The neighbor two doors down - H. K. Christie

Thank you Netgalley and Keekstar Media for providing me with an eARC of this exciting psychological thriller.

In this novel the main character, Allison Smythe, works to come to terms with the 20 year-old abduction of her little sister, and the fact that she and her mother never learned her sister's fate after the kidnapping.

Not only do Allison and her mom work to rebuild their lives after this abduction, Allison also struggles with PTSD and guilt regarding the kidnapping of her baby sister (as she was there when the abduction occured).

I LOVED this novel, as it contains a bit of everything: mystery, intrigue, familial bonds, friendships (platonic as well as a romantic interest), even designer cupcakes!

I have read hundreds if not thousands of psychological thrillers (I read 10-12 books a week, all except for one to two books per week are psychological thrillers), however this is the first I have read ond that filled me with a feeling of lightness and positivity.

I am so excited to find a new author, I will track down more of her books soon!

Until next time, remember, ALWAYS keep hope alive, as it is never a wasted effort. Even when a situation isn't resolved the way you would have preferred, that doesn't negate the fact that hope gave you a desperately needed "life preserver" to cling onto during the time you needed a reason to carry on...

It did start out a little slow but picked up. About 30% of the way into it I thought I had figured the plot out, I ended up figuring most of it out when I read the ending but not every little detail. I could definitely see a sequel being written and I would definitely read it to see if the story continues.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this ARC. This thriller had me trying to figure out if the character was really crazy, or was she onto something? Her sister went missing 20 years ago, but was never found. Then she sees what she thinks is the man that kidnapped her sister, and goes after finding out what happened. I loved this book and will be searching for more books by this author.

This amazing book kept me on the edge of my seat and sleep deprived.
I had to know what was going to happen. It was somewhat predictable but who cares, it’s a great book and well written.

Allison, 37, moves from the Bay Area of California to Seattle Washington.
She buys a house and has a brand new job at a big Tech company.
A new chapter for her life.

20 years prior her sister Ella was kidnapped and Allison is suffering from PTSD.
She meets Liam, the Nephew of her neighbor two doors down.

Oh my Liam is lovely, too good to be true? They work together and start dating.

This book is filled with emotion to touch you like you can only imagine to be in her shoes.
I loved every minute of it and did not want it to end.

I want to thank Netgalley, H.K. Christie and Keelstar Media for allowing me to read an ARC of “The neighbor two doors down.”

This was a thrilling ride and like really nerve wracking. I read this in less than 2 hours I had to know what happened.

Ella and Allison are best friends growing up always together until one day they drive to the store to get some ice cream. Ella ends up getting kidnapped right out of Allison’s car and no one has any leads on the case for over 20 years.
You will have to read to figure out what happens next because I will not spoil it for you. I have all of the other books from this author on my to be read list!

Hmm, I'm not really sure how I feel about this book. I enjoyed the writing and the story but I guessed the plot the moment Allison recognised Edison. I also found the ending wrapped up super fast. I enjoyed the characters and feel sad that Allison and Liam didn't end up together.

I did really feel sorry for Allison for watching her sister be kidnapped, harbouring that guilt for twenty years, for attacking the stranger, fit ending up in a mental institute and mostly for the way her therapist treated her.

If you want an easy to read book then this is a good pick. Sadly it just wasn't quite a great read for me.

Now this is the kind of thriller I like to read! It was a quick read with a lot of well timed twists.
Allison Smythe has recently moved to a new city in an attempt to start over after nearly killing an innocent man 5 year ago for her sister's kidnapping, which is an unsolved case. As the 20 year anniversary of the kidnapping approaches, Allison finds herself questioning her own sanity while determined to find her missing sister and ensure the man responsible gets what he deserves. She finds herself seeing "the monster" quite often and is unsure if he is really there or just a traumatic response from witnessing the kidnapping so many years ago.
What a roller coaster ride! At times I was also questioning Allison's sanity while trying to figure out the truth for myself. This had me questioning most of the characters at one point or another.
The characters were great and the story flowed nicely. It was definitely a page turner that had me wanting more!
I plan on checking out more from this author!
Thank you to H.K. Christie, Xpresso Book Tours and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for my honest review and opinion.

The Neighbor Two Doors Down is an unputdownable thriller that will have you up late a night. A true page turner! Allison has spent the last twenty years trying to move forward from the tragic abduction of her fourteen year old sister, Ella. With a new job in a new state, Allison is ready for a fresh start. Then, one day, she sees him; the monster who abducted her sister. Is stress causing Allison losing her grip on reality or is danger closer than Allison ever could have imagined? (This ARC copy was provided from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.)

The Neighbor Next Door is a suspenseful thriller. Allison has recently moved to Seattle and is recovering from a recent incident of attacking a man she believed to be her younger sister's abductor. Only she wrong about him being responsible. Allison is still under a doctor's care, but they are talking long distance. With a new job and new home, she is hoping to be able to start over.

