A super practical and extremely helpful read.
Trust is a HUGE can of worms to unpack, and I appreciate the thorough and well researched information in this book. I learned a lot and highlighted a lot of passages.
The writing style was the right mix of relatable and academic for my taste.
If you or someone you know has faced a major betrayal, the section at the end on recovering from broken trust and choosing whether or not to trust again would be a game changer.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the digital ARC of this book.

Trust: Knowing When to Give It, When to Withhold It, How to Earn It, and How to Fix It When It Gets Broken by Dr. Henry Cloud is an important work. This book is one full of hope. It is a guidebook for anyone who has ever had their trust broken or never been able to trust at all— pretty much all of us. While nothing is full proof, Dr. Cloud points to the Scriptures and to solid principles about relationships to provide a blueprint for trusting again. I highly recommend this book to a wide audience. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.

Trust is essential in all spheres of life and if you look for a book that teaches how to build, grow an sustain trust, you found it. This book walks you through knowledge and skills of trust and how to strategically apply them. The ideas are nice and the stories illustrate them well. I liked the bullet points throughout the book that help to memorize most important summaries. The book is somewhat practical and still needs attention to detail while reading.

I struggle with trust because I am prone to giving trust easily and I went into this book looking for answers. Dr Henry Cloud tackled trust in everything -when to give it and when to receive it., I loved that the author wrote in a relatable way and that the book was short and straight to the point . We all need to read this book.

What an enlightening book. I had no idea trust was so important and necessary. Reading Cloud's book helped me understand why some people seem to rub me the wrong way, so to speak. But I also learned that trust is certainly more than just a feeling. I appreciate Cloud teaching us how to recognize the characteristics leading to trust and how we can become a trustworthy person. Understanding is a big part of it and listening is the foundation to that understanding. He explores the additional aspects of motive, ability, character, and track record. He gives loads of examples from his own experiences, including what can be accomplished when trust is established.

This is a good book for us to become better at deciding who is trustworthy and whether we should put ourselves at risk or not. It is also good for knowing how to handle a situation when trust has been broken, including how to repair the relationship. This book is full of wisdom and practical teaching.

I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.

I was first introduced to Henry Cloud’s work at a conference. I then took an online course with him some years back. Now he brings another informative and worthwhile offering to relationships to the public. A worthwhile read.

I’m always struck with how well Dr. Henry Cloud communicates on a topic - this book was specifically on the topic of Trust, and it’s one that has implications for every person as it’s foundational to life. This book is well organized and factual with the right balance of real world stories to complement the science. It kept me engaged from beginning to end and I learned so much.

The book opens with defining what trust is and what it isn’t. It then moves through the five key areas of trust: understanding, motive, ability, character, and track record. It then walks through how to respond when trust is broken. His approach is very open and does not feel patronizing— which is nice as I think all people can identify or think of a time they let someone down. This section was helpful in recognizing that rebuilding is possible. As someone who has been betrayed, Dr Cloud points out that you can absolutely choose not to reengage and be completely justified in doing so. The whole section was very well done. Finally, the book covers how to spot and recognize untrustworthy people before they are able to break trust with you.

I really appreciated the insights Dr. Henry Cloud shares in this book, and absolutely recommend it to anyone working on self development, leadership team building, marriage, a complement to work in therapy, (or just being human).

A special thanks to Worthy Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Dr. Henry Cloud always writes thought-provoking, useful guides to becoming your best self while creating healthy relationships, both romantic and platonic. As someone with PTSD which stems from an abusive relationship, I knew "Trust" was a must read.

This book takes you on a deep dive into the psychology of Trust. Well written and honest, with real-life examples, Dr. Cloud helps readers navigate the hurdles that may be preventing them from allowing connections with others from reaching their full potential.
