This book was adorable. It had a very slow burn, but I love that! Lots of sexual tension and chemistry up until the point where they finally give in. I love celebrity/regular person stories, and this one hit all the right spots for me. I would highly recommend it!

A funny, charming romcom that deftly employs the small-town romance/insta-love/celeb falls for normal person tropes. Excellent supporting cast, believably complex main characters with relatable problems, mostly chaste but with one really incredibly hot kissing scene. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book!

Patience, Ohio is in big financial trouble. So big that the highest town official is temporary librarian and wanna-be film music composer, Jane Wagner. On a whim she invited handsome film star, Nick Haddon, to attend the annual Harvest Festival. She never expected him to accept, though, and when he arrives, she finds he’s so much more than she anticipated.

Sariah Wilson is great at creating romance between high profile celebrities and everyday people. Jane and Nick are fun and likeable, as are the supporting cast. I loved that Nick had a plan to rediscover romance slowly. I loved their banter, and the dollar bill trading, so cute. I really enjoyed this sweet romance. 3.5/5 Stars.

Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake for this complimentary ARC. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Oh this was such a good read!
The pining between Nick and Jane was palpable and boy did Sariah make us wait. However, when they did finally kiss it was worth the angst.
I loved the town and the atmosphere that was created. I wish more focus had been placed on Jane's composing mojo and how Nick was her muse for composing again. It felt it fell to the wayside a little. The grovelling could have been a bit more OTT especially in a sweet small town romance like this. It calls for grand gestures but other than that, I basically read this in one sitting and loved every minute of it.

This was a sweet rom-com set in the small town of Patience, Ohio. Dreamy movie star meets girl next door type. It's a fun read and a short happily-ever-after type story.

Description:
When Hollywood comes to small-town Ohio, the scene is set for an unpredictable romance in a fun and flirty novel by Sariah Wilson, the bestselling author of The Chemistry of Love . The small town of Patience needs a financial boost. Temporary librarian and aspiring film-score composer Jane Wagner’s plan? Invite movie star Nick Haddon to the town’s harvest festival and stand back for the tourist surge. No one thought he’d say yes―much less that he’d bring a documentary crew to stream his visit. Given Nick’s affinity for trouble, his reputation and films are tanking. Patience is the perfect stopover on a journey of self-improvement and his chance to put good karma out in the universe. Spending time with a sweet and lovely guide like Jane is a bonus. But Jane’s heartbroken past keeps her on guard against men. Especially when they’re jinxed. The truth is, Jane’s falling hard. But she can’t ignore the differences between them. He’s famous. She isn’t. He’s here for two weeks. This is her home. Where can it possibly lead? She’ll see. Because day after blissful day, Nick’s encouraging Jane to trust again and, best of all, to dream beyond Patience.

My Thoughts:
I enjoyed the banter between the characters. There were some humorous situations that made me laugh. It helped that I liked both Jane and Nick. The romance is sweet. The small town seemed like a caring community. This was a light, happy read. Yes, there were some moments and hurdles, but nothing too drastic. Might be a fun beach read.

Thanks to Montlake through Netgalley for an advance copy. This book will be published on July 25, 2023.

Small town Patience is in need of money. The librarian Jane Wagner has an idea. She invites actor Nick Haddon to visit. Her hope is that this will cause a tourism boom. Shockingly he agrees to come and is even bringing a camera crew to make a documentary. Due to his bad boy reputation his publicist insists that he stay with Jane. She isnt a fan of this but Jane thinks it’s just two weeks what could go wrong.
Despite their differences they both start to fall for one another.
The story was slow at times but I feel like it ended quickly.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

I will say that towards the end this one was kind of predictable but that was totally fine. I loved every page and I can not wait for more. This one was super cute and a quick read. Great for this coming summer this is the book to take to the beach with you. I loved the characters the story. This is the Sariah Wilson that I love so well.

I'm a total sucker for a Hollywood or rockstar romance and the is my first Sariah Wilson book and it didn't disappoint. Jane is an aspiring movie music composer, having lived and breathed her life with a soundtrack in her head. Nick is a bit of a troublesome movie star whose star is on the descent as his private life becomes his main story instead of his work.

This is a cosy, easy read that doesn't tax your brain too much. I love books like this as after a hard day I just want to escape into a bit of a confected world. The ending is a bit saccharine and predictable, but I've come to expect that as something romance readers want; I'm in the minority.

Thanks to Montlake and NetGalley for the ARC.

I have read previous books by this author and loved them so I was not surprised when I loved this one as well. It gave me cute small town vibes and I love that. It also had some very interest plots that you don't normally see. It kept me captivated.

I love love loved this book! One of my favorite authors and it did not disappoint! What I loved lost was the slow build up of character development

The idea of this book was cute and intriguing but the execution was too predictable and the writing was too much tell not enough show.

