REVIEW: Drowning by @tj_author

I read Falling and LOVED it, so was so excited to read the next book by this author. I loved this book even more!

Six minutes after take off, a plane crashes into the ocean. Evacuation attempts are made, but an engine explodes, causing problems for those in the water - and those still in the plane. The plane starts to take on water, and sinks - with twelve people still on board. Managing to waterproof the plane, the people onboard are still alive - but with limited oxygen, rescue attempts need to be fast.

Wow. This book read like a movie - I could picture all of the events occurring, and was completely invested. The range of characters was diverse and I loved reading about their development and how they dealt with the situation.

This is definitely a must read!

Thank you NetGalley for this read!

I couldn't put Falling down, and Drowning read much in the same fast-paced way. Each chapter ends with a cliffhanger leaving you wanting more.

This story follows a plane crash that lands in the ocean near Hawaii. The main characters are trapped inside, and the book follows the crew as they work to free the passengers from the plane.

Every time I read one of Newman's books, it makes me a little more fearful of flying ;) hah!

I'll keep coming back for every one of her new releases! They are always amazing, and the twists/turns are unexpected.

3.5 out of 5. This is a thriller that might be better as a movie. It won some points by having a great twist of an ending but the changing narrations were rough. There were many convoluted viewpoints and voices and I had a hard time knowing what perspective we were on, I wasn't the biggest fan of the writing. The main issue is that the story was too convenient and close knit for comfort. The mom storyline made it, although emotional, so much less believable. . Liked it did not love it.

Wow!!! I saved this book to read on the plane to Hawaii!! I could see the waters the plane sank into. Finished it within a few short days and am
already ordering several copies to give to family and friends!! I was on the edge of my seat for the entire read- holding my breath for much of it and other parts tears streamed. This book is a must and so is the movie as this will be a future summer blockbuster!! I have also read her first book, Falling and loved that too!

Another great read by T. J. Newman, like her previous novel this one starts with by grabbing you by the shirt and takes you on a roller coaster of a ride until the last page.
Shortly after take off flight 1421 crashes into the ocean off the coast of Honolulu. The landing is rough and the passengers are glad they survived, hoping for a quick rescue.
Evacuation grinds to a holt when the engine explodes causing a fiery inferno on the ocean.
I lovThe remaining passengers shut the door to stop the fire and toxic fumes from getting to them. Thinking they are safe while waiting for the rescuers to arrive the plane sinks 200 feet below the ocean. Trapping the 12 remaining passengers and flight crew inside a small air pockets inside the plane.
Time is ticking, the air supply is running out, can they be rescued in time.
Just one piece of advice before reading this book, don't read if you about to go on a plane. I read this 2 weeks before I flew to London and let's just say it lived rent free in my head during take off and landing.
A great read that was fast paced with strong lead characters. I love that it was a woman character that came up with a solution to rescuing the passengers and she was the one who executed the plan.

This book was so much more than a plane crash it dealt with the loss of a child, being given second chances and the lengths parents will go to when there child is in danger.

Wow! Drowning was a non stop, breath holding, action packed disaster thriller from the first sentences.

This was fun and also terrifying. I enjoyed this one even more than Falling.

It’s fear, humanity and emotions rolled together in a giant snowball that just mows you down.

I read this in a mere 7 hours (in which some of that time, I had to take a breather as my heart was pounding out of my chest). I don’t think I need to fly on a plane, anytime soon. Maybe ever. 😂

Such a great story and I loved the characters and could relate to so many of them. Sometimes last chances do exist but is what you
have to do to earn those worth it?

Great read! Bring me more. I’m in. Thanks for my early copy (even though I was late), why did I wait so long??

THIS BOOK WAS AMAZING!

Life got in the way of this book to be read, but once I started the book, the book got in the way of life. This felt like a book of its own genre. The fear that crept in my body as I thought about being on a plane crashing into the ocean, of how I would feel and deal if something happened to my husband and son, of being trapped so deep underwater, of having to dive that deep underwater. I kept thinking what would I do, how would I handle this. At times I felt like I was there in the water and when they were coming up in that suit I was telling myself not to hold my breathe.

I highly highly recommend this book. There was nothing bad about this book expect that it had to end.

As a frequent flyer, I wasn’t sure I wanted to read a book about an airplane “ditching” in the Pacific Ocean, but I couldn’t put the book down. Drowning is an intense thriller that immediately draws you in. Newman’s flight attendant background allowed her to paint such a vivid picture, that I felt I was right there in the airplane cabin with the passengers. I found myself holding my breath as I turned the pages to find out what was next. #RedwoodForever

Fantastic! From the first words, this book was hard to put down. It was a thriller, and a good one at that!

