A wild ride that will have you holding your breath, crying, and thinking about the worst possible scenarios and that's just what happens in the first few chapters.
Will and Chris have gone through every parent's worst nightmare and are barely hanging on. When their daughter Shannon has to get on a plane to go to camp Chris wants to let her go on her own but Will wants to go with her.

Just a few moments into the flight the worst possible thing happens and then the clock starts ticking, ticking away the air they have to breathe and ticking away the seconds until hope is lost.

While Chris is doing everything she can to get her company on the scene to try a recovery the powers that be are standing in the way, but as you know you don't get between a momma bear and her cub and she doesn't give in, not even when it puts her own life in danger.

This heart-pounding thriller will have you holding onto your seat while you go through this horrifying ordeal. I can't count the number of times I had actual chills reading this book.

Thank you to Avid Reader Press and NetGalley for providing an advance copy of this E-Book, I have voluntarily read and reviewed it and all thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is going to be one of the hottest books this summer, I just know it! @tj_author is back with another aviation thriller - this time flight 1421 face catastrophic failure minutes after take off and the pilots are forced to ditch the plane in the ocean. Passengers begin to exit but one passenger, Will, realizes that exiting is a death sentence due to engine fires and oil leaks - he urges anyone who will listen to lock themselves in the plane and take their chances, even if the plane sinks.

Covering topics like grief, child loss, sibling loss, divorce, regret - ugh this book is seriously a phenomenal read of the human experience and will make you want to run and hug your people.

Bravo TJ!! Loved this one! ✈️

This is a must read. I was on edge the entire time and was glad I had time to read in one sitting because it’s that good. I loved the underwater aspect.

This book hooked me from the jump, it reads like a movie in text form! I initially held off requesting this because i never got around to ‘Falling’ on my tbr and thought this was a direct sequel but after TJ was on Ryan Steck’s twitch channel and confirmed it was not a sequel and gave the plot summary I immediately had to try everything I could ti get my hands on an advanced copy and I’m so glad I did! This book is about an air disaster on the surface but it’s more about love, family and grief the “ditch” is just the vehicle for the writer to explore these themes and my GOD did she crush it! I mainly ready military thrillers and crime fiction but this has opened my mind to try other stuff and I’ll DEFINITELY be reading more TJ Newman in the future! You can definitely see why this was optioned for a film but I’ll be honest, I know if a movie can do this justice it’s literally THAT good!

From the author of Falling (and I think it's even better than Falling, if that's possible)

Flight 1421 crashes into the Pacific Ocean only minutes after take off. During the attempted evacuation, an engine explodes and the doors have to be shut. And the plane sinks to the bottom of the ocean.

Will Kent and his 11-year old daughter, Shannon, are two of the passengers that go down with the plane. Will is a brilliant engineer. His soon-to-be ex-wife is a genius and professional diver, who has stepped in on the rescue efforts.
****************************************
Here's my disclaimer. Don't sit down to read this until you're ready to be there until you finish. It's impossible to put down. You become super attached to (most of 🤣) these characters and you feel stuck on this plane with them.

Strong family dynamic element. Very well shows the extent of the love of a parent for their child. Gives you some faith back in humanity.

Drowning is the epitome of what you NEVER want to experience once you’re inside an airplane, but 10x worse. Are you kidding me here? I actually FELT like I was running out of air while reading/listening to this book. What a thrill. I loved Falling and this might’ve been even better! It’s a quick and short read but packed to the brim with action and scary scenes.

Whoo-HOO! This was an exciting, cinematic, tighten-your-seatbelt thriller. Picture a summer blockbuster movie...only in bookish form. There were likable characters you cared about, a fast-moving plot, danger, drama, a few weepy moments, warmth, resiliency, and a scrappy team that pulled together in an impossible situation. It was so exciting I had to pick up a different book to read in bed; I didn’t dare read this one after dinner.

