Heartbreaking look at what you do for the person you love.

Tenleigh knows exactly who Kyland is. You have to when you both grow up on the hill, otherwise known as the poor side of town. But it's not until she puts herself on the line for him do they begin a friendship that blossoms into a love to last a lifetime.

This book had so many things to like. First, Tenleigh and Kyland's relationship is so beautiful. They both put forward a strong front but they found a way to open up to each other. That is what made this book for me: the way they found solace in each other. It wasn't just romantic love.
There were a few times that the angst was super strong in this, but I did figure out what was going on pretty early. Even with that, it still had me hooked to see how these two came together again and again.

On a separate note, this book did something (I don't want to give it away!!!) that other books don't do that made me happy. I have a huge pet peeve dealing with something happening (or not happening) when the FMC and the MMC are separated for a long period of time. This book didn't have it done and that made me sooooooo happy!

Thank you @read_bloom for a copy of Kyland. This first love story between Kyland and Tenleigh is tender and so heartbreaking. They both live in poor remote town in Kentucky and both have been raised in such an adverse life. The story is about surviving despite the life given and how driven they are to get out of town. The story is told mainly in their teenage years and then jumps to 4 years later. I would have liked more development of their relationship as adults in the story and less of their teenage love. Overall, a sad tone romance and I enjoyed seeing how the brought joy to each other's life.

Thanks to Sourcebooks Bloom Books and Netgalley for providing me with an e-arc for an honest review.

This book was a fast read, even with some of the heavier topics in it. There was poverty, dealing with mental illness, and sacrifice. I did find that the second part of the book seemed to be rushed a lot, and it could've been drawn out a little more.

This is a very touching and emotional look. I thought the setting of the Appalachian area was very different and suited both characters very well. It was interesting to see how they both had such hopes and dreams to get out of their hometown, but when they fell in love, they are priorities changed. The sacrifices made were touching and understandable as well. All in . The sacrifices made we’re touching and understandable as well. All in all, if you are looking for a very touchy and emotional story with fantastic characters and an interesting location, this is the book for you.

This book is so emotional, and made me cry more than once. It was such a heartbreakingly powerful book with such incredible characters. It's a touching story that I just couldn't put this one down. Small town romance, second chances, super emotional. So, so good.

Thank you to NetGalley & Sourcebooks Bloom Books for this ARC.

Mia Sheridan is an incredibly beautiful writer. I read Archer's Voice years ago and was blown away with the prose and way Mia writes. Tenleigh Falyn and Kyland Barrett were no exception. I loved their relationship and the way they navigated it. Both were equally strong characters alone, but together they were such a force of nature. I love being put through the ringer with these characters. It makes me love and appreciate them so much more.

Mia is a go to author for me, and I'm glad I loved this book as much as her others. I can't wait to see what she does next.

17 year olds, Tenleigh Falyn and Kyland Barrett live in the small, poverty stricken town of Dennville, Kentucky. They are both fighting to win the one Tyton Coal Scholarship to get a free ride out of town and to make something of themself. Tenleigh and Kyland find themselves becoming friends and helping one another. They end up getting too close and realize that one of them will be leaving and never looking back. What will happen to the one left behind?

I cried more in this book than I did in Archer’s Voice. Mia Sheridan sure can write an epic love story.

If you come from a background of poverty, frugality, having nothing, growing up starving, then this book will resonate so deep with you. I didn’t know whether to put a trigger warning for it or not just because it makes up such a big part of the story and can really cause strong emotions.

If you grew up “raising” your parents or grew up with parents with mental illness, this book will resonate hard as well. Mia Sheridan touched so many topics that I feel, aren’t seen so much in romance books. It just shows the harsher reality for a lot of individuals.

I loved every bit of this story. It sucked me in from the start. There was never a lull. The story was just so touching and really makes you thankful for what you have. If you enjoy small town romance and second chance romance, this book is for you. I highly highly recommend everyone read this book!

I’d like to thank NetGalley and SOURCEBOOKS Bloom Books for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Oh my word. Mia Sheridan sure knows how to have her way with my heart.

This book, gah, the emotional punches! I wouldn’t classify it as a tearjerker necessarily, and yet I cried so much. My heart ached for Kyland and Tenleigh. I felt their push-pull in the very beginning (and honestly, that’s when the tears started falling) and then they got messy – really messy – but in the most beautiful way. This was such a lovely romance, but y’all - the love story. The love story is where the magic lived.

The love between Kyland and Tenleigh was unbelievably powerful (and that sort of desperate love that I literally will never get enough of). But it’s also the love story between these wonderful characters and their little Kentucky mountain town. It’s a love story between neighbors, and friends, and family. It’s about the bottomless capacity we have to give when our love is pure. It was stunning. And man alive, I loved every minute I spent between these pages.

Kyland was this perfect balance of raw emotion, tough emotional punches, and sweet, pure, unadulterated love (with some banter, and sizzling heatt mixed in). It was simply a beautiful romance and a love story for the ages. I loved it and cannot recommend it highly enough.

