Shortly after takeoff, a plane crashes into the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Hawaii. Some of passengers are thrown into the water before the plane sinks, trapping 12 passengers. What follows is a harrowing tale of survival, as the passengers only have several hours of air left, water is seeping into the plane, and rescue crews are stymied as they try and find a way to reach the sunken plane. Drowning is the apt title of this second book from author TJ Newman, whose debut effort, Falling, was a commercial success. While I wasn’t a fan of that book, Drowning is a total blast from start to finish, with edge of your seat suspense, a great mix of characters, and Poseidon Adventure-type thrills, all set against a ticking clock that just heightens the suspense even more. Non-stop action in this one, not to be missed, loved it! I received an ARC of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Six minutes after takeoff, flight 1421 crashes into the Pacific Ocean. During evacuation, an engine explodes and the plane floods. Those still alive are forced to close the doors seconds before the plane sinks to the bottom with twelve passengers inside. At more than 200 feet below the surface, Will and his daughter, Shannon are among the other survivors treading water inside the sunken plane. Their only chance at survival is in the hands of Chris, Shannon’s mother, and her team above the surface with a plan.

This book was so intense and unputdownable. I found myself eagerly turning pages well into the night to discover what happened. I thought I figured it out, but even on the last page I was thrown for a loop.
This book hit every emotion and my anxiety was through the roof (in a good “edge of your seat” type of way) until the end.
This was my first T.J. Newman book, but with how good this one was, I am planning on reading her first book, Falling, soon!

T.J. Newman's debut novel was a nail biting read that I (and a lot of other people) couldn't put down. I've been eagerly awaiting her second book - Drowning. You always wonder if an author can bring another great read to the table after a best selling first book? Newman does....in spectacular fashion.
So, you might be wondering about why the book is called Drowning. Well, it's another book about a plane in trouble, this time having to make a crash landing - on, or should I say in, water.

Some make it off the plane, and some don't. Newman gives us a core group of survivors. They're a mixed bunch of personalities, ages, backgrounds and more. One of them is engineer Will Kent - and the second is his young daughter. Can he figure out a way to get out? Or does he have to wait for the government to come up with a solution? Will isn't a patient man - not when lives are at stake. The book is told from two points of view - those up top and those still in the plane.

The tension in this book is crazy - almost every chapter ends on a cliffhanger. Newman knows how to write suspense! Her personal bio gives her writing that ring of believability. Why? Well she was a flight attendant for 10 years.

I can see this one as a movie. A film for Falling is already in the works.

"Drowning", TJ Newman's latest thriller DELIVERS! When flight 1421 goes down into the ocean only minutes after taking off, the race is on to save as many passengers as they can. This was such a quick read for me, the chapters were short and constantly ended leaving you hanging so you just HAD to keep reading. I found the character development to be so great, especially when I was just expecting a disaster thriller. There were so many curves and turns along the way for both the passengers and the rescuers to struggle through. My only, very slight, complaint was the level of description given to the plane and science behind the rescue mission attempts. I felt myself re-reading those sections trying to grasp an understanding of a field I have absolutely no knowledge in. Besides that, this was a phenomenal thriller that I just could not put down. I also am so glad I did not read this before taking off on any trips by plane!

Drowning by T.J. Newman--this is an excellent new thriller! Minutes after takeoff in Hawaii a plane crashes into the ocean. A dozen passengers remain in the plane as it sinks to the ocean floor, a few hours of air trapped with them. Will they all be rescued in time? If you are up for a disaster thriller, pick up Drowning. It releases today, May 30. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the advance digital copy.

I would be super cranky if I received most any other book 4 days before release day. But having also received an ARC of Newman’s first book, Falling, I knew I would finish this in one sitting. Newman’s sophomore novel does not disappoint. It’s every bit of the non-stop action, heart pumping stress that Falling is.

Secondary to the nightmare of being on a plane that’s going down, no one wants to be trapped in an aircraft under the water. Things go from bad to worse as they struggle to maintain the oxygen in the plane, and their rescuers struggle to find a feasible way to rescue the survivors.

