It wasn't terrible, just not for me. The target audience seems to be much younger (maybe middle school age?). As I understand, the author is young and so I feel like this collection is a good start to a writing career.

1.75. Thanks to NetGalley and the horror tales publishing, I was able to read this book as e-arc. 

So this book is supposed to be YA, but it felt more middle-grade/children. Like, put it in the good category. Some stories were kind of good or the endings. But I think the author needs to improve his writing style. Most of the stories were meh or cringe. The characters were awful and not realistic. And when the author uses all caps or repeats the same later again and again for screams. Also, there were some mistakes, like the story was in the third-person POV and suddenly, we have a 1st person POV. Maybe the editing needed a little more work

Anyway. Maybe his other books will be better and he just needs to write more. Because this book really has potential, just not really exploited to its fullest.

If you are between the ages of 12 and 16, this book is probably for you.
In Jitters, we find a series of short stories with different monstrous figures: zombies, evil games, ghosts, witches and more.
While I was reading them I couldn't help but make the analogy between Jitters' stories with the Halloween specials that some television series put out, because these stories entertain more than seek to scare.
However, I am not within the target audience for the stories, so sometimes they seemed to me to be very simple and to a certain extent ridiculous, which meant that I did not fully enjoy reading them.
I don't think these stories would appeal to a more mature audience.

Chris Harmon's short story collection shows what a promising, talented young writer he is. He has a knack for writing about things that are genuinely scary to people of all ages. His writing style is best suited for a younger audience but he tackles adult topics with ease. I look forward to seeing what he writes in the future.

I enjoyed this book. I do think that it would benefit from a trigger warning at the start of it due to the heavy themes it includes and the age that it is aimed at. I found most of the stories interesting, however some were not all that exciting to me. Great for younger readers.

I admire a young author and his creativity. The 15 stories in this book are unique and targeted at a younger audience. Chris Harmon has a bright future in writing as he matures and develops his voice. The horror world needs young talent like Chris to continue to thrive.

While I enjoyed the quick read much editing is needed. Aside from grammatical errors the level of detail in the scenes needs review. For example in the first story a character was walking viscously? I do not understand how one walks like this. While keeping the story targeted to a younger audience I feel a review of details would make this novella top notch.

I received this book from Netgalley. I think that the cover of the book doesn't gel with the content. The stories weren't particularly scary, while the cover is pretty terrifying. While there are some good ideas, I feel it would have been better to choose one story idea and then write a longer novel. Unfortunately there were also many grammar/continuity errors in the book which should have been picked up by someone editing the book. Overall, I think this young author has potential and should keep at it!

I understand that Chris Harmon is young, and I don't want to ruin writing for a young author by being a mean reviewer. However, Harmon would benefit from editors. The short stories in 'Jitters' contain a lot of spelling errors, grammatical issues, and continuity errors. I'm going to guess that Harmon is a fan of 'Goosebumps', as a lot of these stories feel influenced by the series. The relatively innocent horror stories contrast strangely with the foul-mouthed characters, leading to some unintentionally hilarious parts (for example, a character saying "How the fuck can I get over it?" over almost being sent to prison for spray painting 'Newland Stinks' onto a building).

I don't want to discourage Harmon from writing, but I don't think this collection of short stories is ready for publishing. While these stories are probably great fun while he's telling them around the campfire, they lose a lot of his voice when transferred into text, leading to a bit of a painful read.

My first time reading anything “horror” related and this young author did an amazing job getting my imagination working!!! Even with it being horror this was an amazing short book with short stories!

I can do ALL sorts of horror… but the disgusting fat-phobic drivel that I encountered in only the second story was an immediate dnf for me!

i wanted to like this, but it was just underwhelming. for a young author this book is alright, but it’s definitely more suited to a younger audience. i was hoping for some horror mini-stories, but this book isn’t for anyone who’s read true horror before. would be good for someone under 15, as some of the stories are creepy, but not truly scary.

Jitters does exactly what the title tells you it's going to do! It's going to give you creepies and crawlies and gross outs and gags. These stories are cute, but some of the descriptive language genuinely did scare me.

The Unwanted Guest
- I read this late one night and was petrified of a knock on my door. I love a character obsessed with horror (like I am) and these characters gave everything I could want and more. You'll love it too, just be careful who gets in......
New Teacher
- Oh this was delightfully wicked! I liked this story surrounding those teachers who are hiding the most nefarious secrets.
The Witch's Spell
- Moral of the story - be kind!! Also super gross language around certain conditions - I liked it!!
The Abandoned House
- This felt very Scary Stories to tell in the dark but genuinely had some creepy language!
The Very Scary Game
- Beware old board games and the places they can take you. Super fun for Jumanji fans!
Dollface
- I love a good twist and this story didn't disappoint. If you wanna be guessing until the last word this is the story for you!
Aliens In My Backyard
- This was a fun story. Very boy who cried wolf but add in some fun lasers.
Attack of the Robot Costume
- The newest RL Stine Haunted Mask!! This story was cute and I loved the twist at the end!
Weekend at Green Lake
- Beware the rising dead from Green Lake! The descriptions in this story really stand out to me!
The Wishing Stick
- Be careful what you wish for finds it's truest meaning in this story! 😈
Back to 1942
- Being thankful for the life you have is the theme of this story. And it has just enough bite to create a lasting impression.
Don't Break the Ice
- The title alone can tell you the basics of this story. However, when reading this I had to curl up under a blanket to get rid of the chill that crept into my body.
Granny's Little Baby
- This was just super creepy but also entertaining!
Haunted House Video
- Short and sweet and "delicious!"
The Strange School
- I can't say much about this story without giving away all the fun parts of this that I enjoyed so much. You'll love this finale story!

Perfect for fans of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark and definitely more adult Goosebumps - but beware these stories are scarier and not all of them have happy endings!! Check it out!

I was not entirely impressed with this book, difficult to get through, I couldnt tell if it was the writing style or content. I wanted to love the short stories but I couldn't get into it.

Although a decent read the books needs another edit it has grammatical errors throughout. Names wrong in stories and wordings that don’t match up.
I understand it’s for YA but it seems childishly written and not read through properly first.
The plots for the stories are good but they also need data checking the 1942 story has a comment on serial killers this word wasn’t created till the late 70’s.
Once it’s had a good editing check I think it’ll be ok

These were 15 good horror short stories, I enjoyed each one and thought Chris Harmon wrote these really well. I think my favorites were Dollface and Haunted House Video, but each one was well done and I enjoyed the collection overall.

One of the first things I noticed about this short story compilation is that the writing is in short, jarring sentences. I'm not sure if it was the writing style or because of the sentences it was harder for me to get into. Does that suggest that maybe they aren't good? No not necessarily. It just wasn't for me. I know that there are likely other people who enjoy this particular kind of style.

The cover of this book really drew me in and I was curious about the short stories. I am aware it's aimed at 13-18 year olds, but the language was very amateurish and disjointed. There were a lot of really good stories that have a lot of potential. I felt the swearing was there to add shock value rather than having any meaning.

Maybe if I was younger or had a young adult to read this with then I may have enjoyed it more.