Thank you to NetGalley, Avid Reader Press/Simon & Schuster, and the author for sharing this ARC with me in exchange for my honest feedback!

Before starting this book, I looked into the author and learned that T.J. Newman was a flight attendant before becoming a writer. I love when authors have real-life experience with the subject material and their stories come across in such an authentic way. I also learned that this was her second book, so I went and got her debut, Falling, and read that one first. I know this is a review for Drowning, but I was so impressed with Falling, and I couldn't wait to start her second book!

Drowning tells the story of an aircraft that crashes midflight and sinks down into the ocean with a handful of survivors still on board. Told from different points of view and in alternating timelines, the three main characters are Will and Shannon, a father/daughter duo that are trapped underwater, and Chris, the wife and mother who is helping lead the rescue effort from land.

Drowning was a completely wild ride from start to finish, and the emotional depth that the author gave us with the family at the center of the story was the cherry on top of an already amazing book. The side characters were also really well-developed and had you rooting for their survival just as much as you were for the main characters. Sometimes in thrillers, you can detach yourself from the story stating that the whole thing was so unrealistic. That is not the case in Drowning. Newman's vast experience with airplanes made the story so believable and definitely had me thinking, "Wow, this could definitely happen to me!"

For someone who is already terrified of flying, this book was a heart-pounding race from start to finish and I loved every minute of it!

This book was excellent! I read it in one sitting almost; I didn't want to put it down. I couldn't wait to find out what happened. It was so intense. I'm already a nervous flyer and this book will stop me from flying for a good long while, lol! 4 stars and I will definitely be reading Newman's next book too!

Thank you to NetGalley, T.J. Newman and Simon & Schuster Canada for the free e-book in exchange for an honest review.

Wow guys! This might be my favourite thriller in a while - it’s thrilling, suspenseful and fast paced. There isn’t a ton to say without giving anything away but I was obsessed.

Thanks NetGalley and the author for a free e-copy for an honest review.

I LOVED this book! I could not put it down.

Following the points of views from the passengers that are trapped in a plane that’s under water in the ocean, and their rescuers. Included with plane survivors are a father and daughter and their wife is one the rescue crew.

This was a fast paced novel with lots of action. Lots of moments that made cry and a few that makes me yell “ya!”

I previously read this authors first book “Falling” and and loved that as well.

Safe to say, every book in the future written by this author, will be an automatic buy!

This was another exciting, non-stop thriller from the same author as Falling. I loved this one just as much. Couldn't put it down. Definitely felt like it was being written to be a movie.

Not for anyone getting on a plane anytime soon or who might feel claustrophobic.

It was really interesting getting all the behind the scenes into what would happen in case of a plane crash and also the science involved in the rescue. There is a fair bit of technical stuff but I enjoyed that.

Overall a great read!

Thanks to Netgalley and Simon and Shuster for providing a copy for an unbiased review.

Not long after Flight 1421 takes off over the Pacific ocean it crashes. As the passengers are evcauating the plane explodes and fuel and chemicals ref up all over the water helping to spread the fire and makes it unsafe to get off the plane. Several passengers decide to stay on board closing the door and sealing them in to the plane. As it starts to sink the remaining passengers start to panic wondering if they made the right choice.

There is some technical stuff in this book that lost me, but I hung in there and the fast paced story taking place with the rescuers above and the passengers under water kept me turning the pages counting down the minutes before the air in the plane ran out.

A propulsive thriller that had me rooting for these all the people involved in the story.

I read Drowining with an advanced readers copy from netgalley. A fun read, kind of predictable, but the type of book you want to read on the beach. But not on the airplane heading there. Not quite as good as the first book, but all in all a very quick and enjoyable read.

I think what’s really nice about this book is that the moments when everything was really tense, the author really kept you hooked. I just think it was hard to get to those moments. The moments in between I felt like I really didn’t care about. I wish there were less characters so that we could really get to know these characters more. Overall I would recommend it to someone who wants to be immersed in a thriller for a little bit or something who’s starting to pick up more thrillers.

This was a very suspenseful read. I enjoyed the uniqueness of this being set on a plane underwater. It sadly helps too that I was reading this around the same time as the recent submersible incident, so made it even more intense.

This is definitely one of the best books of the year I could not put it down! The dinner burned the house went and cleaned. The laundry went undone that’s how good this book is.

This was an absolute nail-biter of a thriller that will have you hooked from the first page. Newman's writing is super fast-paced, and the characters feel so real, making this a total page-turner for anyone who loves intense, heart-pounding stories.