Newman writes in a way that hooks the reader from the very first page. It’s often difficult to pull off, but she does it so well. This book was a blast. Things get tense on the very first page and take off running. The characters were a lot of fun, even Andy, who I wanted to reach into the pages and smack. You become invested in their lives and hope for the best.

Many thanks to Avid Reader Press for sending this my way!

I expected a propulsive page turner, but I found Drowning to be, frankly, boring. It was too predictable to be the heart pounding ride it claimed to be, and the characters were too flat to connect to them in any way. I also didn’t like that the book relied on a racial stereotype as a plot point for one of the characters.

I know many readers will enjoy this book, but it didn’t work for me at all.

Thanks to Netgalley and Avid Reader Press for the eARC for review.

Thank you so much Netgalley, Avid Reader Press & TJ Newman for the ARC of this book

When I say this book hooked me from the start - that is an understatement. I started this book at 11:30pm and had to PULL myself away from my kindle at 60% to sleep. I was so excited to finish it off today and I flew through it.

This was such a thrilling read with action, emotional punches and a super addictive plot. It was such a refreshing thriller that reads like a movie you can binge in one sitting.

TJ Newman has gained a new fan from this book and I can't wait to spread the word!

WOW!! PHENOMENAL!! BLOWN AWAY!!
Though I wasn't surprised as I absolutely LOVED Falling by the same author.

Drowning is an incredibly intense, fast paced suspense thriller that grabs the reader from the very first line (as Falling did). This rollercoaster of a book had my heart in my throat the whole way through. So so good! There is also an emotional element to this story, which I liked very much.

T. J. Newman, you are my new favourite author. Bring on the next one!!

A big thank you to NetGalley and Simon and Schuster for an ARC of Drowning to read and review.

When I read her first novel, I was coincidentally listening to a different hijacking book but this time this was my only plane crash read.

Let me start with a really like this book but I can’t help thinking it could be spectacular if only, and I have no idea what I should add here.

I am glad I don’t have a summer vacation planned as I would not want to fly.

This was just over a day for me from start to finish. It’s incredibly suspenseful as both the trapped passengers and the outside world work to save them. You wouldn’t have a book if at least some of them aren’t rescued but you are never sure which ones will live through the ordeal.

There was a moment at the end that brought tears to my eyes and another that made think hmm.

I did rotate this as an audiobook in during my cleaning and I almost grimace anymore when there are celebrities narrating the book but I was pleasantly surprised with this one. I think they are so used to being the star and can overshine the story but both Stephen Weber and Laura Benanti nailed it.

But the best endorsement I can give is bingeing this in just over a day.

I’d add this to your tbr right after you get back from your summer vacation.

What happens when a plane crashes into the water off the coast of Hawaii?? In this thrilling story, we follow the remaining passengers and crew members as they try to survive. This is a must read in one sitting! You won’t want to put it down once you start.

Thank you NetGalley and Avid Reader Press for proving this book on exchange for my honest review.

Thanks to Netgalley for an ARC of this book.

If you enjoyed Newman’s debut, Falling, last summer, you’ll enjoy this one too.

Drowning is the story of a commercial airline flight from Hawaii to California that crashes moments into its flight. The novel starts with a passenger noticing the engine fire so we really jump right into the action. Sadly this does not work out like Sully’s landing in the Hudson River. After the crash, most of the passengers evacuate, but some remain onboard and the plane sinks. What follows is the story of the passengers trying to survive and also the story of the Navy, Coast Guard and others above ground trying to rescue the passengers.

It’s very fast moving, enjoyable and I could see it as a movie actually.

In this fast paced sophomore novel, T.J. Newman brings readers to the edge of their seats. The novel begins with a plane engine explosion and doesn’t let the reader fully take a breath until the last page of the book. Told through multiple points of view, the plane crash and subsequent submersion are detailed and emotionally gripping. The main perspectives though are Will, an engineer and passenger, and his wife, Chris, a professional diver who is on the rescue team. There is one flashback chapter to get their backstory, but the rest of the story takes places within the four hour time limit of oxygen available in the submerged plane.