I freaking adored this book. The way I CRIED!? It has been a while since l've read a book that made me ugly cry and this book just broke that. I enjoyed every second of it!! The happy parts, the spicy parts, and the emotional heart breaking parts. Kyland and Tenleigh own my heart. Mia just knows how to break my heart into tiny tiny pieces but then know exactly what I need to put it right back together!! 🥹 This was worth the suffer and I still cry when I think about it. There isn't one part I disliked about this book. Mia has never missed so far!! I definitely recommend!!
Favorite quotes:
"A pride in knowing the pain made you stronger. The pain made you fight to succeed. Someday, when I'm living my dreams, I'm going to think of all the things that broke my heart and I'm going to be thankful for them." 😭
"All my life I was just a nothing, a nobody. And it hurt so badly." 💔
"She's not just some woman, sir.
She's more than that. To me, she's everything."🫠🥹

A great book Kyland by Mia Sheridan. I went into reading this story without knowing much about what it was about. Having read one other book years ago by author I wanted to try her books again and boy was I glad. The book was what I consider New Adult it grabbed me right from the beginning and Kept me intrigued right to the end. It had everything I wanted and more. I'll be for sure reading more books by Mia Sheridan.

NetGalley Review — my rating ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
.
Kyland by Mia Sheridan absolutely took me on a wildly emotional ride. I am truly in awe of how she spins her love stories to make you truly believe in more.
.
This is a story of two poor teens from a destitute town in Kentucky with a scholarship on the line that only one can get. It’s the only way out & what will separate them.
.
This one GUTTED me. I couldn’t stop reading & now I’m a little worried for whatever book follows this one.
.
Big thanks to @read_bloom for this ARC! @miasheridanauthor can do no wrong!

Kyland is a heartfelt tale of first loves, hope & sacrifice.

The Gist:
Tenleigh and Kyland live in a poverty stricken Appalachian coal mining town. To escape the generational cycle, they are each in the running for the town scholarship for a full ride to the school of their choice. Each desperately needs the opportunity. The last thing they need right now is to fall in love before leaving town.

And then, three little words wreck everything.

Things I loved:
Every bit of it.
The characters.
The detailed descriptions of the town.
The high school love story, but absolutely not a young adult book.

My Reflection:
I’m still speechless. This was such a roller coaster of emotions, but in the very best way. Love. Hope. Sacrifice. Poverty.

Read if you like:
-friends to lovers
-small towns
-overcoming obstacles
-soul mates

This book was absolutely beautiful! The first 25% felt a little slowish to me with not much happening but then when we got into the love between Tenleigh and Kyland I couldn't stop reading. Kyland is the example of what every man should be and vou can't help but love his character and how he goes to the extreme for those he loves. I couldn't help but be in awe of him! Make sure if you read this you have some tissues, because there's times where you want to cry because of how both main characters grew up and the struggles they dealt with to get to where they are! Mia Sheridan did a beautiful job!

I devoured this book from beginning to end and I absolutely loved this small-town story. It's filled with characters you will both love and enjoy. This is a story full of people who have dealt with and are still dealing with the loss of loved ones, pain and are struggling on a daily basis. I loved the main character Tenleigh, but I loved Kyland even more. I couldn't get enough of them, and I was not ready for the story to end. I love the way the author threw that little twist/surprise in there regarding Kyland. I knew why he hurt Tenleigh, but I hadn't figured out everything else regarding what he'd done for her. As much as he didn't want to love her, he did, and he showed it all the ways that mattered whether she knew it or not. I also enjoyed Ten's sister Marlo and I was completely happy when she decided to open her heart to Sam. I love that when it came to Marlo and Ten, they held nothing back and said exactly what they thought about things going on in each other's lives. Their love and support for each other and their mom was unconditional. This romance story was funny, steamy, heartfelt and sweet. It left me with a smiled on my face and I loved the ending even more. I'm definitely looking forward to reading more books from this author and I'll be recommending this one to all of my romance loving friends, family and co-workers. It's one you won't want to miss out on.

Mia Sheridan always knows how to take a girl through an emotional rollercoaster! Kyland is a moving story of two people who never seem to have the luck they need to achieve bigger and better things until they meet.

This story was so powerful and tragic all at the same time. I could feel the love the characters had for each other in throughout each page. How desperate they are to make each other happy. This is not my first rodeo with Mia Sheridans book and she truly knows how to convey the heartbreak that sometimes accompanies love.

Although this isn't my favourite of Mia Sheridans books, this story was soul-stirring nonetheless. If you need a good cry, I really do recommend this book as I was left blubbering like a whale.

This was a cute love story, but I found it either needed more.substance, or needed to be shorter. I do think there are readers.who would devour this book, but it wasn't for me.

The sacrifices for love.
Kyland and Tenleigh live on hill in poverty conditions. There is anguish and heart break but all in the name of love. The hope for better, for more as both seek to leave Dennville, Kentucky. It all comes to down to family and community caring for others.

This is a rough review for me. While I really enjoyed the characters and plot - the setting felt very off to me. The descriptions felt very disingenuous, heavy handed and full of misinformation making it hard for me to get lost in the storytelling.

Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Bloom Books for the arc in exchange for my honest review.

Sheridan is always trying to rip my heart out. While I could have went with less of the past chapters and more of the present/future, this was still a heart warming story. I grew up dirt poor, and while I didn’t experience it the same way these characters did I still felt it. And most of all, I felt what it was like to fight to build a better life for yourself and your family. Not the perfect life, but one that’s uniquely yours. This story felt a lot different to me than other books I’ve read by Sheridan, but namely that it didn’t feel as spicy 😅 which I’m sure is partly due to the characters younger age

But still, Kyland was just 🥹🤍
