I have to say this was highly entertaining. A clever take on And Then There Was None. A group of Tik-Tok influencers (five women and five men who are more teenagers than adults) are invited to an island to film a reality show called IRL. Some of them have history and know each other, while others only know each other from their social media accounts. They are supposed to be filming for 3 weeks without having access to the outside world (no phones, computers and access to social media). When a storm keeps the filming crew on the mainland things start to go awry. The mysterious Sponsor of the show starts sending them messages though their phones threatening to expose their darkest secrets and people start to drop dead (or "get canceled"). With no way out of the island, panic starts to settle among the influencers. Did the Sponsor have a second motive to attract them on the island and is there a murderer among them? As I said it was entertaining and I had no idea who to trust or what was going on until the end, I was never bored and I devoured it in two days (just because I am a slow reader). The secrets weren't mind-blowing but it all kind of felt believable and made sense in the end. A nice debut and an author to watch. Thank you to NetGalley and MacMillian for providing a free advance copy in exchange for my honest review.

MY REVIEW::
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

I loved this fun, murderous, Gen Z version of Survivor. It had a great locked 🔐 room premise and yet had hints of humor 🤣 throughout. It also gave me Scream 😱 movie vibes and how they tend to explain how things will go for the murderer and the murderee. 🔪🩸
It's ALSOOOOO a great summer ☀️ time read. I read this recently while on a mini vacay 🏖to Florida🌴 and it was the perfect pair!

The ending got kinda crazy 🤪 for me. So many crazy secrets 🤫 unraveled, and it went from one crazy to the next. It definitely was shocking🫢, but I did guess who it was out of like 3 I narrowed it down to.
Overall, I think this was a great fun thriller!👍🏻 Definitely add this to your TBR!!!!

QOTD: Would you go on an island trip all expenses paid even if it felt sketchy? What if they told you to completely unplug?

10 influencers, trying to keep their careers afloat by participating in a reality tv show on an isolated island—what could go wrong?

I know you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover but I do and I did, once I read the description I knew I had to give it a shot. Yes, I’m in my 30s still reading YA and I feel ZERO shame about that.

The beginning started off slow for me and I had a hard time remembering which influencer was which, in fact when the first influencer was found D*E*A*D I had to go back to the beginning chapters to read the back story.

Once I got into it, it was a quick read and I didn’t know who “the sponsor” was though there were clues scattered throughout.

As the story progressed I found myself caring more about the whodunit than the actual influencers getting #CANCELED in the worst way possible. The secrets that piled up echoed real life problems happening in the influencer space and outside of it.

I do wish that Elody would stop saying “like” and “babe” so much, it was distracting but the point was made about what kind of person she’s suppose to be.

For me this was a 3.5. Which means I liked it and it’s worth a read if you think it sounds interesting.

Teens who loved the movie The Menu and People to Follow will love this book. Set in a remote island, a select group of influencers are chosen for a reality show getaway. It quickly turns to murder as influencers are forced to face lied they have told and their ugly truths. An interesting book for discussions with teens about the desire to be social media famous, no matter what the cost.

A YA thriller focused on privileged teens? Yes please! None of the characters were particularly likeable, but I felt that was what the writer wanted. I wasn’t cheering for anyone’s demise, but I also wasn’t sad when certain things happened.
I always love a good thriller and the end twist wasn’t what I expected, which is always awesome when I can’t guess it, but the clues are there.
This it a great summer, guilty pleasure read that I think many people who enjoy other, similar YA thrillers would love.

A beautiful isolated island. Ten influencers participating in a reality show. A dead body and then the dead continue to pile up. They are cut off from society and stranded. No means to reach out to the outside world. Everyone is a suspect and they have to participate in the game. A game that reveals secrets. Secrets that will get them cancelled in more ways than one.

There are more twists and turns than you can count. All the characters are unreliable and as a reader you trust no one. There are 10 characters each with their own story/narration. Initially it's rather confusing and you feel overwhelmed but as time passes and characters are "cancelled" the plot is easier it is to follow and the characters voices become more unique.

Super fast pace, dark and exciting. I couldn't put the book down! I want to see it made into a TV series.

What a fun fast read! Reality TV stars stuck on an island. There isn't much depth for the characters, but then again, it's Reality Tv :). Good summer book

Thanks to NetGalley for the advance copy.

