The Lie by Kathryn Croft had me thoroughly engrossed from beginning to end.

Lucy thinks that a recent move will bring about a new start for her family, and a chance to leave the past in the past. Her family seems to be happy in their new surroundings, hosting a barbeque to get to know their neighbours. Her son Jacob has even found a girlfriend, Rose, and all seems to be well with the world, at least for now. But the morning after the party, Lucy receives a call from Rose's mother saying that her daughter has not returned home. Jacob swears that he escorted Rose to her door, so where is she now? Does Jacob know more than he is willing to admit?

Kathryn Croft's novels have become automatic reads for me. If you are new to her work, add this one to your TBR now, and prepare to become hooked. 4.5 stars

Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for an ARC.

This is an enjoyable mystery that I could not put down. Enjoyed the focus on teenage characters within their (very different) family systems, the many layers of relationships, and the multiple points of view. Recommended for anyone who enjoys domestic suspense. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.

Lucy and Tom have moved to a new home in Surrey with their children, Jacob and Ava. The day after the move they have a BBQ, Lucy receives a call from Jacob's girlfriend's mother, Carrie. She says Rose is not home and asks if she is at their house. Rose is not there, but Jacob was the last one to see her and walked her home the night before she went missing. All signs are pointing to Jacob as being guilty, but there is no evidence to confirm this. Where is Rose and what happened to her? Everyone that knows Rose doesn't think she would just disappear.

THE LIE was another engaging read by Katheryn Croft. It's told in multiple points of view from Rose, Lucy and Carrie. I could not put it down. I really had no clue what happened to Rose, or if Jacob was guilty. I will say I was taken by surprise when I found out the truth behind THE LIE. This was a very clever book. My second book that I have read from this author and I can't wait to read more from her!

Many thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
I started this book not so sure if I was going to like it and boy was I wrong. This one sucked me right in and I was invested to the end. I did start to get an idea of what happened to rose when I was little more than halfway along and I was right. However this was still a really good book. It did delve into some strange family dynamics but that just made it more twisted.

“The Lie” is a thriller by Kathryn Croft. Ms. Croft is a new to me author, but this book had me hooked from the beginning. This story is told from three points of view: Rose (the missing girl), Carrie (her Mum), and Lucy (Rose’s boyfriend’s mother). I found few of the characters likable in this book - but in one of those few times it actually worked. Could I trust any of the characters? No, though I did believe that the police were doing the best they could under the circumstances. While the police aren’t the focus of this book, I did feel a lot of sympathy for them. There are a lot of red herrings, unreliable characters, and twists. It was very easy to keep the main characters apart. If you like thrillers with twists and some teenage angst, this book may be up your alley.

My Review:
OMG!!!!! Loved!!!!! Her best work yet!!!!!Once I saw this author had another book coming out I just knew I had to read it. This author is by far one of my favorites of all time. I have read most of books and only have two more to go of her earlier ones. There are so many reasons why I love all her books. It would be too hard to list them all so I’m just going to talk about a few things that I love about them. Ok, let’s starts off with the characters in her books. They are fantastic and written so well. You never know who is the bad guy and who is the good guy. I love trying to guess. Next up are the plots. They are always filled with so many twists and turns which keep me up all night reading to find out what happens next. Like with this one I couldn’t put it down for the life of me. Each chapter left me wanting more and more. I just had to know what happened otherwise I wouldn’t be able to concentrate on anything else. Last but not least the endings. They shock me to my core and leave me speechless. This one had me on pins and needles. I couldn’t believe who did it and why. I was screaming OMG the whole time I was reading it. I even reread it just to be sure. For all these reasons and more I love this authors books so much. I can’t wait for her next one.

In conclusion, the plot, the characters and all the twists in this book made this book an enjoyable read. I would definitely recommend it and happily give it 5 Hearts❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I set aside a whole day to read "The Lie" because I had high expectations and wanted to devour it in one hit with no interuptions. My plan paid off, this is Kathryn Croft at her best. It's so gripping and thrilling. Compassionately written, with undercurrents of something menacing lurking in the background.
I love how all the characters' secrets and lies slowly expose and unravell, creating emotional turmoil.
Oh my word, what an ending! Completely unpredictable but believable! Highly recommended.

Lucy and her family have moved to a new home. They host a barbeque for their friends and Lucy's son escorts his girlfriend Rose to her door.
Rose disappears sometime afterwards, and Jacob is chief suspect.
Lucy believes her son and has to find a way to prove that he is innocent. Little does she know that Jacob's past will be resurrected and could possibly be his downfall.

I enjoyed this book, it was quite the page turner. The reader is kept guessing about the dark past and secrets that the family are hiding, and the story told from Rose's point of view hints of a dark terrible secret.
It was very suspenseful, and while I did guess who the killer was quite early in the book, I enjoyed the way the truth came to light.

Thanks to the publishers and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Holy Smokes! This place is on fire and it ain't the damn barbeque party!!!

My word, this had so much activity that it needed it's own runway for these actors on all sides.
Yes, I'm speaking about Tom and Lucy the couple of the year or was that the party of the year?!

