I typically don't start in the middle of a series, but this sounded too good. I was not disappointed but should have started at the beginning. There is definitely a backstory needed for parts of the story. My enjoyment of the story was not diminished with the lack of a backstory. This is well written and very entertaining. While I wait for the next addition I am definitely catching up on this series.

4 1/2*STARS*
Anthony St. Briac spent four years on an expedition with Charles Darwin. The last day on the Galapagos, Anthony has a dangerous fall and is left for dead. Frederica Redfield no longer has her grandfather's protection and must return to her father's home. Once again he is using her to bargain a marriage to obtain money. Fleeing from her father, she seeks shelter with the Raveneau and St. Briac family. Frederica hiding disguised as a male scholar in Anthony's house cataloguing his collection, is a good idea, until he returns from the dead. Still in disguise, she will help to expose the thief who took Anthony's findings and presented them as his own. Frederica and Anthony are two independent personalities that clash, have a common interest in exploration, research and an attraction that brings a blaze neither can deny. Very hot...very steamy.

Her Secret Rogue by Cynthia Wright, book three in the Rakes and Rebels: The St. Briac Family series, does not disappoint; captivating from the very beginning as Anthony St. Briac and Freddie Redford are thrown together due to nefarious reasons. This is a story of a feisty female and a rakish Lord, neither wanting to marry for different reasons, but finding it difficult to keep their hands off each other. Frederica Redfield, a beauty with a brain, who has been fighting her father her whole life and honing her trust issues. Determined not to be married off by her father, she escapes into a romantic encounter with a man who once captured her heart, the dashing and intense Anthony St. Briac. Freddie's attempts to resist the tug of love, aligns perfectly with Anthony's reappearance into London society after a voyage with his friend, Charles Darwin; after fighting his way back to the land of the living. Ms. Wright weaves a story that has every element needed to keep turning the pages: adventure, intrigue, the perfect touches of comedy, and of course the spectacular romance and sizzle she's known for. Familiar and beloved characters from her past novels make their appearances, but Her Secret Rogue is a wonderful read, especially if this book is your introduction into her world. I have been reading and re-reading Ms. Wright’s books since they first appeared, almost fifty years ago, and once again she did disappoint; writing a must read emotional, love story. I highly recommend Her Secret Rogue to other readers.

Finally the long wait is over! So happy the the St. Briac story continues with thier son Anthony. A naturist that has been collecting samples from all over the world meets with a accident on the last day of the expedition. The search team doesn't find him and needs to make their way back to England. All assume the worst but Anthony family never gave up hope.
Frederica is desperate her father is trying to marry her off to cover his debts. She turns to the St. Briac for help and they come up with a crazy plan to hide her from her father.
Love the fast pace of the story. The characters are wonderful, great storyline, some steam and great HEA. Thank you NetGalley for this ARC. All opinions are my own and my alone. #NetGallery #HerSecretRogue

I really enjoyed this book. Freddie was a great MFC and I loved her intelligence and strong sense of self and worth. Also, she didn’t settle for any less than she wanted and deserved. I wish the intimate scenes had a little more detail and that Anthony had, at least to himself, acknowledged his feelings a little sooner. I also wish he had been the one to dismiss his past lover. I also kind of wished Charles Darwin had found a lady friend but maybe that’s for a different book!

For five years, naturalist Anthony St. Briac is believed to be missing. What began as an expedition to visit and study the wildlife on the Galápagos Islands with his university friend Charles Darwin, turns to a mystery when he vanishes. Frederica Redfield had known Anthony and was smitten by his charm, by not knowing of his absence believes that he has dismissed her. Now five-and-twenty, Freddie aspires to do scientific research, but her father is determined to marry her to an aged, wealthy baron, to pay off his debts. Yet Freddie decides to escape and hide behind the disguise of a male professor in Anthony St. Briac’s empty Mayfair home, cataloguing the rare fossils sent home during his five-year voyage with Darwin. When Anthony returns to his home, determined to uncover the mystery behind his near-fatal accident, he needs to rely on Freddie to help him. Yet their time spent working closely together, threatens Freddie’s standing in society, her identity is revealed.
I loved the integration of Charles Darwin and his works, into the storyline, together with the collection of the finches, which are an integral part of Darwin’s theory of evolution. This was clever told and to make him a friend of Anthony’s was quite novel. Freddie’s determination to make a name for herself and Anthony’s ability to acknowledge this part of Freddie was sweet to read about. Despite his own travels and experience, Anthony was never dismissive and incredibly supportive.

Naturalist Anthony is missing. Bluestocking Frederica needs a place to hide so her father can't force her to marry. Anthony's family hire her to catalog Anthony's treasures. Disguised as a male professor, she's shocked when Anthony returns—and he's trying to entrap the man who left him for dead. Working together, can they solve the mystery? Or will their secret identities be revealed?

