So any book that brings emotional tears to my eyes deserves 5 out of 5 stars (I already was before the tears, but that just sealed the deal). This should definitely be a hit book of the summer - it's fast-paced, cinematic, and action-packed. I was on the edge of my proverbial seat the entire time I was reading it.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Drowning by TJ Newman
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

I am so thankful to The Currently Reading Podcast for putting this book on my radar! It is SO GOOD. I devoured it in 2 days. It gave me The Martian vibes. If you like heart pounding thrillers and smart characters solving problems to survive, I highly recommend this book. It is so fast paced and reads like a movie. There are several characters, but the author does an amazing job helping you keep track.

Drowning by T.J. Newman
Rating (5/5) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thank you Netgalley , Avid Reader Press , and author for this arc. I received the arc on May 30th , the day of its release. Great book! Great writing! The writing style of this author makes you feel as though you are there with them. Highly recommend - it’s a real page turner!

A series of cascading failures aboard a commercial flight from Honolulu to San Francisco is the start to a thrilling story that never lets up.

The plane crashes in the ocean. After most people exit the plane, and a deadly fire kills most of them, the remaining few still aboard the plane seal themselves in to await rescue. But, one more catastrophic failure sends the plane underwater, and author T.J. Newman shows us how the survivors must cope with diminishing air, hypothermia and injuries, while a rescue operation comprised of Coast Guard, the Navy and an underwater construction crew, one of whom is the wife of one of the survivors on the plane, must rush against a steadily worsening situation to rescue them.

I got, weirdly, "Poseidon Adventure" vibes from this story, which was tense, and had some good character moments. I liked how the despite conflicting opinions of those in the plane and those trying to rescue them, people had to come together to support one another. I don't typically read disaster stories, but this one was a lot of fun.

Thank you to Netgalley and to Avid Reader Press for this ARC in exchange for my review.

Drowning will have you by the throat and on edge from the first page and not release you until the end of the book. The intense rescue operation after an airplane crash into the ocean minutes after takeoff is what this book is all about. It is definitely a thriller, and I also loved all the technical information that went into the story. I'm sure the next time I get on a plane, this book will come to mind.

This would've been a 5 star read because of its quick start thriller and claustrophobic tension, if not for its intense and nonstop details about aircrafts. I have no idea how airplanes work and just pray it gets me from point A to point B, and the vast amount of details about the mechanics behind the airplanes and recovery process made my mind go blank.

BUT if you are someone who can actually understand these concepts and they don't make your brain feel fuzzy, this would be perfect for you!! It was intense, emotional and fast paced. I felt like I was in this plane with them and felt the claustrophobic tension they felt.

Loved the premise, but maybe it just wasn't for me! I definitely already purchased this for my dad who is an airplane engineer and would appreciate this much more than I can!

Thanks to NetGalley and Avid Reader Press for the eARC.

This book was action from the very beginning. Its not often that you are reading of a plane crash right at the start of a novel, but hey - TJ Newman does it for you. The action never stopped and I'll tell you what, I am glad I read this before my next flight. Sheesh!

4/5 stars. Wild ride.

Wow. I couldn’t put this book down. It was so good! The characters are fantastic and the story is unlike anything I’ve ever read. 6 minted after takeoff, flight 1421 crashes into the pacific. Of the 99 initially onboard, 12 are alive and trap themselves inside. The plane sinks and requires extensive rescue efforts keeping you on the edge of your seat the entire ride!
Thank you to NetGallery and Simon & Schuster for the ARC!

Loved this book, couldn’t put it down. I love that the action started from page one and I appreciated the extra details surrounding the characters being repeated a few times at the start so I was never confused about who was who. That strong set up made the rest of the book fly and I loved it!

This book was intense and action packed, it felt like watching a real movie. The action starts off immediately, some pages in and the plane is already crashing. I felt like what now? What will happen after this? A LOT.

Fast paced, nail-biting, adrenaline rush, emotional and an unforgettable story that you just can't put down until you have read the whole thing. Trust me, you can't miss reading this one.

Just wow! 5 stars. I couldn’t put it down. I enjoyed falling but this book was a whole other level. I really loved the idea of love waiting on the inside and outside of the plane.

Drowning was a hold your breath, bite your nails, edge of your seat terrifying thriller. Impossible to put down. 99 people get on a plane in Hawaii how many people get off the plane alive. The absolutely perfect summer vacation thriller is here!

Excellent story of survival, suspense, grief, and connection. This takes us on the journey of a plane crash as our characters try to survive as the plane is submerged in water with limited resources and dwindling air. It is a race against time as those inside the plane, who started as strangers and slowly become family, and those above land implement rescue initiatives.

Great character development, suspense building, and also telling a story of what is really important to us when we face the potential end. Well written and fast read.

Thank you to Simon and Shuster and netgalley for this arc of Drowning. Drowning was an intense book that was so hard to put down. The characters in the story were so awesome and I fell in love with them and were rooting for them throughout the whole story, The technical details of the books added to the story and has to be written in a way for them to exist. T.J. Newman is an awesome author who has written two books with one word titles but, they are both stand alone books. I love forward to reading more books from this author.

Thank you to Avid Reader Press and NetGalley for the ARC! TJ Newman has done it again! This high stakes novel will have you on the edge of your seat and give you whiplash from flipping pages faster than you can physically read them. This was even better than her debut, Falling. Fast paced and never slowing down, a perfect binge read. I cannot wait to read her next book. 4.5 stars!

5 star read! If my life would have allowed I’d have read this novel in one sitting! From page one I was taken on a wild flight and I was along for the ride with every word. Beauty storytelling and well developed characters made me fully invested in the novel. I will recommend this to friends.

4.5 stars! I loved T.J. Newman's debut and this is an amazing follow-up novel! Definitely an effective summer thriller. If you want to be captivated and unable to put a book down, this is the book for you. T.J. Newman's novels are great reads in that they are propulsive and spectacular! She seems to have such an ability to balance propulsive plots and character development in that perfect way! It's not done well by many but T.J. Newman seems to do it effortlessly! I know absolutely nothing about aviation and this author explains complex concepts around aviation with ease. This is definitely a perfect vacation read (although I don't know that I'd read it on an airplane) and would be a perfect beach read as it is fast-moving and unputdownable! If you're a thriller fan, you don't want to miss this one (or her debut, Falling)!
