I love all this Sherlock Holmes. Therefore, I love this collection. It's not to be missed and comes at a time when we're between books/series. Well done!

Nice homage to the world's most well known (and beloved) consulting detective - Sherlock Holmes. We begin with his arrival in London as a fresh faced lad of 23yo in 1887, crossing swords with Inspector Lestrade on his (Holmes) first case, before Watson takes over the narrative of the next cases over the course of a decade.

Worthy addition to anyone's Sherlock Holmes collection.

I accessed a digital review copy of this book from the publisher.
As Victorian mysteries, these were interesting stories. As stories about Sherlock Holmes, I felt like they were a little lacking.

I'm a big reader of historical detective fiction, so I'm always interested in any book that offers a new take on the Sherlock Holmes canon.

I enjoyed this book of short stories. Depending on what the reader wants, short stories can be more satisfying than a full-length novel. I was entertained by these stories and liked the style of writing. It was a pleasant read, and light enough to read in one sitting.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for a free copy to review.

This is a collection of ten Holms and Watson short stories. The anthology was interesting and a good place to start, since I’ve not read a Sherlock Holmes novel. Ther were several portions that I liked. I am a word nerd, so the vocabulary made me excited. I like the lookup feature on the Kindle and I used the feature for several of the words. I was able to imagine Victorian England because of the descriptive words used by the author. I enjoyed the interaction between the characters, which made them authentic to the time period.
I received this Advanced Reader Copy from Thomas A Burns Jr, Buzz Books, and Net Galley and I’ve written an honest review.

This is a collection of 10 new cases with sleuthing duo Sherlock Holmes and Dr John Watson. The writing for this anthology is vibrant and full of details and descriptions that transport the reader to Victorian London. I enjoyed this foray very much!

These stories evoke Conan Doyle's (and Watson's) voice and capture the atmosphere of the originals but with slightly more modern language making it smoother to read. I have been reading and rereading Holmes stories for decades and never tire of new ones being added to the body of work. I received this as an advance copy from the author via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving this review.

I received a free digital copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

A three-star review is a good read from me!

I think author captured the feel of Sherlock and Watson's London, their characters, and had interesting stories, including hints of Moriarty.

There was a lot of period-appropriate vocabulary, some of which really added to the story, but sometimes I thought it distracted from the plot (it's a hard thing to balance for sure). Occasionally some details threw me, like the mention of "bare-bottomed boys" in one of the early stories, which just felt odd and unnecessary. But overall, I appreciated the author's fidelity to the Conan-Doyle canon.

Right up front, I have to warn that my review should be taken with a grain of salt. I read Conan Doyle’s versions of Sherlock Holmes tale when I was very young and have reread them countless times. I might even be able to recite them from memory. Therefore, this book had very high standards to achieve in my mind. Unfortunately, those standards weren’t met in my opinion.

The book is a far variation on the Sherlock Holmes themes. First-time readers can enjoy this for what it is; not in comparison to Conan Doyle’s sagas. The stories have a good flow and are entertaining, for the most part. And the writing is decent. It does hold one’s interest. It’s possible to immerse oneself in the characters. So on its own, it’s decent, but not noteworthy.
For my part, I found the book lacking in two main areas. It missed the mark on the Holmes/Watson relationship. This was very eclectic bond. Holmes was often annoyed with, and condescended to Watson. And then he would respect him and long for his company. He was also quite scolding or dismissive. Watson was also quite diverse. He was able to feel admiration, frustration and resentment of Holmes, often at the same time. He was also loyal to a fault. And he dedicated himself Holmes and his cases. All of these traits, both Watson’s and Holmes’s, could come forth at any time during the tales. The relationship was both dynamic and unique. I never got that feeling with this book.

Conan Doyle’s depiction of Holmes’s approach and actions isn’t captured here. Although Holmes could be active and energetic, he tended towards the cerebral. Much of his deductive reasoning was based on a wealth of past criminal actions. He also had a vast knowledge of so many obscure fields of study. This allowed him to leap to many deductions spontaneously. This defined Holmes’s talents. In most stories, we saw this when he explained his reasoning at the end of the saga. This created a very unique and complex person. I had a hard time connecting to Holmes in these stories because he acted differently than I expected.

But I don’t want to sound negative about this book. There’s much to enjoy here. Readers new to Sherlock Holmes will be able enjoy it. Those that revel in variations of past books will also appreciate it. I’m just probably not able to let go of my past experience with Conan Doyle’s stories. In this case, the fault lies with me. Remember that “grain of salt” thing I mentioned above.

My thanks to NetGalley and BookBuzz for an Advanced Reader Copy. But my opinions presented here are wholly my own.

A collection of short engaging stories, typical to Holmes and Watson. Some
with a rural setting but many set in the miasma of London slums involving
everydayLondoners

The intriguing part is the portrayal of the deductive and detective skills of
Holmes who at a glance can narrow down the profession, the locality, the status
of many who turn to him for support. Holmes isthe quiet, supportive partner
meticulouslyfollowing instructions, very protective of Holmes and just trying
to keep up with his partners brilliantmind.

Loved the stories, never will get tired of them.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle would be proud!

This book is intriguing & very similar to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes books.

I greatly enjoyed each of the 10 stories. They drew me in quickly & kept my attention. The author has a great vocabulary & even though I thought I had a broad vocabulary, I found myself having to look up several words!

The author has done a lot of research & you can tell! The time period is accurate, clothing, foods, speech, etc. Well written & captivating. Great mysteries.

The book was cleaner than I expected, which I am thrilled about.

I look forward to reading more books by this author!

I always enjoy reading a good book from Sherlock Holmes stories. This was a great collection of stories, and they had what I needed from this series. Each story was what I was looking for and they were wonderfully done. I'm excited to read more from the author.
