Many thanks to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine, Bantam for the e-ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Imagine being invited to a secluded house on the Oregon Coast and when you and your family members arrive, you found a table set for an elegant dinner with place cards indicating where each family member should sit and the beautiful homecoming dress of your murdered daughter. Dad Paul, Sister Alice, family friend Uncle Geoff, Stepmom Rebecca, Mom Maureen and sister Samantha are all there. The absentee is Meghan who was murdered years ago by Cal. But then Cal arrives bloody and battered and oh by the way, he is fresh out of prison as your daughter, Meghan's, murderer. Do you let Cal live? Who would know if you did not? What really happened on that night many years ago when Meghan was killed and your family was ripped apart???
This is a great, atmospheric, locked room thriller! I thought I knew who did it but was surprised by the ending. The only part I did not like is upon the arrival of Geoff and Cal, the story drug a bit as the family tried to figure out what to do with Cal and the storm hampered their efforts. Otherwise, This is a twisty mystery that publishes August 1st!!

This one had a great premise and set-up but ended up falling flat for me. As the title suggests, the action happens one night as various family members gather to find out the truth of what happened ten years ago when Meghan died.
The whole family has received an invitation to a remote cabin in Oregon. They arrive to find stocked food and a table set for dinner with place cards for everyone. A big storm kicks in outside, ratcheting up the action.
Meghan’s sister saw her arguing with her boyfriend Cal and testifies against him. Now that Cal has served 10 years, he’s out and invited to the fateful night.
Family friend Geoff arrives, dragging Cal, who has been injured outside. As rumors and secrets swirled, I kept waiting for something more to happen. This part of the book dragged for me.
The writing in this one didn’t keep me engaged and I found the ending predictable. Others have really enjoyed this one, but it didn’t work for me.

This was a locked-room type mystery that kind of worked for me. It centers on the family of Meghan, who was murdered 10 years prior at the age of 17 at a bonfire party. Her boyfriend Cal was jailed for the murder but has recently been released when her family (mother, 2 sisters, father, stepmother, and family friend) receive invitations from an unknown person to meet at a beach house to find what really happened. They all assume that it’s Cal who brought them together, but secrets are revealed that make some of them question his actions as well as his intent. The story is told in alternating POVs from many characters intermingled with flashback chapters.
There is a definite creepiness in the setting as well as the storm that keeps them trapped in the house. Though there are a lot of characters and the POVs alternate, it’s not hard to keep everyone straight. That being said, I still never figured out the motivations for some of the decisions that the characters made and couldn’t help but think that a lot of the mystery would have been solved if people just talked to each other. I can’t say the ending was a huge surprise but I do think the author could have done a better job in giving the reader more background to help lay the breadcrumbs for the ending. That being said, the story was still fast paced and I was invested in learning what happened.
Overall, ok story but I don’t love when the motivations for people to do what they did are not made clear as the story continues, and when people just talking to each other would have solved a lot of the problems. It is a quick read, though, that never made me bored. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to Netgalley & the publisher for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review.
Excellent thriller with so many twists, turns & shady characters! Absolutely loved it and the ending was a shocker!

This was my first book from this author and she didn't disappoint! It keeps your attention throughout the whole book! I will definitely be reading more of her books!

A locked room type of mystery involving a family with lots of secrets. A family experiences a horrible tragedy 10 years ago when the eldest daughter, Meghan is killed. Now at a rented beach house, the family has been invited to gather by anonymous invitation. As the family gathers, each family member experiences the night with trepidation. Maureen, the mother, is full of tension and hating the person responsible. Sam, the youngest daughter, is on edge, blaming herself for asking everyone to attend. Alice, the middle daughter, has withdrawn from the family for several years and the family isn’t even sure she will be there. Paul, their father, divorced from Maureen shortly after the tragedy, is now remarried to Rebecca. Uncle Geoff, Paul’s best friend and not really a relative but a close family friend. Cal, the boy Meghan was dating, sent to prison for her death, now released from prison, is he behind the invitations? The invitation states all will be revealed but what exactly is going to be revealed.
What a terrific book, very on the edge of your seat, need to know what happens next type of book. I love how all the events unfolded in one night. You can feel the tension rise throughout the night, no one is sure what is going on, until it climaxes into explosive secrets being revealed. Well written, the characters were believable, I had no idea what was going to be revealed or by who. The story leads you down one path only to reveal another. Well done, enjoy this twisty locked room mystery!

This was a great page turning thriller! From the very beginning it wrapped you up into the spider web the family built around the death of their teenage daughter. Someone was keeping secrets and you won’t guess who.

Ten years ago, 17 year old Meghan was killed after attending a bonfire party, and her then boyfriend Cal was convicted of her murder and imprisoned. Present day, her family members each receive an anonymous invitation to a beachside house off the Oregon coast, telling them they’ll find out everything they need to know about Meghan’s death. The invitations coincide with Cal’s parole. One Night is a claustrophobic, suspenseful thriller that grapples with serious moral issues and the family’s quest for justice. The author expertly paints the scene, and as the raging storm batters the house, you can almost feel the thunder as the tension is ratcheted up with each chapter. This is a true edge of your seat nail biter that will have you furiously tearing through the pages as the story builds to a climax, all as the family and Meghan’s killer are trapped in the powerless house with the roads blocked. Loved this one, highly recommended. I received an ARC of this book from the publisher through NetGally in exchange for an honest review.

