I'm still working my way through this, but I love the entire concept and how each puzzle gets progressively more difficult. What fun brainteasers!

Murdle is the first volume in a series of thematic mystery puzzle books by G.T. Karber. Released 13th June 2023 by Macmillan on their St. Martin's Griffin imprint, it's 384 pages and is available in paperback format.

The author does a good job of introducing a sample puzzle and how to use a solving grid with the given clues to solve the puzzles. The writing is humorous (but not overly so), and understandable. The puzzles themselves are arranged in chapters by difficulty. All solutions are included in the back of the book.

They're creatively arranged and engaging. Graphically, the layout is easy to understand and appealing, with small margin art scattered throughout (magnifying glass, profiles for the characters, locations, etc).

Four stars. For home use and gifting. Due to the one-use nature and marking of the book, it's probably not a good choice for public or school library use.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

I had this as a kindle book but believe I would have enjoyed it more if I had a physical book. They puzzles that I was able to do were fun and made me think. I will be purchasing this as a physical copy.

I absolutely loved this! I actually have bought physical copies and I also gave copies of this to all of my friends for Christmas! I plan to buy a few more to put in my present closet so I can give them to other people when I need gift ideas!

A fun collection of mysteries that all ages can enjoy. Could easily be used as brain twisters during a road trip, etc!

It’s hard to star or review this as a typical book because it’s not what I was expecting. BUT as a fan of murder mysteries and puzzles, I absolutely LOVE this.

Murdle comes as a collection of short puzzles similar to Clue in which you have to solve the murderer, the weapon, and the scene of the crime with the clues given.

I’ve already recommended it to several friends and may buy the book for a few gifts. If you like solving mysteries and puzzles, this is an absolute must!

I love puzzles and mysteries so this combo was perfect for me. It is hard to work the puzzle through digital (I had to use a notebook and draw the graphs like the book had) but I loved the progression of how hard the puzzles were. I’ve already purchased the print version of book 2.

I enjoy puzzles of many different varieties. I had not heard of 'Murdle' before this but essentially this is a combination of the game of Clue and a Sherlock Holmes micro story. With suspects, possible murder weapons, potential locations, and/or motives plus some very brief hints, readers are meant to combine the logic of what's know with deductive reasoning to identify the killer (or killers?) in 100 different mystery word puzzles.

I will admit right off the bat that I did not do all 100. I didn't even do half of these, but I did so some random sampling through all the categories (Elementary, Occult Medium, Hard Boiled, and Impossible). I did not get any correct in the Impossible category (of course not ... they were impossible!) and only one correct in the Hard Boiled (of five).

The Elementary puzzles were, as expected, pretty easy and the Hard Boiled only a little bit more difficult.

Each mini mystery comes with a grid printed in the book to help the reader-detective keep track of the clues and deductions.

It is very important to note that this is NOT a logic puzzles in the strictest sense of the word. You will not be able to declare a solution based solely on known facts. You will have to use deduction and reasoning and just a bit of general insight to the human psyche. Sometimes you have to make some pretty big leaps of supposition.

While the answers I read all made sense, getting to these is not straightforward. I suspect that author G. T. Karber could legitimately make many of these suspects into the killer of their story - meaning a wrong answer could be right - just not the answer that Karber chose.

My ARC was a digital copy and I downloaded and printed out the puzzles that I tested (which is one of the reasons I didn't complete the whole book).

There is a section of the book for additional hints for each mystery and I did make liberal use of this section.

This is a great way to keep the mind active and a nice addition to the slate of crosswords, Sudoku's, and word search puzzle books on the market.

Looking for a good book? Murdle, Vol 1 by G. T. Karber is puzzle book for fans of Clue and Sherlock Holmes mysteries. With varying degrees of difficulties, there should be something here for everyone.

I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher, through Netgalley, in exchange for an honest review.

There's nothing like a good mind puzzle to kick off your morning! While I started with the digital version, I also pre-ordered the physical because I wanted the heat induced, color changing mug.

I’m very late with my review, but here it goes anyway! First, thanks to Netgalley and St. Martin’s Press for the opportunity to access an early copy.

I’ve always loved logic puzzles and the board game Clue since I was a little kid, so to pair them with my love of mysteries and reading, Murdle immediately drew my interest. My experience was limited, as I was reading it on my e-reader, so I only solved a few puzzles before deciding to pick up a physical copy.

I would discourage readers from getting the e-book version of Murdle and get a physical copy instead. Can’t wait to dive in to Vol. 2!

I love Murdle. This keeps me occupied instead of scrolling through social media. I love that there is different puzzles and the stories are interesting.

Thank you to St. Martins Press and Netgalley for the ARC. All the above opinions are my own in exchange for a free copy.

I received a free copy of Murdle: Vol 1 from Netgalley and St. Martin’s Press in exchange for an honest review.
Puzzles have always held a special place in my heart, especially when they are logic-based. I hadn’t heard of Murdle puzzles before reviewing this book, but I wish I had. These puzzles hit the perfect mark between logic puzzle and silly, entertaining characters. Lovers of the movie and board game Clue will enjoy the disjointed continuity as they work through the puzzles.
I attempted quite a few puzzles from each of the difficulty sections and found that they were extremely well scaled. The easy ones were quite simple, and so on until the future section felt insane. But each section taught you the skills you would need to move forward and improve your skills. I think Murdle: Volume 1 is a great way to work your brain and build new logic and problem-solving skills.
I’ll be purchasing a hard copy for myself so I can work my way through more of the puzzles, and I look forward to future volumes as well!

Thank you St. Martin's Griffin and Netgalley for providing an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

I still play Murdle nearly every day so I was excited to obtain an ARC of a volume compilation of these logic puzzles. While I enjoy playing Murdle, I want to clarify that part of my rating is that this volume is primarily limited to physical copy. Through my E-ARC, trying to play those puzzles in the book meant that I needed a paper to draw out the logic puzzle squares to narrow down the criminal from the innocent. However, the volume shows there is a cube logic puzzle setup directly on the page of that murder. Therefore, for those interested in buying this Murdle puzzle, I highly suggest purchasing the physical copy instead of a digital format.

Other than that, I had no complaints. There were various criminals and different stories and they didn't create a story so you can choose which story you want to do or start from the beginning and do the puzzles in a linear manner.

As someone who loves mysteries this riddle book was perfect for my crime loving self. I was able to do this on my f.ignition to Hawaii and made the time go by so fast!

A new twist on the daily puzzle, Murdle is a mix between a murder mystery and a classic logic puzzle. The installments in this book are based off the popular web puzzles by G.T. Karber. and get increasingly difficult the deeper you get (though none will truly break your brain). Nothing too graphic or bloody, these puzzles are intended to cater to those of us who want a little crime with our crosswords or slaying with our sudoku, but in a cozy package.

Like any type of puzzle, it conforms to a pattern, which, if you work through the book in one go might get a little repetitive. However, don't do as I did. Dabble. One or two a day is a fun addition to the other puzzles out there.

Trying to read the puzzles on my phone was too difficult. I think these would be fun to do with the actual book. Unfortunately, the pictures were grayed out and the formatting was weird. I’d definitely try the physical version though.

This book did not download well on my Kindle and was difficult to read as a result. It does look like a great puzzle book, I do plan to purchase a hard copy.

This did not download well onto the kindle so it was hard to use. I think this book has a great concept but will have to get via paperback.

The book isn't made for a Kindle but the paperback version is so much fun and I love to do the puzzles in my free time or right before bed to wind down with.