Allison is doing well at her new job and meets Liam who invites her to a bakery shop near their work. Liam introduces Cora the owner of the shop and her little girl Ruby. Allison has an unsettling reaction to Ruby that surprises everyone.

Allison's life will take a terrifying turn as she believes she has found the "monster" who had taken her sister almost twenty years ago. As Allison escalates, she reaches out to a friend from college that can help her find the information she is looking for. Allison made a mistake that she paid for when she was sure it was the "Monster" but now she has second thoughts if they are part of her PTSD hallucinations.

This story was riveting from beginning to end and I couldn't put it down. I really enjoyed the writing as well as the characters. It was easy to feel for Allison after her sister disappeared. I am not sure how anyone moves on from this always looking and wondering. The ending was a twist I didn't see coming.

The book had me from the get-go though I did struggle here and there with some paragraphs that seemed to be a bit repetitive.

It was my first by this author but it will definitely not be my last!

I’m sorry to say I didn’t love this one. The writing felt juvenile in some places and somewhat stilted in others. I was able to see most of the plot lines coming from a mile away. I found the premise of a missing sister really interesting and that’s why I kept reading, for a resolution to that particular situation.

The Neighbor Two Doors Down
by H.K. Christie
Whoa ho ho. My lord, this is a real roller coaster ride! I was turning the pages, smoking was blowing out the kindle. I LOVED this one. Sure, some nay-sayers will say, " a bit over the top, the ending". I say it was a wonderful ending for me. God, those two Edison, and Nora were way past evil. So, I read and loved this novel.

A thrilling book that keeps you turning the pages until the shocking ending. Full of twists and turns and shocks. Brilliant!’ I rate this book four out of five stars.

Allison’s life for the past twenty years has been constructed around the hole of pain, grief, loss, and guilt with which she has struggled since the day her sister, Ella, was abducted right before her eyes. The face of the monster who took her sister was forever seared into her brain. She created a perfect persona to hide her emptiness until her reaction to a flashback almost has a fatal end, crumpling her carefully crafted outer shell.

Allison, within her attempts to get her life back together takes a new job and relocates. Soon she starts to suspect the monster has followed her to this new neighborhood.

This was a quick, entertaining, and engaging read. I loved the storyline and the emphasis on holding on to hope. I did feel the ending was pretty predictable, and there were storylines and characters that left me wanting more, and decisions made, such as those by the police department, that left me scratching my head.

Overall, the storytelling kept me turning page after page and it was an enjoyable read, I look forward to reading more from this author!

Thank you to NetGalley, Keekstar Media, and H.K. Christie for this arc copy!

Wow! The Neighbor Two Doors Down is a highly addicting phycological thriller that was incredibly crafted and next to impossible to put down. From the very first page, the author H.K. Christie, had me drawn completely in and I knew I was hooked.

Allison is a thirty-seven year old woman who recently moved to Seattle and is battling her inner demons regarding her sister that was abducted almost twenty years ago. She made the move after making a devastating mistake in her hometown in California, and was hopeful for a new start. Little does Allison know, that upon moving to Seattle, her life is about to take an unexpected turn of events that leaves everyone, including Allison, questioning her sanity. Is what she sees in Seattle real and is there hope in finding out what happened to her sister? Or are they PTSD induced hallucinations brought on by the nearing twenty year anniversary of her sisters abduction? Every twist and every turn in this book leaves you on the edge of your seat and each page drips with suspense.

For all psychological thriller lovers and those who love a good mystery, this is definitely the book for you and if I could give it more than five stars on NetGalley than I absolutely would!

First off I want to thank @netgalley, @keekstarmedia & @hkchristie for my free ARC in exchange for an honest review.

What an amazing thrilling ride. I really enjoyed this one. While reading I knew it reminded me of Jaycee Dugard, which is one of the only non fiction books I've read, and ouff her story is heartwrenching. At the end the author does mention that she was inspired by that story and wanted to show that in kidnapping cases there is hope. I loved that. Although don't get me wrong this book is painful to read.

From the start I was fully engaged and immersed in the story. Allison's attachment to her sister, how after 20 years she never gave up was so inspiring, I loved her so much. I was on the edge of my seat, bitting my nails constantly, I couldn't stop reading I needed to know what happened to Ella. The plot was very well done with the suspense building continuously.

Keep in mind it is gut wrenching but thrilling.

If you want a nail bitting, gut wrenching, thrilling, fast paced read, definitely pick this one up !

Love the ending!

I was so excited to read this and so intrigued by the plot. But I struggled my way through because the writing was so redundant. Paragraphs and sentences repeated words, descriptions, explanations, etc. Even dialogue between characters. It drove me bonkers and pulled me out of the story numerous times and then I'd struggle to get back into it.
