You Can't Hide kept me up late at night and pretty much checked all my fear boxes: Narcissism, stalking, remote locations, and psychopathy. I think thrillers speak to people differently based on what terrifies us the most, and this one had no mercy for me!

The story jumps back and forth between Lizzy and Beth, who both find themselves in dangerous situations. Lizzy, in her own home with her husband who is a successful surgeon, and Beth, in a remote cabin in the mountains where she and her husband are preparing the property to sell so they can afford IVF treatments. I don't want to give too many details away because it will ruin everything, but there is high tension on every single page! I was not even in the mood for a thriller when I sat down to read this, and ended up finishing it in one sitting. I literally. could. not. put. it. down. If you want to feel enraged for the FMCs, want to be horrified with how much the "best people in town" can get away with, and have a total "this could be me" feeling, this is the book for you!

Thank you to Netgalley, Emily Shiner, and the publishers at Inkubator Books available for this to read! I want to read everything this author writes now- She really had me hooked at the end of her line and reeled me all the way in. I want more!

I found the start of the book very intriguing I could not see a link between the two stories and I was desperate to work how how the characters tied together. After the 1st third I quickly began to work it all out and I was disappointed after this nothing shocked me. Still an enjoyable quick read however would have preferred something less predictable.

You Can’t Hide is a very quick read. Due to the twist in the story, there are very few details and not much story building. It is a parallel tale of two women that flashes back and forth with each chapter. However, in order to be able to have the reveal, the narrative had to be extremely limited, causing it to lack the depth of great storytelling. The twist is easy to guess pretty early on simply because you’re wondering why there are so few things going on and the characters are so few. It was a good read if you want something light and easy to digest.

Overview: Beth and her husband are trying to get pregnant, and in order to pay for IVF, they decide to sell the old family cabin. Once they arrive to get it all setup, they realize the caretaker has - rather than stopping by on occasion for a night or two as agreed - made himself home there. But Beth quickly realizes he's not who he says, and that this person camping out in their cabin isn't just any stranger, but someone from her past who knows what she did.

My take:

I really enjoyed this book. For the first 25% of the book I was kind of annoyed that I was reading Behind Closed Doors again (could have been copy/pasted honestly), especially after finishing it two days ago and really enjoying it but also vowing never to read it again.

Once the storyline diverged a bit, I was intrigued. The psychopathic husband trope, although used frequently, is very rarely used as in depth and scary as in Behind Closed Doors and You Can't Hide. I honestly kind of liked it better here because the drama with Beth in the woods didn't really start until later in the book, so the ramp up gave me a little break from the super uncomfortable (though very well written) Lizzy chapters.

[I also loved that I didn't "get it" until about 70% of the way through the novel when I started wondering how on earth two women, one locked in a house, the other locked in a cabin, would meet in the last 30% of the novel. And then I was like, "ooh, I wonder how she's going to pull this off." (hide spoiler)]

Overall, this is a solid read for any readers who thought Behind Closed Doors was a little too intense (myself included). I think the two books really go hand in hand - if you want something to make you super uncomfortable for the entire read, go Behind Closed Doors. If you're up for some mild discomfort, with an extra twist or two, and in my opinion, a slightly tougher MC, go You Can't Hide.

Or just do what I did and read both, you won't regret it IMO.

Thanks to Netgalley & Inkubator Books for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

I loved how it started, both from Lizzy’s and Beth’s points of view. The first few chapters read easily and were very engaging and promising. Then Beth started to annoy me and the action at the snowy cabin became super repetitive and stalled—her fear, borderline paranoia, that a certain Ryan is lurking about goes on and on and becomes her sole trait, not to mention that we know from the blurb that she’s going to meet this Ryan (which btw happens 60% into the story), so what’s the whole point?—and her and her husband Ian are totally bland. As for the other POV, I just couldn’t wrap my head around Lizzy’s husband Zachary. Sure, the situation has some Misery vibe to it but Annie Wilkes’s male counterpart failed to convince me. In fact, I didn’t understand him or his actions, not just because he’s a downright cruel madman, but because he lacks purpose and he’s just here for the sake of being the villain of the story. Feels like a black-and-white book: here’s the bad guy, here’s the victim. “I’m no better than him, no better than my father,” Lizzy said, and that about summed it up for me. I didn’t like any character of this story.

This was such a fun read! From the beginning I was hooked. The dual timelines were great and I love how unconnected they were, so it almost felt like you were reading two books before everything came together. This gave me Behind Closed Doors meets secluded cabin in a winter storm and it was so entertaining. With all of that being said, there were definitely some things I didn’t enjoy, one of which being the main character but that was such a small thing compared to everything else. An insanely quick read with an ending that still has me thinking, I highly recommend this one if you’re in a reading slump.

You Can't Hide is a fascinating book with two points of view. Although the subject matter and direction of the book are often covered in other thrillers, the writing style had me at the edge of my seat. My heart was pounding, especially with Iizzy's chapters. I did guess some of the reveals, but it didn't lessen my enjoyment of the book. I found the ending brilliant and unsettling. I recommend and will check out other books by this author.

