This book had me sunburned by the pool because I wouldn't put it down long enough to move!

Will and his young daughter, Shannon, board a commercial airline in Hawaii with 97 other people and it crashes into the water minutes after take off. Of the survivors, very few make it out into the water and survive. Twelve passengers led by Will and Co-Pilot Kit, lock themselves into the plane as it sinks to the ocean floor. The remainder of the book is an edge of your seat rescue operation while they are running out of air and time. All this is mixed with the interactions of those left on the plane as they face death but work together to survive.

I gave this book ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. I could not put it down! I really can't think of a person in my life who would not like it. It would make a good Father's Day gift. Your teenager might enjoy reading with this book! It was gripping with constant action but was also about how we face our mortality and who steps up and who doesn't. T.J. Newman did such an amazing job keeping us hanging in this book!

Thank you to NetGalley and Avid Reader Press for a free copy of this book in exchange for a fair review!

Wow, Drowning was a fast paced thriller and if it weren’t for work and sleep I wouldn’t have been able to put it down. It is very intense and is adrenaline packed as everyone fights for survival. It was very tragic and heart breaking but also very human and hopeful. It was a crazy ride and it brought out so many different emotions.

There were a few things that seemed to be too convenient and a few other things that just didn’t seem all that plausible even for this level of a dire situation. But all in all Drowning is a solid thriller and perfect for thriller fans everywhere but at the same time there should be a trigger warning on this book as it was very intense at times.

I highly recommend this book and will be first in line when it is turned into a movie.

Drowning by TJ Newman was a fast paced, exciting, terrifying, wild ride of a book.
I finished, it if not in one siting (I have kids who want to get fed periodically),yet in a single day.
The plot was compelling, the characters relatable and the tension continuously high.
Overall it felt reminiscent of the action movies I grew up watching. Armageddon under water anyone? Look no further!
I loved everything about this, except for the bit at the very end, though saying any more would be considered spoiler territory. Almost perfect, so close... 4 stars from me, but it very nearly made it to 5.
I'm already hyped for the next book by the author!

Wow what a way to start a novel! Page one, and the plane’s engine is already on fire. The crash is imminent. Then after crashing, the survivors are trapped in the now flooded plane. Such a great thriller, I was on the end ge of my seat the entire time!!

This was one of the best fast-paced thrillers I've read in a long time. A plane crashes off the coast of Hawaii into the Pacific Ocean and so many things go wrong -for the people trying to survive and for the people trying to rescue them. There are some horrible parts where people die in gruesome ways. Lots of people die. Very few survive. It makes you wonder how you would react if you were ever in a tragic situation like this.

After you get past the first few chapters and ALL this different POV's, it becomes an action-packed thriller that's hard to put down. Devastating, Emotional and Unforgettable.

Falling by TJ Newman was the most exciting thriller I’ve ever read, and I thought nothing could possibly compare to it. I was wrong. Drowning is a heart pounding thrill a minute book. What happens when a jetliner crashes, sinks to the bottom of the ocean (well, not the bottom but pretty far down), and there are people on board who need to be rescued from an impossible situation? From the people above the waterline to the people below the waterline, Newman creates a cast of characters who make you care about them and the circumstances that brought them together. A great read.

Wow! TJ Newman did it again. Clear concise storyline with character development that fit the pace of the plot.

Extremely entertaining and addictive. Similar to the intense movie ready novel, Cold Storage by David Koepp. Both books kept me up way past my bedtime and the writing was vivid and engaging. Each character was well developed and the motivations clear. There were also parts that reminded me of the 2022 movie Thirteen Lives about the real life rescue of the Thai soccer team stranded in a flooded cave. If you love that movie I strongly recommend this book and vice versa.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Last year, I read TJ Newman’s Falling and enjoyed it. When I came across this, I was immediately interested. Browsing the summary and reviews, I saw a reference to The Poseidon Adventure, and knew it was a must read!