This was a quick and exciting read. I was still guessing who was responsible at the end. And even then the details surprised me. Now I want to read more Georgina Cross books.

I do love a locked room mystery and this one had it all. Another book where the characters are easy to like but that did not stop me from turning those pages. One Night is a fast paced and wild ride, full of family secrets, a raging storm both inside and outside the house. A great read for thriller lovers
The Chisholm Family have been summoned to a cliff top house on the Oregon coast by an anonymous person to find out what really happened 10 years ago. They thought they knew already, their 17 year old daughter Meaghan was murdered by her high school boyfriend, Cal. He has just been released from prison and they believe he sent the invite. A storm hits and they are cut off from electricity, phone lines and the road is blocked by a fallen tree. Who sent the invite and what did they want to tell the family?
It is an intense situation and the storm makes it even more so. Secrets will be revealed and lives will be changed.
Thanks to the publisher Random House and Negalley for my copy of this book to read. Published on August 1st.

Another fun thriller/mystery from Cross. Nothing overly new or mind bending, but still very enjoyable. The book was fast paced and had enough twists to keep me interested throughout.

Thank you to NetGalley, the Publishers, and Georgina Cross for an ARC of One Night! This was a slow burn, but I loved how it started out and captured you right in. Georgina left no time to get to the suspense of it. I did guess 75% of what happened from the beginning, but one part left me feeling. The characters talk in 3rd person, so even though the chapters say who’s talking, it does get a little confusing. I loved how the story wrapped up, but I wish there was an epilogue! I will for sure be trying more of Georgina’s books after this.

I loved Nanny Needed, so I was thrilled to read One Night. Unfortunately, I didn't connect with it the same way. The multiple timelines and perspectives were more distracting than engaging. I don't want to spoil the twists for anyone, so I'll keep it vague and say there were elements that disappointed me. Overall, not a fit for this reader, but I'll definitely check out whatever Georgina Cross writes next.

All Meghan's family wants is to learn who really murdered her. They receive anonymous letters to meet at a beach house connected to their past.
The synopsis of this book pulled me in, but it fell short. Way short. I figured out the twist at the beginning of the book. It just dragged on through the storm and there really wasn't much of a story.

Meghan was murdered 10 years ago by her boyfriend, Cal. It is now 10 years later and Cal has been released from prison. Meghan's parents, Maureen and Paul, and their other daughters', Sam and Alice, all receive anonymous letters telling them they know what really happened to Meghan that night and to meet at a cliff side house on the Oregon coast to find out. They all assume that this was set up by Cal but decide to go to the house anyway. Upon arrival, they notice various things are placed around the house that remind them of Meghan, including her red prom dress. When Cal is found to have been in a car accident, he is brought back to the house unconscious and some of them don't want him to wake up. When he does finally wake up, they all learn from a note that maybe it wasn't Cal that murdered Meghan after all, but someone else.
ONE NIGHT was an easy read that was filled with mystery and suspense. I enjoy books like this, when I can play detective and guess who did what. I had my suspicions early on. Part of them I guessed correctly, however, the author threw in a final twist at the end. Overall, I did like this book, but I'm left with a few open questions. If you enjoy locked room mysteries, this one is for you.

What a great book! 4.5⭐️ I absolutely love a good thriller that keeps you guessing on the edge of your seat and this one did not disappoint!
Meghan was murdered 10 years ago and her high school boyfriend Cal was sent to prison for the crime. He has since been released and now the entire family has been invited to a home on the Oregon coast by a mysterious person to “find out what really happened” and what they think they knew will be turned completely upside down! They find themselves not knowing who to trust and what to believe!
Fast paced, action packed and atmospheric, I devoured it in 2 sittings and was absolutely stunned by the end! So many twists and turns keep you guessing until the last sentence.

This was a great thriller that can be read in a sitting or two. It left me wanting more at the end of each chapter, even when I needed to go to bed. It moved at a good pace and had a good number of characters for a single setting mystery. If you like thrillers this is a great one for you!

A HUGE thank you to the publisher @penguinrandomhouse and @netgalley for providing me with this ARC for my honest review.
This was my first book by Georgina Cross and most definitely will not be my last. This book was fantastic! I loved the locked room mystery and suspense of it.
Ten years ago, Meghan was murdered and her boyfriend Cal was convicted. Cal is now out of prison, and Meghan's family has been invited to a cabin on the Oregon coast by an anonymous letter. Did Cal send the letters? But when Cal ends up unconscious fighting for his life from an accident heading up to the cabin, some of the members feel like it would be the best to just let him die. While others want him to survive so they can get some answers. There is a huge storm in progress, knocking down trees, blocking the driveway, and taking out power. No emergency vehicles can get to them, so it would be easy to let him just die. But is Cal actually the guilty one, or does he know something that may prove his innocence and tear this family apart?
Told in the POV of Sam (Meghan's youngest sister), Maureen (Meghan's mom), and Rebecca (Meghan's stepmom), this psychological thriller was riveting. I was completely glued to the pages and was shocked by the ending! What's a thriller without a great twist? This one definitely had one! I would highly recommend adding this to your TBR on August 1st.

Oh my! Oh my! Oh my! This was definitely a thriller for 2023! Finished in one sitting, couldn’t put it down, Absolutely amazing book!

I liked the short chapters and the alternating POV chapters but it wasn’t too difficult to guess what happened 10 years ago and who was responsible. A lot of things could have been cleared up if people just communicated.