Summary: “Six minutes after takeoff, Flight 1421 crashes into the Pacific Ocean. During the evacuation, an engine explodes and the plane is flooded. Those still alive are forced to close the doors—but it’s too late. The plane sinks to the bottom with twelve passengers trapped inside.”

QOTD: How do you feel about flying? I hate all of it. The delays, cramped quarters, dehydration, turbulence, tiny airplanes, gigantic airports, flying over water, all of it. My hat is off to flight attendants everywhere!

I have been waiting to get my hands on a copy of TJ Newman’s new novel, Drowning, since I finished Falling. I have to admit, my anxiety kicked in from the get go as you are immediately placed inside the plane when things go wrong. This tells you the talent and magic of Newman’s storytelling and knowledge of planes. I’m not going to so much write a summary of the book because the published one is enough.

This book gets your adrenaline pumping. You are holding your breath for what happens to the passengers. You are cheering for the determination and teamwork of those trapped in the plane and those working to rescue them. This book will break your heart and then piece it back together. You will be transported to the different locations of the book as the chapters shift from the plane, to the boat, to the past. I really had a hard pause before writing this review because I don’t know that I have the words to sum up how it will make you feel. I had to put it down a few times and walk away because it was getting heavy, but it quickly sucked me back in to keep going. This should be your go-to summer read. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (Can I give it 10 stars?) And when this becomes a movie, may I suggest Pedro Pascal as Will?

Thank you to NetGalley and Avid Reader Press and Simon & Schuster for the advanced copy. Opinions expressed are my own. This book is set for publication on May 30, 2023.

✈️ Drowning is the second book by former flight attendant TJ Newman. She fills a niche that no other author can with her past experiences that make her novels so realistic even in unbelievable circumstances. She definitely has a talent for creating suspense!

🌊 In this book, disaster strikes when Flight 1421 departs from Hawaii and loses all power and engines shortly after takeoff. They are left with no alternative. The pilots will have to land the plane in the ocean. Next, the passengers must decide; will they take a chance and jump into the flaming ocean or barricade in the plane while it sinks beneath the waves?

✈️ For 12 passengers, their lives depend on the Navy, Coast Guard and independent contractors at the surface while their air pocket diminishes rapidly the longer they remain trapped in the plane. It’s amazing what you can learn about a person’s life during times of tragedy. TJ Newman shares quick anecdotes to allow the reader into the lives of each passenger before you find out who survives and who doesn’t.

🌊 This book was good, and I recommend it! However, between Drowning and her first book, Falling, I preferred Falling. It had more suspense and kept me on the edge of my seat more than this book did.

Thank you @netgalley and @simonandshuster for the advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I am in the minority here, but this book fell flat with me. I did not read the first book, Falling. All in all this was a well written book and a lot of suspense and a lot of focus on planes. So why didn't I like it? It was too much. Too much going on between the crash, the rescue, the plane terminology, the survivors. I felt totally overloaded. I will say that this will make a great movie. A Big Hit movie. It was just a lot to put into a book. I didn't care for the characters or the whole scene behind the rescue. However, I can see how it received such good reviews. Sometimes a book just isn't for me, and this one was that book. Thank you to Netgalley and Avid Reader Press for the ARC. I greatly appreciate it and do recommend this book.

Six minutes after takeoff, a flight crashes into the ocean. An engine explodes, spraying fuel all over the water and those that have already been evacuated are burned.

The plane floods with water, and sinks and by some miracle, the twelve passengers trapped inside are alive.

Will Kent and his daughter are aboard that plane, and it seems as though fate has intervened, Will's estranged wife, Chris, is assisting with the rescue.

Wowser!! I read "Falling" and it was a very tense novel, but oh boy!! This gripped my heart and I could feel every beat of fear and tension that was on board that plane!

It was, however, very technical, but I focused on the passengers and their feelings and part in the story instead. I have no knowledge of diving or undersea repairs, so let that slide.

