Lies... people use them every day. They do it for different reasons. They want to protect a loved one or themselves or they do not want to hurt someone with the truth. A little white lie once and again has not killed anyone yet, but when you lie about something very important and serious it's a totally different kettle of fish.

A mother knows her children best and wants to protect them 24/7. She fights for them because she knows they would never tell tales or does she fight for them because she wants to keep certain things hidden?

We read this story from three different points of view. There is Lucy, who is Jacob's mother and Carrie who is Rose's mum and finally there is Rose who fills in everything that really happened.

There are a lot of people who are dishonest, playing a role in order to get information and then there are others using their power to get what they want.

I loved the way Lucy kept believing in her son and doing her best to try and keep him safe.

I was convinced I knew it all. I wonder whether  you figured it out?

A very good book that left me thinking (and still now a day later): 'What? Wait a minute...!!' and rereading a few previous chapters and still sitting their with my mouth hanging open.

I thoroughly enjoyed this twisty story. 5 stars

Thank you

I love Kathryn's books and always know I'm never going to be disappointed with them! This one was no exception.

The book is about Lucy and Tom, their daughter Ava and Lucy's son and Tom's step-son, Jacob. Jacob and his girlfriend Rose have been seeing each other for a while, but one evening, after a family barbecue, Rose disappears. Jacob is the last person to have seen her and he appears very cagey about his whereabouts....

We are told the story by different points of view: Lucy, Carrie (Rose's mum) and Rose. This works really well as it feeds you little snippets of information and really keeps you interested. There are clearly secrets being kept by several characters and this adds to the underlying tension and unease throughout. I found certain characters hard to sympathise with, but this in no way detracted from the story.

Lucy's unwavering belief in her son was very believable, Carrie's actions with regard to the Adams family later in the book I found less so.

It feels like everyone has something to hide, which certainly kept me guessing! I thought I'd figured out whodunit, but the conclusion was shocking and i was wrong!

Another rollercoaster of a ride by the author, I will eagerly be looking out for her bext book. Definitely recommended.

Thanks to author Kathryn Croft, publishers Bookouture and Net Galley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I liked this book, but I didn't love it, therefore I will not be posting an extended review on my Instagram page, but I will post it on Goodreads. There were certain parts of this book that I found predictable, but it was well-written so I was entertained throughout the book. I wasn't blown away by the ending but I thought it was wrapped up nicely.

I really enjoyed this book as it kept me on the edge of my seat changing my mind about who was guilty and what really happened. I loved Lucy a woman who would do anything for her son to protect him from being arrested for murdering his girlfriend. She never once doubted he was guilty even though his own father was determined to think the worst and Roses mother also felt he was guilty. As lies and secrets from everyone involved start to spill out no one’s life will ever be the same.

Thank you to NetGalley and the Bookouture for providing me an ARC of The Lie for my honest review.

Suburban psychological thriller that is set around a teen girl (Rose) that goes missing. The story is told form alternating POV’s: Carrie (Rose’s Mother), Lucy the suspects mother (Jacob, Rose’s boyfriend), and Rose. I really enjoyed the novel and read this over the course of 24 hours. I kept wanting to pick it up to see what was going to happen. This book had some unexpected twists, which I enjoyed. Interesting how one lie will have a domino effect. There were some situations in which the mental health of Lucy’s younger daughter Ava was being ignored, which I found frustrating. All in all a 3 star rounded up to 3.5 star, I will be sure to check out Kathryn Croft’s backlist of novels.

Thank you to Netgalley and Kathryn Croft for an advanced copy.

Lucy and Tom have relocated to a small town with both their children ( Jacob and Ava). After a bbq at their home, Jacob walks his girlfriend Rose home. Rose then went missing and was found murdered. Jacob was the last person to see Rose alive. Rose's mom Carrie knows Jacob had something to do with it. Jacob promises that he didn't and his mom believes in. In an effort to save her son Lucy and Jacob disappear. While gone Carrie begins to have an affair with Tom. The plot thickens as other characters become suspects. I thought I knew how this book was going to end but I was wrong. I really enjoyed the writing style and plan on reading other books by this author. It was a quick read for me ( only took 2-3 days). I found myself wanting to get home from work so I could continue reading.

This book is soo well written, it's creepy feeling really makes you feel uneasy. You instantly do not trust anyone and think everyone is hiding something. Really well written don't miss

The chapters alternate between the views of Lucy, Carrie and Rose. You instantly get the feeling that everyone’s hiding things. The suspense builds up with every chapter. From Rose’s first chapter you can tell that all is not as it seemed. I was hooked right away on this book, and had to finish it. The ending is unpredictable, with many different suggestions throughout as to how it ended. I can’t wait to read more books by this author.

The Lie is a gripping, can't-put-down thriller that centers on the disappearance of a teen girl and the lies that everyone in her life tells. Tom, Lucy, and their two children, Ava and Jacob, recently moved to a small town in Surrey. Soon after, Jacob begins dating Rose, a local teen, and Rose is welcomed into their family with open arms. To celebrate their recent move, Tom and Lucy host a neighborhood barbeque and invite Rose and her mother Carrie. While the barbeque appears to be a success, Rose never returns home. Jacob is questioned and insists that he walked Rose home and watched her enter her house, but is he lying? The rest of the story focuses on the search for Rose and figuing out what really happened after the barbeque. The story is told through three POVs: Carrie, Lucy, and Rose. The book is fast-paced and cleverly written; each chapter kept me guessing. I only have one critique of the book, which is that some of the actions of the adult characters weren't realistic. In particular, I found the handling of evidence and the lack of communication with the police to be unbelievable. With that said, I still thoroughly enjoyed the book and will definitely be reading more by this author.

