In Pursuit of the Past is a well written romantic suspense. The plot is an edge of your seat page turner. I definitely recommend this book. I received an Arc from the publisher and Netgalley. This is my unbiased review.

Thank you to Netgalley, Hot Tree Publishing and Carolyn LaRoche for this ARC!

I enjoyed reading this book but for me it was lacking something, I can’t quite put my finger on it but it did not engage me as much as I thought it would after reading the synopsis. It’s very fast-paced, sometimes loosing important details that would add substance to the storyline. I would have appreciated a more in-dept character development. Some details seamed off, like the need to call 911 while having police officers near by. But these were minor details, I did enjoy the read.

Thank you netgalley and Xpresso Book Tours for allowing me to read this book. I was intrigued by this book but it unfortunately did not live up to my expectations. I wanted more tension and chemistry between Ava and Hudson but I did enjoy the action and mystery. It ended happy I just wished everything wasn’t so rushed and had more depth.

Thank you to netgalley, Carolyn LaRoche and the publishers to the arc of this book.

If I'm being honest this book was not my favorite. the plot really enticed me and I feel it had the opportunity to be so great however it definitely fell short. As I was reading I felt the book was too fast paced to the point where major details were left unexplained and it feels unfinished and rushed. I wish the book was longer so some of the interesting points could further be explored.

Ava Taft has mourned the loss of her best friend Quinn for the past ten years. She still doesn’t believe Quinn is dead, but if not, where is she? Quinn’s brother, Detective Hudson Pierce, believes that Quinn drowned and can’t understand why Ava can’t let her go. When a baby and a note are left in the church, the note is signed as her friend used to sign their messages. If this is Quinn’s baby, then where is Quinn? The plot is fairly predictable with no real surprises, but a few things seemed out of place as when Ava decides to “go it alone” and finds herself in dangerous situations instead of allowing the police to handle things. A pleasant romantic suspense as she and Hudson race to save his sister and accept their feelings, for each other, that they have long denied. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (paytonpuppy)

A quick read, short on chapters, but I needed to know what happened. An event ten years ago left both Hudson and Ava hurting. Now someone believes Ava knows something and is after her. There is plenty of drama and action, but like most stories of this length, not enough backstory or development.

Thank you to NetGalley and Hot Tree Publishing for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

Sweet love story but too much talk of faith and religion for me. If that's your thing then this book is definitely for you but for me it distracted from the story in a big way. It seems like every time Ava and Hudson turned around there was a discussion on not giving up faith.

This a super sugary sweet story with a few tense moments. Not bad if you're looking for a quick read

I received an arc from NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

This book was a little unexpected for me. Hudson and Ava had a tragedy occur when they were young and Hudson thought he lost his sister. He was upset with himself for being distracted when his sister went missing and he pushed his new love Ava away.

Years later both Ava and Hunter can no longer stand the sight of each other but a small infant brings them together and maybe just maybe they can work beyond the hurt and form a new relationship.

Loved the ending but was a struggle at times to get through the beginning with repeated themes about Quinn being dead or missing.

It's hard for me to find many good things to say about this book. The plot could have been good, and I liked the premise. But there were just so many things that were wrong with it. Plot holes galore, characters that ended up being too stupid, to live, and details that were just frankly wrong. This book really needed to go through some more re-writes and some editing before it was ready for arc reviews. Things like Ava is suddenly a gymnast, but female gymnasts don't use a pommel horse. It's a vault horse. You don't mix formula by dumping powder in an empty bottle; you have to measure the water first and then measure the powder separately before you mix. Why is Ava calling 911 when Hudson is a police officer and has other police officers on the scene? Why don't they just use their police radios? Why is Ava suddenly thinking she's a BA? Why is this pacing at breakneck speed? There's no room for the narrative to breathe at this pace Why on earth does this end occur? There are no details leading up to it and it just appears like magic.

Overall this book was a mess.

I’m sorry, but I’ll have to give it two stars.
The story is not bad, the idea was good and could have potential, but there are too many plot holes, everything moves too fast, with too little details.
The events being so close one to another are ok, they make sense with the story, but everything is too superficial, the characters need more depth, more backstory.
In the end I can’t say I didn’t like it, but I could have enjoyed it more.

A good clean action packed read with a unique plot that unfolds with plenty of drama and surprises as Ava and Hudson learn to love and trust again. I received a ARC copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review .
