The author has followed her mega-hit first novel with a sensational second novel. “Drowning” is a thriller that involves a family coping with its own tragedy and an airplane that ditches in the ocean slowly after takeoff from Hawaii. With Father and Daughter among the passengers, Mom leads a rescue. Both face opposition as we meet many well-developed characters who really come alive under the author’s master hand.

Really enjoyed this one - thanks to Netgalley and Avid Reader Press for the advanced copy. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time! Great character development, crazy plot, twists and turns that seemed completely plausible given the scenario. Cudos to Newman on her second novel, it was better than her first!

What a rush! If you haven’t read this one yet, I highly recommend dropping everything now for this fast-paced, exhilarating, emotional book! I’ve never read anything quite like this and this is definitely one of my favorites of the year! I alternated between the audiobook (fantastic narration) and e-book and finished it in two days though it can easily be read in one sitting!

As a fan of the tv show ‘Air Disasters’, this was exactly what I hoped for! A good mix of personalities…and karma (sorry not sorry, Andy). A weekend page turner for sure!

I didn't read Newman's first book, Falling, but after Drowning I'm looking forward to picking it up. This one is filled with edge of your seat excitement.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced digital copy.

Wow. This book. I HAD to read it in under 48 hours because it was that captivating! I don’t think I’ve felt the need to finish a book so fast since I can remember! I felt like I was holding my breath the entire time! We get the perspective of the people inside the plane as well as those outside and both views were equally great and only added to the suspense that kept building throughout the entire story. The knowledge about planes the author added was a little over my head 😅 but it certainly makes the imagery realistic. The story truly makes you wonder 💭 about what you would do in that situation. Bravo 👏🏽 to the author!! Such a great read and truly recommend this read to everyone! I cannot stress in words how great this book was in my opinion! 5 glowing ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!!!

Drowning by T.J. Newman had me annoyed every time I had to put it down, I anxiously wanted to know what happened next without waiting! This is an absolute page turner and I don't think I will be taking a flight over any body of water any time soon. I look forward to seeing Drowning adapted into a movie and will most likely be just as anxious as I was while reading it.
Thank you to Avid Reader Press and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC.

I am glued to this book to see what happens next! I enjoyed hearing some of Will's and Chris's backstory, and I was hoping to hear more characters' stories. It was really interesting to hear all of the different creative problem-solving ideas. I loved how close and cooperative the characters (except that one guy... what a jerk!) became over the course of their ordeal. Drowning was a riveting story. I could imagine it becoming a great movie, if done well. The descriptions felt very cinematic to me.

I finished this book in one sitting. Great summer read. The subject matter of the books in these series (or perhaps the books written by the author) are reminiscent of Robin Cook or Andy Weir books. I enjoyed how the reader is in the middle of the drama from the first line. The rest of the story unfolds as the book progresses. I was invested in the characters and enjoyed the nail biting suspense of how the different characters would fare

WOW. This book gave me so much anxiety. It’s so intense, has you on the edge of your seat, chewing your nails off, and unable to put it down until the very end. It makes the thought of flying a bit terrifying.
Six minutes after taking off from Hawaii, the flight crashes into the ocean. Some people are dead. Others are panicking. But Will, an engineer, even under such distress, flying with his daughter, thinks through the best way for people to survive. Only some listen to him.
They only have a few hours of oxygen remaining as they sink underwater trapped in the plane.
As the Navy and Coastguard try to figure out the safest way to get to the few remaining passengers out alive. Stress is high. Everyone tries to take on a role to stay sane. Multiple attempts are tried and fail as time ticks down.
This story isn’t just about how stressful and terrifying this situation is, but also hits on grief and loss, love, and kindness.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

So, maybe the choice to read this on a recent flight wasn’t the best idea, but reading it was. This book was completely gripping from the first page to the last. I’m not sure the intensity let up even for a second (although, that’s not to say there weren’t moments of levity and connection, as we humans tend to react to stressful situations in extraordinary ways). Be prepared to read it in one sitting, and sob your way through,

Drowning is an intense and captivating summer suspense/thriller. It had me in the edge of my seat and my heart racing. The characters were relatable and their stories were heartbreaking and hopeful. I enjoyed this exciting and emotional reading experience.

What an intense read! TJ Newman has made it to auto-buy-author status, her writing is absolutely incredible. I laughed, I cried, I could not put it down! Could easily see this becoming a movie or series, highly recommend!

OMG just when you think nothing can top the author's previous novel, along comes one that is even more suspenseful and captivating. That is the story with Drowning!
Imagine you have just taken off on a flight and within minutes the plane crashes into the ocean. This is what happens. The flight attendants know all the procedures but have thankfully never had to implement them until now. Just when it looks like the majority of passengers will be able to be saved through life rafts etc. one engine blows up and the surrounding water is on fire with dire consequences to those outside the plane. This also causes what is left of the plane to sink with a handful of passengers still inside.
This was such a great read! Just when you think things are turning for the better, T J Newman throws in another desperate situation time after time. I could literally see the plot in my head while I was reading this book, I hope to goodness that the rights to this one have also been acquired as they have with Falling, it would make a fantastic movie!
If you enjoy page turning, edge of your seat reads then this is the one for you, don't walk, run to your nearest bookseller or library and read it, you won't be sorry!
Many thanks go to Simon & Schuster and Net Galley for the copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