All in all, it was a heart pounding thriller, very tense, and heart breaking as well.

I have to take a long journey later this year, and will have to hope and pray that I don't think about this book while on the plane.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

What. A. Rescue. It's hard to imagine a more exhilarating book in 2023. I can't say enough about the riveting read T. J. Newman has gifted us. Her debut novel was fantastic and now she has produced the dynamic Drowning. You realize immediately you won't put this book down until you reach the end. The plot is terrific and the book is populated with realistic characters. Once again, Newman's background (and network of friends) give her the ability to paint the picture of a flight incident with a realistic brush. It's also one of those books you know would make a great movie. That's inevitable. As is the fact Newman has proved she's the real deal. Falling was no fluke. Drowning might be even better. That's saying a lot. I can't wait to see what's next from this talent. Thank you to Avid Reader Press / Simon & Schuster & NetGalley for the advance reading copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

I finished this book in 24 hours. I had to. It kept me on the edge of my seat from page 1. Also, when I had to be away from my Kindle, I was reading it on my phone on my Kindle app. 5 stars is putting it lightly for this adrenaline rush of words. I will be thinking about this for a long time to come.

Drowning is the story of Flight 1421 as it crashes into the Pacific Ocean. Anything and everything that can go wrong does. A small group of passengers remain inside the plane as it sinks. As exciting and unnerving as that is, that is where the story actually begins. So much more is to come for the passengers waiting under the ocean.

Throughout the story we get a glimpse into the lives of the passengers as well as the people up above who are trying to save them. The story mainly focuses on Will and his daughter Shannon who are trapped in the plane and Chris, Will's soon-to-be ex-wife and Shannon's mother. Much of the story focuses on them, but there are other stories to tell here as well.

I am certainly not going to get into the specifics of this rescue mission. There is so much detail - but not too much that the reader gets lost. In fact, it made me more invested. There are way too many heart-pounding moments to count. Also, this book would make the most amazing transition to the big screen. This book plays out like a movie - I could see it in my mind in vivid detail. Finally, the ending is incredible, and the epilogue is perfect.

T.J. Newman is a former flight attendant whose experience makes her the best person to tell this story. Her attention to detail is unparalleled. She manages to make you hold your breath at times, as though you are under the water with these characters. This is the second novel I have read by her. She is an auto-buy author for me.

Thank you to NetGalley and Avid Reader Press for the advanced reader copy of this book. It realeases this week - May 30th. Pick up a copy and prepared to be unable to do anything until you turn the last page!

4.5 STARS - Drowning is a fast-paced heart pumping read that explodes with tension from the first page when Flight 1421 crashes into the ocean shortly after take-off. Readers are pulled into the experiences of the crew and passengers as they experience the crash and the horrific aftermath that sees many passengers perish while others continue to fight for their lives.

This is a well-researched, exhilarating read and Newman's years of experience as an airline attendant give this thriller an authentic feel. She includes many catastrophic instances that left me feeling like 'if anything can go wrong, it will' ... and it does! Readers will connect with the strong cast of characters - some you'll love and one you'll love to hate. I especially loved Chris Kent, a kick ass female underwater welder who has personal reasons for helping with the rescue.

My only beef is a medical aspect that affects my own family which I felt wasn't accurately portrayed. It always irks me when this life-threatening issue is given a quick fix when it's anything but (view spoiler)

This thriller kept me on the edge of my seat and my heart pumping with a story that features a handful of the catastrophes I most fear. Intense, exhilarating (and more than a little claustrophobic!), Drowning makes an excellent vacation read ... as long as you're not planning to get on a plane.

Another hit thriller from TJ Newman fuelling my fear of flying!
Minutes after take off flight 1421’s engine catches fire and with no other choice the pilot is forced to ditch into the Pacific Ocean. Some passengers die as the plane hits the water, some leave the plane by the emergency raft and some are left inside the aircraft.
Will, an engineer onboard with his eleven year old daughter ends up trapped inside the plane along with several other passengers and crew as it floods its water and sinks. A rescue mission is launched to rescue those trapped before the air trapped inside keeping them alive runs out, will they make it out alive or will the plane below the ocean become their final resting place.
Very tense thriller that had me holding my breath at points. Not a book for reading on a flight!