A very good thriller! A teenage girl goes missing after a neighborhood barbecue at her boyfriend’s house. Only someone said they witnessed them arguing, what really happened? The story moves along at a good pace, I kept wanting to see what would happen. So many people kept leaving out pieces of the truth - who is really telling the truth? A lot of interesting characters, most have flaws that we can all relate to, such as protecting those that we love. Without giving away the story, I’ll just say there are some unexpected developments. It was interesting the way the author told the story, going back and forth, with different characters narrating chapters. For this story, it was a good way to show what motivated different actions and consequences. I would give this book 4.5 stars.

A very good addictive read.
We all have secrets.
Lucy and Tom Adams move out of London to Surrey, a new start, A lot quieter, for them both, and there grownup children will be happy doing their own thing they have made the right move.
Until Jacob's girlfriend Rose goes missing one night after a barbeque the search is on looking for her by both families and the police find her dead murdered.
Someone is telling a lie as witnesses and evidence of that night appear.

This is one mind blowing story that will hold you with lots of twists, the characters keep changing their stories to keep you wanting to keep on reading and find out the truth.

I loved the whole book right through, this is my first by this author and wont be my last.

Wow Wow Wow! The Lie is an amazing book about, well lies, that has an ending with the biggest lie ever. It grabs you from the very beginning with trying to find out what happened to Rose only to realize no one is telling the truth. The Lie is like a rollercoaster with twists and turns that have you wondering what just happened but by the end you are like wow, what a wild ride.

All I can say is wow! This book had me hooked from the first page and I finished it in a day which is pretty fast for me!

THE LIE follows Lucy and Tom who have just moved into a new neighbourhood with their two children, Jacob and Ava. They’re hoping for a quieter life away from the drama but it’s not long before trouble arises. Jacob is dating a girl called Rose and to everyone else they seem like love’s young dream, until one night after a barbecue Jacob says he walked Rose home and watched her go in safely, but the next day Rose is no where to be found and a search for the missing teenager starts, which unearths lots of lies…

The story switches between three different perspectives, Lucy, Carrie who is Rose’s mother, and Rose. I really enjoy alternate perspectives in books so I really liked that aspect. I also really liked the writing style and I liked that the chapters weren’t too long and they always ended with a twist that made me keep reading!

One thing I will say is that I guessed the twist pretty early on, but I do read a lot of thrillers and I’m always trying to work out the twist so that could be why. Although I figured it out, it didn’t take away the enjoyment for me and I still really enjoyed the reveal and everything that happened after.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and couldn’t put it down! I can’t wait to read more by this author in the future.
Thank you so much to Netgalley for giving me an early copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

When Rose goes missing her boyfriend Jacob gets the blame but he insists that he walked her to her door and saw her go inside her house. Lucy, his mum believes him but his stepdad Tom and younger sister Ava aren’t so sure. The evidence against Jacob keeps stacking up but is he responsible for Rose’s disappearance or is someone else the culprit? Cleverly told in alternating points of view from characters who all have something to hide. This will keep you turning the pages until you get to the surprising but satisfactory conclusion.

I enjoyed this book although it was a bit hard to get into at first and I found it a bit repetitive around the same subjects over and over again with that being said from the about 60% part until the end it was a quite enjoyable book and I would definitely recommend!

Much thanks to #netgalley and #bookouture for allowing me to read and review this ARC

A heart stopping, fast paced, can’t put it down thrill ride. This was well written and had some wonderful characters the story line was phenomenal. I did find it easy to work out what the twist was going to be but for me it heightened my experience as I was desperate to find out how it would all play out. I raced through this at breakneck speed. Am amazing read.
My only dislike was Lucy… if someone’s child was missing and your chilling were clearly hiding info … no parent would be like “ok go to your room and we will talk about it tomorrow” not plausible. You would sit your kids down and find out why the heck someone else’s child is missing. If they know something you find out now, not tomorrow or next week. It made me dislike Lucy as a character.

The Lie by Kathryn Croft is a new book I found via NetGalley, and since it had a great suspenseful premise, I wanted to read it. Hitting my queue this week, I finished the book over the course of two days. Focusing on a teenager who goes missing, readers are made to believe her boyfriend is guilty. He comes from a good family who harbors a secretive past, and he lies a lot. Does that make him guilty? Likely not, but he perhaps is covering for someone like his younger sister who starts fights with him all the time. Toss in the girl's not-so-nice mother (she basically goes after someone's husband because she thinks she just can, tho otherwise she's a good person, it seems), the woman's shady boyfriend, and a few other suspects, this one has a lot to consider. Ultimately, it's a bit obvious who and why but it felt out of character to me. That said, I eagerly turned the pages and found myself interested in solving the crime. The ending was fine, not totally tied up but not completely left vague. I did wonder if it was another lie in the making, so perhaps we don't truly know the truth as the killer swears (s)he didn't do it right up until being walked to prison. I'll give the author another chance later this year, as she has tons of books in he backlog.