This is an inventive novel full of unexpected twists. I wasn't sure what to make of it at first, but soon became invested in the intriguing plot and engaging characters. Anthony and Frederica are a perfect match.

Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.

Oh my! Now I have to go back and read the previous books about this interesting family. Anthony is a naturalist, lost during a scientific mission with Charles Darwin. Fredrica is a 25 year old trying to escape her fathers nefarious plans. The couple is put into close contact and let the intrigue and romance begin! 5 stars.

She went into hiding to escape her father’s machinations and he came back from the dead to reveal the fraud who would take credit for his work. And amidst it all they found each other. A tale of a woman who will not be defeated by circumstances, and an honorable man with a mission to regain what was taken from him. An enjoyable read in the middle of winter.

I received an ARC of this book from Netgalley and leaving my review voluntarily.

This book was just okay for me. It took me a while to get through it and didn't quite capture by attention.
Anthony was lost the day before he was to return to England with Charles Darwin. His family believing he was dead allowed fredrica disguised as a man to stay in Anthony's house and catelogue his discoveries.
Freddie is avoiding her father who wants to marry her off to settle his debts.
Once Anthony returns the story picks up but while the relationship moves forward and they try to uncover what happened to Anthony I just didn't really care. The characters just didn't grab my attention.

Thus was an interesting story about a woman being forced to marry. This review may contain spoilers.
The heroine in this story is 25 years old. For the past 5 years, she has been living and taking care of her ailing grandfather. He has passed away and his heir is requesting that she move out. She is in a pickle because she moved to her grandfather's house to escape a forced marriage. She moved out of the house her mother left to her because her father kept trying to force her to marry a 70 year old man. Since she had no where to go, she moves back to her house where her father again is trying to force her to marry the now 75 year old man. Her father tells her he has debts and actually took a mortgage out on her house and spent her dowry. The heroine runs away to a neighbor's home who promised to help her. The neighbors are happy to help. They have a son about 3 years older than her that she has had an unrequited love for, until he tricked her. The neighbor helped her into a disguise and hired her to categorize their son's specimens that he sent back from a 5 year trip to the Galapagos Islands. The heroine catalogued her grandfather's collection and she has an interest in natural history. If she could get a job at the museum, she would. But they do not hire women. So she disguises as a mn and starts on the floor-to-ceiling crates in his library. Soon after, the neighbor gets news that their son fell from a cliff and was lost to the sea. Heartbroken, she returns to work at the request of his family. One of the men he travelled with comes to help her. She notices that some specimens are missing and she actually captures him stealing one. He denies it of course. That night, there was a break in. She dresses in her male disguise and goes to confront the thief and protect the collection. But, it isnt a thief, it is the neighbor's son, alive and angry at being left for dead. He is the hero and he had to work his way back home. He requests that his return to the living be a secret until he solves the mystery of why he was left behind.
This wan an interesting concept and idea for a story. I just felt that the interplay between the two main characters was dragged out a little. At this point, if the hero has to lose the heroine to realize that he loves her, I think she is better of without him. He is an adult and should realize why he may say he wants to return to his old life, but then reality isn't as good as he remembers because when the heroine was leaving, he felt it in his heart. I give this book 4.0 stars because some of the decisions made by the main characters just did not make sense. It was an interesting read, so I do recommend if you feel this type of book is to your liking.

Love to see a regency romance with main characters as women in #STEM!

Frederica wants nothing more than to follow her passions for scientific research, without the distractions of the charming Anthony St. Briac. When Anthony is presumed lost on a research expedition, Frederica is fighting her own battles to escape a marriage she doesn't want. Posing as a male professor and taking up a position in Athony's personal home to catalog his expedition's findings - Frederica is once again in danger of falling for this charming.. but maybe reformed rouge?

The best thing about this book is that it felt like the story almost could've been real! I spent some time in Ecuador in college, which is close to the Galapagos Islands and it's fun to imagine what the world was like before almost every subject was easily accessible on the internet. Her Secret Rouge is a gem among regency romances!

Intriguing and dynamic with a scientific slant. Her Secret Rogue held my interest until the end despite the non-mystery, mystery. Frederica's guise is a bit ridiculous and not entirely believable, but the narrative is strong enough to overlook. The dialogue and character development is on point and the chemistry between Frederica and Anthony is believable. I enjoyed the buildup of their relationship and the hints to their previous interaction. The backstory was just enough to answer any loose ends without being overwhelming. The care taken with their story spot on and the evenly paced build enhanced their chemistry. Her Secret Rogue is my first Cynthia Wright novel, but I hope not my last.

When Frederica’s father tries to force her to marry an old man to repay his debts, she runs to the Briac family. They decide to disguise her as a man and have her live at their missing son Anthony’s home while she categorizes all his finds he sent back from his explorations. What no one planned on was Anthony. I received an ARC from NetGalley and Oliver Heber Books for my honest review.
