This was sweet emotional story about first love in a struggling Appalachian mining town. Tenleigh and Kyland are both working to get out of their small town competing for a college scholarship. They are each others main competition and swear nothing will get in either of their ways. Of course love always has other plans but what will happen when one of them gets to leave and the other has to stay? Mia Sheridan has again written a lovely story of first love finding your place and how to survive and thrive growing up in unfavorable conditions. I really enjoyed this story and read it one day I love her writing and could connect with both of these characters so easily. I will definitely being recommending this one 4/5 stars. I want to thank NetGalley and Bloom Books for the arc in exchange for an honest review.

A wonderful story of struggles, family loyalty, friendship and love without bounds. This books took my breath away. I loved the deep emotional sharing of past struggles, current situations, and the need to protect each other. The two main characters show a true connection we all hope to find. The sacrifice for the one you love knows no bounds in this compelling novel. Well done!

This book was such a sweet love story! The selflessness in the main characters was truly amazing to read. I liked how the time jumps were done well and made sense with the story. We saw the parts we need to as readers. I always enjoy Mia Sheridan, but this one is one of my favorites.

i’ve read quite a few books by mia sheridan, one of my all time favorite books being archers voice! she is one of my favorite authors! she has a way of making a book so emotionally moving and this book is no exception.

this book follows kyland and tenleigh (very unique names btw). they both are from a poor town in kentucky and all they want to do is get out. tenleigh and her sister are in charge of taking care of their mom who can’t take care of herself.

kyland and tenleigh meet and form an unlikely friendship, knowing the other needed one. they both are going for the same scholarship to get out of their town and go to college. so what happens to the person left behind?

y’all this book wrecked me and put me back together so many times! baby kyland wow wow wow. your heart is so pure. the love these two have for each other is unmatched.

the emotions i went through in this book: 😢😁🤸‍♀️🥹😡🤬☹️🤯🤫🥲🥰

my jaw hit the floor at times, had tears and my eyes and smiling at the book. i loved this and ate it up! highly highly recommend.

This is a story of two teens living in poverty, both of which are trying to break free from. This story is about breaking free of stereotypes and generational curses.

Much like the rest of her stories, this book was very well written and had a great flow. The characters were relatable and easy to pull for.

While this wasn't by favorite read by her, it was still a solid romance.

Kyland by Mia Sheridan is a beautifully written, emotional story about two teenagers, Tenleigh Falyn and Kyland Barrett, who are fighting to win the yearly Tyton Coal scholarship. Set in a small, poverty-stricken mining town, the story follows their journey as they struggle to survive and escape the harshness of their lives.

The characters are well-developed and complex, with both Tenleigh and Kyland facing their own challenges and demons. The author does an excellent job of portraying the realities of poverty and the struggles that come with it, while also weaving in a touching love story that is both heartwarming and heart-wrenching.

The chemistry between Tenleigh and Kyland is palpable, and the slow-burn romance is expertly crafted. As they grow closer, it becomes clear that they are each other's only hope for a better life. But with only one scholarship available, the competition between them is intense, and the consequences of losing are devastating.

Sheridan's writing is poetic and evocative, bringing the town and its inhabitants to life with vivid detail. The story is both gritty and tender, exploring themes of love, loss, sacrifice, and the unbreakable bonds of family. The ending is both heartrending and hopeful, leaving readers with a sense of satisfaction and closure.

Overall, Kyland is a poignant and powerful novel that will leave readers with a lasting impression. It is a must-read for fans of emotional romance and coming-of-age stories.

A story of poverty, loss, and so much love. Kyland and Tenleigh brought hope to a community that has lost so much, and gave their all to each other in the most beautiful and heart wrenching way. The feels that this book gave me won't soon be forgotten. Absolute perfection.

KYLAND by Mia Sheridan – 6 Stars. LOVE THE NEW COVER

Tenleigh Falyn struggles each day to survive in a small, poverty-stricken, coal mining town where she lives with her sister and mentally ill mother. Her dream of winning the college scholarship given to one student by the local coal company and escaping the harshness of her life, keeps her going.

Kyland Barrett lives in the hills, too, and has worked tirelessly--through near starvation, through deep loneliness, against all odds--to win the Tyton Coal Scholarship and leave the town that is full of so much pain.

They're both determined not to form any attachments, but one moment changes everything. What happens when only one person gets to win? When only one person gets to leave? And what happens to the one left behind?

Kyland is a story of desperation and hope, loss and sacrifice, pain and forgiveness, but ultimately, a story of deep and unending love.

*** WHOA! WHOA! WHOA! I ABOSUTELY LOVE KYLAND.

So the above summary described exactly what this book is about so I am not going to do my own summary. What I will say is this book is AMAZING - you simply HAVE TO READ KYLAND!!!

Mia Sheridan is such a phenomenal writer. She has a way of captivate and pull you into the story – you will not be able to let go until you finish.

Just like Archer’s Voice, Kyland is so unique and unforgettable.

It is a love story but it felt more than that to me. This beautiful story is about sacrifice, survival, triumph, and hope. It’s heart-warming, beautiful, moving – their love story is inspiring and gives you hope for true love. I felt emotional and totally wrenched after I finished the book.

The writing is simply stunning.

What else can I say…PERFECTION!

Please get a copy and read it. Kyland is truly beautiful and the story will stay in your heart forever!

You are the best Mia. Cannot wait for more to come !!!

I think this book fully cemented that I am no longer into New Adult. For fans of Beautiful Disaster this is a solid recommendation.

This is my second book from Mia Sheridan and it definitely won't be my last. I know this is a republish of a book that came out in 2015 but I am so glad that it is getting republished because it deserves all the hype in the world. I really enjoyed the setting in this book and I feel like we don't get a lot of romance like that. Mia Sheridan can write a grumpy guarded man like no other and I enjoy her character development so much. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys romance books.

5 stars.

So much angst, a bit depressing for my taste but I couldn’t put it down once I was into it. I love how much this book hurt me in a good way. The living situations, the relationships, and all those selfless acts they did really blew my mind and how deeply some words resonate with me. I didn’t realize books could be so good, there are no words to describe how much I love this book. This book has been one hell of an emotional rollercoaster ride and I would gladly jump back in!

A small town, high school romance that quickly ends. Kyland is a story about hope, sacrifice, heartbreak. Tenleigh and Kyland are high school seniors hoping for the college scholarship that will be their ticket out of the poverty-stricken small coal mining town that has been home for their entire lives. Only one person can win and it really is a chance of lifetime for these kids. Both kids have been through some traumatic experiences growing up. They really want a chance to grow and explore and become something other than what the life they have grown up with. They both fall madly in love with one another but things happen and it changes the course of both their ‘planned paths’. I think Kyland will be on top of several book boyfriend lists. His character is really interesting and grows on you as the story unfolds.it is really hard to think about forgiving him but hear his side of the story and see if you change your mind. The new cover of this book is stunning and fits the story perfectly. Many thanks to SOURCEBOOKS Bloom Books and NetGalley for the digital review copy of this novel. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.

This story was absolutely heartbreaking in the best kind of way. What an incredible story about two teenagers that grow up in extreme poverty in the Appalachian mountains. Beautiful, heartfelt and poignant. Kyland tells a story of love and heartbreak, of community and acceptance. One of the best books I've read this year.