This was a great adventurous escape into disaster fiction. Nothing controversial or political, just some minute by minute action with characters you can’t help rooting for. Will and Chris’ love for their daughter and their desire to save her keeps you on the edge of your seat. You want them to save the day, be forced to work together, and save their relationship in the meantime. Those desires go through a painstaking back and forth from cover to cover. I laughed, I cried, and I read every chance I got until I made it to the end.

Highly recommend for fans of disaster fiction. Suitable for teens and adults. No sex, no drugs, no politics, limited adult language (honestly I can’t remember any, but I wouldn’t be surprised if someone swore based on the situation they were going through). The action keeps things moving, which makes this read like a shorter novel than this is.

Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced copy. (Though this was released by the time I finished it).

“The passengers who’d survived the crash thought it was a miracle. They thought they were the lucky ones.
They had no idea that the worst was yet to come.”

If you asked me what my worst fear is in this life, I would have written you this book. Omg. 🥴

Whyyy do I do this to myself? I swear my blood pressure sustained at unsafe levels throughout this entire novel. If you are looking for a pulse pounding, can’t put it down, edge of your seat thriller…look no further! This book is what descriptions like that were made for.

“Five percent. The sunlight zone made up only 5 percent of the ocean. After that . . .
Twilight.
Midnight.
The abyss.
The trenches.” 😫

Yet again T.J. Newman writes a book that has me feeling like I watched a movie. My chest was tight. I could taste the salt water. Just SO good and SO real it’s scary. Well done. Sorry for all of the quotes but they’re just too good.

“That was all life was. Shifting the balance, every day, to make room for joy and grace in whatever circumstances you’ve got before your time runs out.”

Thank you to Netgalley, Avid Reader Press, Simon & Schuster, and the author for the ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Good characters that kept me engaged and was a good read. Well written fiction about a passenger plane crashing and sinking off the coast of Hawaii and the ensuing rescue. The end left me hanging and was ultimately dissatisfying, only my opinion.

I was so excited to win a copy of Drowning (thank you Avid Reader Press/Peloton Mom's Book Club!) and it did not disappoint!

The action started on page one and didn't stop until the very end. The characters were all well-developed and you really learned to care for them over the course of the book. TJ Newman did a great job of invoking emotion in a highly distressing situation, but there were also moments of lightness and even humor throughout. I could see this being adapted for the screen in the future and think this would make a great movie.

Drowning is one of the most anticipated books of 2023. The book did not disappoint. I read Falling and Drowning is even better. T.J. Newman will be added to my auto-buy list.

Just Terrific..
A plane ride turns disaster in just a few minutes in this tumultuous journey into the unknown. Flight 1421 is going down, that seems a foregone conclusion - what is not, is what exactly happens when the plane crash lands into the ocean. It will be beyond anyones worst nightmare. As expected, this is a rollercoaster from first to last page with a tremendously well done cast of credible characters, a horrifyingly well painted and claustrophobic setting and a terrifying premise which fully delivers in every respect. The authors first outing was outstanding and, dare it be said, this trumps the debut. Just terrific.

Minutes after take off, flight 1421 crashes in the Pacific. This story follows different characters and their journey during the disaster. I went into this blind and thought the “thriller” aspect of the story meant there HAD to be a murder. I was mistaken lol. It’s more of a rescue mission and action packed. You do become intrigued by one of the families stories, and it’s pretty gut wrenching.

I give it to TJ Newman—you can tell she has experience in the airline industry (former flight attendant) and did some heavy research for this novel. Honestly, I was kind of bored with all the specifics regarding the crash. Maybe it’s because I fly a decent amount and have a bit of flying anxiety, who knows.

Thank you Net Galley and Simon & Schuster for the ARC!

Prepare for absorbing tension and suspense from page one in Newman's gripping novel, Drowning. Your heart will pound, you will be on the edge of your seat, and you will have difficulty catching your breath. I am glad I braced myself and read this book. It would be a shame to write anything that would give away any of the events. I will just say that I, along with so many other readers, highly recommend this book for those who are drawn to well written thrillers.