Well, nevermind because I'm here to tell you this is one you sure as the dawning sun will want in your hands.
Isn't it nice to want to start over...How sweet!

We have Lucy/Tom -married/starting over. Their son Jacob and his new girlfriend Rose. Add to this Ava their daughter. And of course, the neighbors Carrie/Joe who have called it quits.

There's a ton of suspense surrounding Rose upon her disappearance especially when lil nuggets keep popping up in the neighborhood.

In fact, you might as well say that there's some things that might be better left unsaid but for which the secrets have slowly spilled out during the investigation.

It was quite the guilt trip because Lucy (mom) of Jacob never believed her son was guilty of harming Rose nor involved in her going missing.

It was Tom (his dad) who seemed less concerned and more into his work (I use the word loosely).
After all, he's a lawyer with much to lose.

Then there's the drama around Carrie and Joe. Joe was caught in some lies.

Did I mention Jacob's hidden past? You know, boys will be boys-Right?

However, would he lie to save face especially when relationships are being questioned?
What's this...We have more breaking news in the relationship saga. Ok, what on Earth is everybody doing? Have they all lost their ever lovin' minds?

I can't go into too much but suffice to say some people will do just about anything to get their kicks and this aint' Route 66.

Might I add that the twist and turns take us to places we may not want to go willingly. It's hard to fathom yet, it does occur and is nausea inducing for all parents everywhere. It's sad yet Rose made sure her voice was the last voice heard that mattered! In more ways than ONE!

Wow! Kathryn Croft has done it again and blown me away!

Thank you Kathryn Croft, Bookouture, and Netgalley for this ARC in exchange for this honest review.

This was not only well written but a 'barn-burner' of excitement that never let up!
Highly recommend!

Before you start this book, be warned that once you begin yiu won't be able to put it down again. Literally!

I'm not a fan of character driven books and prefer ones where things are always happening but for some reason, this one wad the exception. It's just so perfectly written and hooks you in from the start. The characters and the scenario and the world created on the pages is just so realistic and relatable. These people really do come alive on the page and each and every one of them are just so relatable.

And of course, it is a thriller so it has so many twists and turns and constantly had me second guessing what I thought that I knew. The writing in this book just flows effortlessly and with such clarity that its like watching a series on TV.

There's no pages and pages of pointless description or waffling or going off on targets, it's just an effortless, natural flow that guides the reader through the mystery to the end. I literally was up until 3am finishing it because I was soo hooked. And it was worth every second. This is easily one of the most perfectly written books I've read.

This book, written by a talented and gifted writer, was a cannot put down story. This is a mystery with which intrigue that it is almost not to be believed. There are so many red herrings that I actually had to stop and regroup, wondering what could happen. The characters are so realistic it is like watching and knowing real people in a neighborhood. I kept pondering about who was guilty. I did guess, midway, what had happened. I did not want to believe it, so I kept thinking I could be wrong. A young girl disappears. Who took her? Not to give away what happened, my suggestion is to read the book and become immersed in a fascinating story of intrigue. This book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review. Thanks to the publisher and the author, one of my favorites. When I see a book available on Netgalley by this publisher, I get excited to request it. When I see a book by this author, icing on the cake. Enjoy enjoy enjoy. Wish I could give this book more than five stars.

"My son said he walked his girlfriend home. But now she is missing… Our new home was meant to be a chance for us to start again, to make new friends and forget the past. And as I look around the barbeque we’ve thrown for our neighbours, I dare to dream that things will be all right. I watch my husband joking as he flips burgers and my daughter turning cartwheels on our sun-bleached lawn. And then my gaze falls on my son Jacob, and his new girlfriend Rose, in her light blue jeans and her green crop top. There is a worried expression clouding her beautiful eyes… The next day I get a call from Rose’s mother that chills me to the bone. Rose never returned after our party. I wake my still-sleeping son, who walked Rose home the night before, and beg him for answers. Jacob promises he saw Rose to her front door, and I know he would never lie.
But when the police find Rose’s house keys hidden in our garden and a witness claims to have seen them arguing in the street, everyone insists I can’t believe what Jacob is telling me.I will do anything to protect my boy. But I need to find a way to make the questions stop. Because there’s something about our family that nobody can ever know. And as the search for Rose closes in, how can I keep him safe and keep our secrets hidden?"

Oh my god.... THIS BOOK!!!!!!
it has 0 reviews yet on Goodreads, so I went into this completely BLIND.
I was blown away by how good it was - I read it in two hours. TWO!

the protagonist is brilliant, the writing is a slow burn with major plot twists, I didn't expect the ending at all.
I am going to highly recommend this book and I cannot wait to read more from Kathryn Croft.

When the police found Rose's house keys hidden in the garden, I was mind blown, and the author has a very clever way of making you suspect everyone and everything. It felt like a cat and mouse chase... and that was brilliant. my favourite types of thriller! I feel very fortunate to have read this 4 months before release date, and I will write a review on instagram just before release :)

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this ARC.

I would give this a 4.5/5 rating.
