker. There's a lot of us that are big fans of unsettling books if I may say. LOL This was definitely a good read and I will recommend.

Well there's not too much I can say about this one because if I say too much I will definitely be spoiling the amazingly fast paced physcological thriller within. What I will tell you is that I have locked all my doors and windows and I'm never coming out. This is my favourite type of physcological thriller it has left me terrified and I was up reading it into the wee hours of the morning. The plot is woven beautifully and the characters are so horrible and make you angry so that you have to keep reading too find out how it ends for them. I love Emily Shiner books and this one is a favourite. Be prepared to go on a paranoid ride. Loved it!

This book about a woman trapped, forced to be the "perfect" wife and another trapped at a cabin in a snow storm. The book goes back and forth between the two and both leave you wanting to know more and on the edge of your seat!! This book is amazing! I will be looking up this author for more. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me read a copy of this arc.

You Can't Hide is a fantastic thriller told in 2 timelines that eventually come together. I had trouble putting this one down as both timelines are riveting! Beth and Ian are on their way to Ian's family cabin as they want to clean it up to sell it. They want to have a child and Beth has a problem so they need the money for IVF. They had to leave their car and hike into the cabin as the day they're arriving there is a heavy snowstorm. They take the minimum from the car because the hike is long and the snow is really coming down. It's hard to walk and it's so cold.

As Ian and Beth approach the cabin, a gruesome sight is in the path. Somehow a dead deer is laying in the hiking path and it looks as if it's been shot. Ian tells Beth that hunters frequent these woods and that the deer must have made it this far after being shot. He suggests that they carry the deer to the cleaning table outside of the cabin as they don't have much for food. They left what they brought in the car because they couldn't carry it this far with the snow. Beth is grossed out but decides to help Ian. Ian stays outside to clean the deer while Beth goes inside the cabin to get a fire started.

As Beth walks into the cabin she notices there's a newspaper dated today on the table and a cat comes out to greet her. The cat has a collar on and her name is Mya. She crumples up the newspaper to help start the fire, but as soon as she tosses a few paper balls in it ignites. There are warm coals in the fireplace as if the fire has just gone out, What is going on? No one is supposed to be here. Beth starts to get an uneasy feeling that she might not be alone. She goes to the front door to call to Ian, but she can't see him and he can't hear her calling for him due to the wind and snow. Beth builds a fire and gets it warm in the cabin. She looks around to make sure no one else is here. She doesn't see anyone else in the small cabin, but knows that someone has been living here.

There's a pounding on the door and then Ian yells out for Beth to let him in. He is freezing and carrying the deer meat to prepare for dinner. Beth lets him in and tells him what she found and about the cat. Ian seems to think that the caretaker he hired, Ryan, is the person that has been staying here. He's usually only at the cabin on the weekend, but maybe he stayed longer this time due to the storm. Ian admits he doesn't actually know Ryan, but checked him out, and hired him online. He's been taking care of the cabin for awhile now and he knew that Beth and Ian were coming this week. Why would he be here if he knew they were coming? Is Ryan really a good guy or does he want something?

Things get very tense as the lights go out and power is lost in the cabin. Ian decides to go to the bedroom to sleep while Beth is uneasy and decides to sleep on the sofa by the fire. She wants to keep the fire going as well as keep watch for whoever has been living here. Beth is not sure that it's Ryan. They have no cell service at the cabin and no Internet. The next morning Ian tells Beth he's going outside to try to hook up the generator. Beth doesn't like being left alone as she thinks she saw someone at the edge of the woods watching the cabin. Ian says he'll be just outside and not to worry. Ian gets the generator going and power is restored, but only for a brief time as there was very little gas in the tank.

There's someone on the porch and they're trying to get in the door. They start pounding on the door. Beth and Ian go to the door and it's a huge man saying that he's Ryan and to let him in. He says he has been staying here and that Mya is his cat. It's weird though because Mya doesn't seem to like him at all. Ryan says he got stuck in the storm while out hunting and stayed overnight in a cave. A cave? Really? There's something about this guy that Beth finds familiar. His eyes are angry and when he smiles the smile never makes it to his eyes. Is Ryan who he says he is? Who is Beth really? Has Beth's past finally caught up to her? What will Ian think if he finds out what's in Beth's past? Are Beth and Ian in danger? Who will make it out of the cabin alive?

You will fly through this book because it is truly unputdownable! I enjoyed the book tremendously and rate it 5 stars. This is my first Emily Shiner book and I look forward to reading many more by her! Wow, what a thrill ride! I'd like to thank NetGalley and Inkubator Books for an advanced copy of You Can't Hide in exchange for a fair review. #YouCantHide

I love Emily Shiner. This was such a great story. I’ve recently found this author but she’s definitely added to my reading list

Many thanks to NetGalley and Inkubator Books for gifting me a digital ARC of the new thriller by Emily Shiner - 4.5 stars rounded up!

Two female characters alternate their stories in this book, and both find themselves in dangerous territory. Beth and her husband, Ian, are headed to far Upstate NY to clear out his deceased parents' cabin. They are hoping to get enough money to pay for IVF treatments. But when they get there, there are signs that someone else is close by too and this person seems to know Beth's secrets. Meanwhile, Lizzie is at home with her very successful physician husband, Zachary. But behind closed doors, all is not as it appears.

Wow - this one had me racing through it to figure out if and how these story lines would intersect. Each chapter stopped at a crucial tense moment, leaving you desperate to get back to it. The atmosphere of the remote cabin in the woods in a snowstorm only added to the tension. Go into this one as blind as possible and enjoy the ride - especially that ending!

This was a pretty quick read and I was entertained throughout. There was a nice amount of detail but not too much.

It was quite easy to spot the parallels between Lizzy and Beth.

It was an almost good read, however, the ‘twist’ was pretty underwhelming.

You Can't Hide by Emily Shiner
🌟🌟🌟🌟/5

When I first saw the cover of this book, I knew I wanted to read it; I love a good "See no evil" vibe. The story did not disappoint either.

The plot here is interesting, the story is told by two different women, but they're each telling a different story with seemingly no connection. Lizzy is a down-on-her-luck waitress in a small town who is rescued from the side of the road by the handsome new doctor in town who sweeps her off her feet. Beth and her husband are planning to sell their vacation cabin in the mountains to pay for their IVF treatment so they set out during a blizzard to get the cabin ready to put on the market.

The story is your standard psychological thriller; both women are harboring secrets that could end their lives as they know them and the author breadcrumbs us with clues along the way. The plot twist at the end was one that I didn't see coming, but all of the pieces to the puzzle had been given to us throughout the text. Perhaps readers without ADHD might have seen it coming but I skimmed right over the connection that would have brought it all together.

This was a fast, light read despite the content. There should definitely be a trigger warning though, there are themes of domestic violence, forced captivity, and some really graphic descriptions of violence that are not for the squeamish. That said, I really liked the story and will probably add some of the author's other works to my TBR.