This was a cute and easy read! I really enjoyed it.
It had some Hallmark small town romance vibes 😄

It has great, lovable characters, funny banter + dialogues and swoony moments.
I also really liked the small town vibe, with people having each others back and the helping community spirit.

It is a really slow, slow burn. I maybe would have liked it a little bit less slow 😆.

It wasn’t a spectacular book, but it was very enjoyable to read. So if you're looking for a funny, sweet, clean, celebrity vs small town girl story, I would definitely recommend it 😊

This one had so much promise, but just missed the mark. It was a little too much insta-love, and even that burned a little too slowly for me.

While I was very excited to read this book when I first looked into it, I lost interest very quickly. There were too many factors that I just could not push through. Because of this, I was unable to finish reading. I’m sure there are many people who will enjoy it, it just wasn’t for me, personally.

I am a big fan of Sariah Wilson and was thrilled when NetGalley approved me for an advanced copy. Thank you NetGalley, Sriah Wilson and Montlake! The Hollywood Jinx introduces us to Jane, who is back in her home town after her dad has a heart attack. There is a lot of backstory as to why she is in charge of the Festival that is coming up and it really does lay a great groundwork that is different than any book I have read before. Then we get to meet Nick, who is our Hollywood Jinx! Nick is smooth and at first you don't know if he is being genuine or not - could our hero actually be this good a guy? This book really has a lot of great stuff going for it, but it does have a few things that I think detract too. I don't really believe in love at first sight, lust for sure, but love, the story really has to be exceptional for me to believe in love at first sight. While this story is really good, it isn't quite there to convince me of the insta love. I did believe that they were a couple that would get there, I just didn't feel like the couple was there yet in this story. There are a lot of funny scenes in this book and some very funny one liners - loved the snark of our heroine! The epilogue tied up the story beautifully too. This book is a strong 4.5 stars rounded to a 5.

Things I loved about this book:
Celebrity/Small-town girl romance
Classic Hallmark romantic comedy vibes
Friends to lovers
Humorous town characters
The small-town setting, including a library where the FMC works
The backstory involving parental neglect
Embezzlers
Arson
Movie scores
Real people vs Hollywood-staged relationships

The story is a lot of fun; a pretty classic Hallmark-style romance. The villains are fun to hate, and the movie star and his small-town (but talented) love interest are easy to root for. The humor is found in many of the secondary characters, and their machinations are entertaining when you suspend your disbelief and go along for the ride. Recommended for readers who are looking for a light, sparkling read with some heart.

I love the chemistry between Nick and Jane, and enjoyed the read. However, this is not a5 star book for me. It’s not a bad book, it’s just not Sariah Wilson’s best one….I’m a big fan of hers, but this one is a bit bland. It’s not as exciting and addicting as her previous book, and the plot is a bit slow.
Maybe it’s not fair to compare this to other books, so judging on its own merit, it earns a solid 4 stars from me

Title: The Hollywood Jinx
Author: Sariah Wilson
Publication Date: 07/25/23
Publisher: Montlake
Pages: 300
Genre: General Fiction (Adult), Romance
Format: Kindle
Amazon Rating: -
Goodreads Rating: 3.36 ⭐️
My Rating: 3.5 ⭐️ (rounded up to 4.0 ⭐️)

I know when I grab one of Sariah Wilson’s books, I will be immersed into a slow but steady feel-good read. I don’t care what the plot is, if Sariah wrote it, I want to read it. While half of me loved The Hollywood Jinx the other half wishes there was more to it. The characters were mostly relatable, although Jane felt a bit off to me. I think too much time was spent on Jane avoiding Nick that it took from the Jinx plot. I would have loved to read Nicks POV and circle back to more of Gretchen and Heath. If you like clean romance, light laughter, love at first sight, small town feel-good plot, this one is for you. Seriously though, you can’t go wrong with a Sariah book.

Librarian, Jane Wagner will do just about anything to help her small hometown of Patience, Ohio who is in financial ruins. When she and her sister-n-law, Gretchen makes a video pleading for the big-time movie star, Nick Haddon to make an appearance at her towns festival she envisions flocks of people crashing the festival which would spike the revenue the town so desperately needs. Fast forward: Nick agrees, Agent intervenes, Nick arrives, Nick falls in love, Jane tries to deny her feelings, Jane pushes Nick away, very pregnant sister-n-law Gretchen is giddy over the brewing romance, Library ladies conspire to pair the duo, Nick and Jane fall in love, town is saved. The End.

I simply need more Jinx! Thanks Sariah Wilson, Montlake and NetGalley for my copy in exchange for my honest review.

I think this had such potential but overall I couldn’t connect with Jane and Nick. The background kept me hooked and I love a Hollywood type of romance so if that’s the type of book you love, would give it a try!