When a plane crashes shortly after take off, 12 passengers find themselves trapped inside the sinking plane. Will they survive or is this their end?
Wow! This was an edge of your seat page turner. The characters and story line held my attention from page one. I can easily see this becoming a Hollywood blockbuster movie. Thanks Netgalley for the ARC.

Tuesday May 30th will be a day that everyone should run to the nearest bookstore and get this book. TJ's follow up to Falling is just as good as that book was and this one may be better! The author ratchets up the tension and suspense in Drowning and make sure you do not have any plans for the rest of the day because once you start this book you will have to finish it.

Such an exciting book and I guarantee you will not be disappointed. A literal thrill ride that will keep you on the edge of your seat to the end of the amazing finish of the book! I look forward to what TJ writes next!

Thank you to @netgalley and @AvidReaderPress for this ARC. Flight 1421, just minutes after take off from Honolulu has an engine on fire. Due to the fire, all hydraulics and anything redundant is gone. The pilot has no choice than to "ditch" the plane into the ocean. If the passengers and crew can survive the crash landing, will they survive the ocean?
I don't think I have ever read a book that had my on the edge of my seat like this one. I was gasping for air, heart racing and couldn't read fast enough. Lordy, I am worn out! What an amazing thriller!!! TJ Newman knocked this out of the park. Her first book is a close second in thrills!! Will be out on Tuesday 5/30!

Obviously this author knows a lot about her subject matter but she's also an expert storyteller. Drowning is filled with action and suspense from beginning to end without any dull spots. The family connection is a bit farfetched but I let it slide because it does add to the suspense. This is the second book I've devoured by T.J. Newman and definitely won't be the last. Looking forward to her next adventure! My thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing a copy of this book for review. All opinions are my own.

I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I was a fan with this author when I devoured her debut novel, Falling. I read that in one sitting and had heart palpitations for a long time. I was excited to read the second book but wondered if it could match the first. Buckle up because your heart will beat loudly beginning on page one.

The description lets you know that the plane crashes after six minutes of takeoff and there are survivors who are sealed in the plane as it floats to the bottom of the ocean. The impact is pure panic inside the plane as there are quite a few survivors thanks to the skill of the pilot, however, Will who is flying with his daughter, Shannon, is an engineer and is convinced that the danger is greater outside of the plane due to the wind force in their location and the amount of fuel that was emptied. No one is listening to him, except the pilot and a few nervous passengers. They manage to seal themselves in the plane and slowly they submerge like a submarine. Will and Kit, the pilot, are hoping to be rescued. Kit has located and activated a rescue beacon and assures the passengers that help will be on the way.

Will's estranged wife, Chris, gets wind of the crash, where she is working as a contractor for the military which includes repairs for large commercial ships and carriers. The Coast Guard is the point of contact, and she manages to navigate her way to the point person, Fitz. She is determined to find out what the rescue strategy is for the submerged plane as she is certain that Will and Shannon are alive, and she has to get them. (Call it mother's intuition). Fitz is able to confirm this later in the story as Kit is able to access an emergency phone and make contact. I'm going to stop myself at this point as this is where the real roller coaster ride begins. While I felt the terror of the impact, the sinking, and the timeline, the author manages to connect you to the surviving passengers, and you are vested. Their strength is tested over and over again, and many find a way to rise to the challenge. The author brings in a layer to Will, Chris and Shannon's story that adds to the emotions, and it is huge.

The rescue attempts are heart pounding and sometimes heartbreaking. Bring tissue as there will be moments where you just want to stop because you feel too spent, but the ending is worth the experience of this story.