This was another thriller that just kept me guessing! I thought I had it figured out and another twist would come. I sat down to read a few chapters and ended up finishing the story. It was a great read and I hope to read more by this author.

Review: I found this book to be a little predictable, though well written. It’s hard to say much without giving away one of the “twists” which in my opinion most readers will catch onto quickly. I’m not sure if it was supposed to be as obvious as it was. I know that’s vague but I’d hate to ruin someone else’s reading experience. I liked that the book moved very quickly and never hit a lull, but the ending felt a bit rushed after all the build up. It was a really quick read for me and an enjoyable way to spend an afternoon, but I wasn’t blown away. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC! The book will be available Feb 19, 2023.

Beth isn't as enthusiastic as her husband about their trip into the woods. She's completely onboard with selling his cabin to pay for IVF, but she wants to get it cleaned up and head back to the city as quickly as possible. Ian wants to enjoy his last visit to the family cabin. He's not at all concerned that there are hot coals in the woodstove and a freshly killed deer on the porch. It's just the guy he hired to look after the place. Nothing to worry about. Beth has a LOT to worry about. Ryan, the caretaker, knows all about her past and he's ready to reveal her dark secrets if she doesn't do the unthinkable.

The book alternates chapters between two timelines. Lizzie is trapped in an abusive marriage, literally locked in her own home. Beth loves her husband and is happily looking forward to their future. It's a fast paced, easy to read thriller and I'm pretty sure you're supposed to quickly guess how the two plotlines connect. The interesting part is seeing how things are going to get from point A to point B. It does rely heavily on cliffhangers to keep you turning pages, but both sets of circumstances were interesting enough that I didn't mind that.

You can't Hide is such a great thriller! I loved the "Two person POV". It took me until about halfway through to realize it was the same person. I like how Emily Shiner ties the two stories together and I was not expecting that twist at the end. There was a little bit of a cliffhanger at the end, enough to make you want more but not enough that you can't guess how they will live their lives now. Looking forward to more novels by Emily Shiner in the future! Thank you for letting me read.

Genuinely one of the most gripping, chilling and disturbing psychological thrillers I’ve ever read. The villains are both monsters, but the villain in the narrative featuring Lizzy is truly horrific and made me feel glad to be single! The book was compelling, well-written and definitely a page-turner.

I didn’t connect the dots between the two narratives until the end, and I didn’t see the final twist coming either. I’m looking forward to reading future releases from Emily Shiner.

I absolutely love Emily Shiner! I gave her 4 stars for this book because it was well-written. As usual I could not put down. It kept me guessing until the end. However, I was not happy with the ending. It could just be a personal thing. I hope there is a sequel at some point because the ending was not the end of the story in my opinion.

"You Can't Hide" grabbed me from the first page and did not let go. What a ride this book was! Will read her again.

"You can't hide" is a psychological thriller in which we learn the tragic fate of two women. Lizzy and Beth are women who are victims of domestic violence. Each of them have done something wrong in their past. Unfortunately, this has consequences in the future. One of them has a husband who shows her who's boss at every step. I was shocked to find out how this wedding happened. Zachary's behaviour made me sick to my stomach. I literally wanted to lock him in the basement and wait for him to die. A seemingly perfect doctor, but in fact an abusive psychopath. I felt sorry for Lizzy for such a husband. Beth is in a different situation. She has a loving husband, Ian. Together they drove to his house to sell it. There they will meet a certain evil man. Will they make it out completely? Do the two ladies have anything in common? Do their husbands know each other? You will learn the answers to these questions by reading the book "You can't hide". Let me just add that I was in shock when I got to know the ending. I didn't expect this turn of events. A plus for the author. It was my first reading encounter with Emily Shiner's work. After reading this book, I already know that I want to read her other novels. I read this book as an e-book. It has only 187 pages. Every page is a real gem. Good action, an original plot, interesting characters and an exciting ending, that's what you can say about this book in a nutshell. I wasn't bored while reading. I love psychological thrillers.

You Can’t Hide is a fast paced thriller told from 2 alternating points-of-view. The storyline is never dull and always keeps you wondering what will happen next, and what secrets Lizzie and Beth are hiding. The book was intense, in a really good way, although there are themes of domestic violence (abuse) which could be something to be aware of. I found myself rooting for Lizzie and Beth, and the ending left me wanting even more! 4.5 ⭐️

Thank you NetGalley for this ARC.

I think I have found another author that I am going to consume all of their works.

When I’m looking to read a thriller, this is the type of feeling I am looking for. I want to feel on the edge of my seat, anxious to read what comes next. I am so pleasantly happy that I got that feeling with this book.

I can’t think of anything that I would change about this book. I truly loved every moment of it.

What impressed me the most about this book is that often when books jump between different character points of view I can find myself confused or find that one of the points of view was unnecessary but that wasn’t the case with You Can’t Hide. I struggled to figure out which point of view I was looking forward to reading the most out of the two.

What a fun, twisted ride this was.

Thank you to NetGalley and Inkubator Books for providing me this arc.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