I usually don’t write my reviews in first person, but this book made me feel all the emotions. I cried within the first ten percent of this book, and cried again several times. I shook with fear; I hyperventilated with the divers during the rescue mission. I read this in one afternoon; I didn’t want to put it down. According to my Kindle, I read this in just about four hours, about the same amount of time as the setting of the book. I highly recommend.

OMG!! This book was wild from the get go! When I received this books the LAST thing I thought I’d do was cry but I spent the last chapter and a half silently crying as I stayed up way past my bedtime finishing it! I could not put it down!!! About 3/4 of the way through I felt like this would be a 4⭐️ read but the last few chapters, WOOOWEEE…you have to read this book. Suspense, detail, heart-tugging characters. It had it all

Drowning by T.J. Newman. Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for this advanced reader copy. This is the second book for flight attendant turned author, T.J. Newman, and once again, I was compulsively turning the pages. Flight 1421 departs Honolulu and crash lands into the ocean within minutes. Many passengers and crew survive the impact and quickly negotiate survival. However, then the engine explodes and twelve passengers are trapped inside as the plane slowly sinks. We follow along as the Navy and Coast Guard mount a rescue mission. It felt like I was reading a Bruce Willis movie from the late 1980’s (that’s a compliment). Thumbs up for this one - just don’t read it on a plane! Publication date is tomorrow, May 30!

Newman is a genius! And her cover art is spectacular!
I loved her debut Falling. Seriously couldn’t stop once I started. And it was no different with her newest upcoming title.
Drowning by T. J. Newman is fast-paced, thrilling, action packed and impossible to put down.
An exciting well written thriller that will have you perched on the edge of your seat.
With excellent, relatable characters and a mindblowing plot that unleashes twist after wicked twist, this is a thriller with never a dull moment, the type that makes you hold your breath without even realising it.
This is a riveting, compulsive and completely nail-biting thriller and as well as moving at a rapid-fire pace.
I love that she adds authenticity to the plot and action all around.
These definitely deserve to be on the big screen!

Thanks to netgalley for the opportunity to read this book for an honest review. I really enjoyed this on the edge of my seat action thriller. I am not sure I want to get on a plane again after reading this. I enjoyed the authors writing style.

Drowning was the follow up novel to Falling. This book tells the story of a plane crash and time is of the essence to try and save the lives on the passengers still tapped inside it. The race is on to save them before the plane sinks and they are pulling out all the stops to find a solution.

So I was very excited to read this one after reading Falling and absolutely loving it. I’ve always had a fear of flying but I was still drawn to read this book. I thought this one was just average and I did not enjoy it as much as Falling. I thought the plane crash event happened too quickly and the character development was lacking. This was a let down after hearing such great reviews from others and as I said the authors debut novel was so good. As always I recommend giving books a chance and just because it wasn’t for me doesn’t mean you won’t like it

Drowning was a propulsive thriller that held my attention on the edge of my seat from the very beginning. Could not put it down!!

The book we have all been waiting for! Falling was such a big hit. Almost like watching a very suspenseful movie. This second book just proves what a talent she is! So let’s talk about it!

Flight 1421 has just left Hawaii with Will Kent, an engineer, and his 11-year-old daughter, Shannon among the passengers. Trying to spend some quality time together. But six minutes into the flight, the plane crashes in the Pacific Ocean.

The evacuation is anything but smooth and when the engine explodes, those already outside of the plane will probably not fare well.

With the engine gone, the plane rapidly sinks with the remaining passengers including Will and his daughter. About two hundred feet below the surface, they must now wait for rescue before the plane can tip over the shelf.

The rescue team is led by Will’s wife, well soon-to-be ex-wife, Chris and they are going to have to work together to get the passengers to safety. Although how in the world they are going to do that with a sealed plane 200 feet down, I could only guess.

Another nail-biting suspenseful ride! Very Well Done!