And Breathe!!!! WoW!!!!!!
Drowning: The Rescue of Flight 1421 by T. J. Newman was one of the Best books I have read this year. It just took my breath away several times and had me sitting on the edge of my seat most of the way through it. I wont say it's a great holiday read especially if you're flying!!! lol. But a Superb book from start to finish. It will not disappoint!
Drowning starts off with a Bang!!! WoW.........So, fasten your seat belts it's going to be a safe journey, We have clear skies for your next destination! But, Don't be fooled! Hope you're sitting comfortably!
Only six minutes after take off, Flight 1421 crashes into the Pacific Ocean. During the evacuation of the passengers, an engine explodes and the plane starts to flood! There are people still alive and they are forced to close the doors, it's all happening so quickly but it’s too late. The plane quickly sinks to the bottom of the sea, with twelve passengers trapped inside.
The plane is now, more than two hundred feet below the sea surface, an engineer called Will Kent and his eleven year old daughter called Shannon are waist deep in water and fighting for their lives.
But, their only chance at survival is for an elite rescue team on the surface which is led by professional diver called Chris Kent.
Shannon’s mother and Will’s soon to be ex-wife, must work together with Will to find a way to save their daughter and rescue the passengers from the sealed airplane, which is now teetering on the edge of an undersea cliff.
Time is running out for them all...........Tick Tock............There's less air in the damaged plane as time passes by...........The clock is still ticking!!!
Will the Elite rescue team and Chris Kent save them in time? Tick Tock!!!
Will the twelve passengers and crew going to breath fresh air and see the sun ever again?
WoW!!!! this book is So good! I loved it.
I highly recommend Drowning....Superb Book from start to finish! If I could give this book 10 stars I would.
Big Thank you to Netgalley and especially Avid Reader Press, Avid Reader Press / Simon & Schuster for my copy.

If you have plans to do anything = like sleeping - do not start reading this book. It's truly a 'can't put it down' book. I started reading it late last night, forced myself to stop reading and sleep for a couple hours, then finished it this afternoon.
The setting is familiar to anyone who has flown and the characters are realistic. The author does a great job of keeping the suspense and action evenly distributed and I found myself holding my breath during most of the book. The story may be similar to other airline disaster books but it's the best of it's kind I've ever read.
The descriptions make everything come alive and I'll be surprised if there's not a movie made with this excellent book

Six minutes after take-off from Honolulu, Flight 1421 has a fatal mechanical explosion and crashes into the ocean. Passengers and crew start a water evacuation only to find conditions are fatal due to the massive amount of jet fuel burning strongly in the water. Twelve passengers make a split second decision to quickly seal the plane and stay inside. Until the plane starts to sink....
WOW. Drowning opened with a (literal) bang and never let up until the last sentence! For once I actually let out a breath I didn't know I was holding multiple times (if you know, you know). This was a heart-racing, heart exploding, clear your calendar type read. It had it all -- action, drama, tears, a few chuckles. This book was so much more than an action movie with chapters. It was simply incredible. This author managed to create an amazing story, extremely likeable characters, massive heart palpitation moments, and tears?? Dang, I'll buy up everything you write!
A huge thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for approval of this ARC in exchange for my honest review. This book is not one to be missed!!!

My thanks to Avid Reader Press and NetGalley for an e-ARC of this book.
Minutes after taking off, Flight 1421 crashes into the ocean. When an engine explodes during evacuation, a dozen passengers close the doors and hope they survive - but the plane is flooding and sinking. Will and his daughter Shannon can only hope that Chris, his wife and her mom, uses her expertise to find a way to save them before it’s too late.
This is a strong follow-up to TJ Newman’s debut, and is even better in my opinion. With its high stakes and pulse pounding plot, this feels like an action movie put to paper.

I’m probably in the minority here considering the fanfare this book has been getting lately, but for me this was just ok. There wasn’t anything major wrong with it per se, it just didn’t wow me like I expected it to based upon the hype. Now, to be fair, that can be said about a lot of books-the more hype it gets, the more I end up disliking it. I did not dislike this book at all. I liked it. Didn’t love it.
Will is accompanying his daughter to camp when their flight goes down into the Pacific Ocean just minutes after take off. There are 99 passengers on the plane but only 12 of them survive the crash after it hits the water. They need to work together as the plane begins to sink beneath the surface.
Chris is a civil engineer who is super brilliant at working on aircraft and watercraft. She is working on a huge project when she gets word of the plane crash and immediately goes into action in order to try and save those on board in hopes that her daughter and ex-husband might still be alive.
The story is told from the POV of the survivors inside the aircraft trying to survive and Chris and the Navy, etc who are working to save them. There’s a lot of technical terminology and parts of it went over my head.
I could definitely see this becoming a movie.
Thanks to Avid Reader Press and NetGalley for this eArc in exchange for my review.

She’s done it again! I read this book in 4 hours. Couldn’t put it down. It’s a top notch, edge of your seat, tug at your heart blockbuster race against time. A place crashes intact and sinks with some survivors still on board, but they’re running out of oxygen and rescuers have to come up with a plan for a situation they’ve Never encountered before. Just as she did with “Falling” she makes you never want to step foot on a plane ever again. 🤣 It’s clear why there was such a crazy bidding war for the rights. It will make one hell of a tense movie. Read it!