T. J. Newman is a former flight attendant, whose writing career is soaring. Her plot in Drowning centers around the airplane crash of flight 1421off the coast of Hawaii. The character development and exploration of the relationships and interactions of the people on the plane, as well as the rescuers, is outstanding. I just put Newman's debut book, Falling, in a top spot on my audiobook listen list.

Thank you to Net Galley and Avid Reader Press, Avid Reader Press / Simon & Schuster for the advance reader's copy. My review is my own.

My most anticipated book of the summer DID NOT DISAPPOINT! This was a total adrenaline rush…and, surprisingly, it was emotional. I teared up more than once while reading this. Just like with Falling, this story starts out with a bang and does not let up till the final paragraph. In this one, Flight 1421 has engine problems just minutes after take off from Honolulu and, with no viable options, the plane is forced to “ditch” into the water (ditching is a new term I learned in this book!). I won’t get into much more of the synopsis or the characters, but I will say that the people in this story jumped off the page and right into my heart. I was rooting for them, I was mad at one of them, I was grieving with some, they completely came to life! And the family in distress that set the background had me biting my nails, hoping for survival, hoping for redemption. I still recommend Falling to anyone who asks (and those who aren’t asking) and now I’ll be recommending Drowning. I really can’t wait for TJ Newman’s next book, HURRY! My only real concern is just how sedated I’ll need to be next time I fly to Hawaii, lol! But seriously, grab an iced coffee, find a shady place in your backyard, and escape into this story sometime soon! Thank you Netgalley, Avid Reader Press and the author for this eARC in exchange for my honest review. This book was just released on May 30, 2023, RUN to get a copy, they are selling out everywhere!

Six minutes after takeoff, Flight 1421 crashes into the Pacific Ocean. During the evacuation, an engine explodes and the plane is flooded. Those still alive are forced to close the doors—but it’s too late. The plane sinks to the bottom with twelve passengers trapped inside.

This. Book. 🤯

I’ll start by saying I absolutely loved Falling, TJ’s debut release. Despite having a low key fear of flying I devoured it and then passed it around to all of my friends - who devoured it.

When I had the chance for an early release copy of drowning I bit their hand off to get into it. Somehow completed in 24 hours (despite working 12 of them!). This novel is the definition of twisty, I genuinely couldn’t stop reading. For a book that has one sole setting it’s riveting, well described and the depth of emotion is genius. Special props to @tj_author for her incredible extensive technical knowledge not just for the aircraft but submarines, navy protocol, undersea drilling, you name it. I was blown away by the depth and accuracy of the supporting information. It’s very hard to believe this is only her second novel. An absolute must buy author for me - I’d read anything this woman writes.

The most solid 5* read of the year for me so far.

TJ Newman is phenomenal. This book captures so many emotions and yes even laughter in such a dark place. The character development is so strong with such likeable characters…besides the asshole. (We all know who he is.) The suspense and adrenaline pulls you through the fast paced timeline and makes it insanely hard to stop reading because you are RIGHT THERE in the story with the characters and cannot stop until you know they’re all okay. I wasn’t sure how this could top Falling, but it did. All the suspense. All the feels. I loved every second of it!

Drowning was nonstop suspense from start to finish. I had heard that when you start it, you finish it in one sitting, and I see why! I thought all of the characters were really interesting and well-written. I am not exaggerating when I say that this book reads like a movie- I could see the scenes playing out in my mind and I really hope I’ll get to see it on the big screen one day.

This was my first book by T.J. Newman, and now I’m planning to read Falling next. The author is a former flight attendant, which I think lends itself to why a lot of the details of the plane were completely realistic. I might not be able to fly for awhile, especially over Hawaii!

A sincere thank you to netgalley and Avid Reader Press for this electronic arc.