Many thanks to NetGalley for a copy of this book! Murder, influencers and TikTok?? Sign me up! I could not put this book down. So many twists and turns that I did not see coming! At first the characters were a bit overwhelming as there was so many introduced at the same thing but it got easier to remember who was who.

What do you get when you strand 10 young "influencers" on a tropical island under false pretenses - drama, laughs...and MURDER. Am I right? They need to figure out who wants them dead before they get CANCELLED.

First off, I absolutely loved the cover art. I would grab this one off the shelf without reading a word.

Overall, this is the perfect summer beach read. Light, fast, and full of twists and turns. A+

What a wild ride. In this book we follow ten social media influencers who are sent to this island to "decompress" and experience the real world without technology. However, one of them ends up dead and the rest of the influencers are trying to figure out if they are going to be "cancelled" as well. I really did enjoy this thriller. It was a great setting and it was fun to try to figure out what was actually happening. I wish there was more character development but I did enjoy the multiple POVs. It is YA though and I feel as though if it was aged up, I would have enjoyed it more.

3.5 stars

I feel like this book would make a really good movie! It has action, mystery, a little bit of romance. Even though it is YA it didn't feel like it. The characters read very maturely for their age, which I actually like. There were some elements that made this a little 'too coincidental' but sometimes you have to overlook that in fiction. Overall, a solid read! Thanks Netgalley.

I knew this was a YA novel from the start, but I couldn't resist the cover and premise. A bunch of influencers on an island filming a reality show, getting knocked off one by one!
It was a quick, mind numbing read that was still entertaining but made me feel a tad too old.
The characters weren't greatly developed and I had to remind myself who's point of view I was reading at times. 2.75 to 3 just because it is YA.
Thank you Netgalley, publisher, and author for the ARC

A bunch of influences put on a remote island for a reality show, what could possibly go wrong? Everything! This debut novel was a rollercoaster ride of a thriller. It had me changing my mind about who did it too many times to count and the ending completely took me by surprise. It’s a fun read that reminds the reader that everything you see online is not always as it seems. This YA thriller was sent to me as an ARC for an honest review.

While I'm clearly not in this demographic (60+), I nonetheless enjoyed this look at fame and murder amongst modern day influencers. With a nod to Agatha Christie's "And Then There Were None," the reality show on a deserted island idea with a crazed murderer worked pretty well. The multiple POVs were presented logically, with different speech patterns, so it was pretty easy to keep up. While I felt the wrap up was a little convoluted, overall this was a solid entry by a debut author.

I received a complimentary copy of the novel from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

People to Follow is a pretty typical YA thriller. The social media aspect (it's a bunch of young influencers) makes it relevant and interesting. It's certainly similar to And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie-- isolation? check. people harboring secrets? check. one death at a time? check. twists and turns? check.

You do have to suspend some disbelief, but I wasn't offended by it. I appreciated the multiple viewpoints, but some of the voices were not as easy to read as others.

Overall, People to Follow is fun, quick, and readable.

4.5 STARS
10 influencers, no phones, on a remote island 15 miles from the mainland, filming a reality tv show? What could possibly go wrong?! "People to Follow" is a twisty, thrilling story that definitely leaves you guessing until the very last chapter. Written from multiple perspectives, this story follows the influencers from their arrival to the island, to the production crew getting caught in a storm, to the first dead body showing up. Their deepest secrets hang in the hands of their mysterious 'sponsor' and things go from bad to worse very quickly.

I love the twists and turns of this book, and how I thought I knew what was going on every time, but in reality I never did!! This is a 'who done it' style story with plot twists that you'll never see coming!! Overall, I really enjoyed this book- my main gripe being with the character Elody, who was literally on my last nerve. You also definitely forget that the characters are all teens/young adults until they remind you (or start underage drinking lol) BUT if you love reality tv, you will definitely get totally absorbed in this book!

As always, thank you to NetGalley, Olivia Worley, and the publishers for providing an ARC in exchange for my honest review/opinions.

People to Follow is a fast-paced and compulsive thriller. A group of influencers are chosen to travel to a remote island to film a show about unplugging from devices. But when they arrive, there’s no film crew waiting. The influencers receive watches to communicate with their mysterious Sponsor. All of the influencers have secret connections between each other, but are motivated to keep up appearances for the show. A deadly accident occurs and it becomes clear that something about the show isn’t right. When the pretense of the show starts evaporating, the influencers must work together to discover the real reason they're on the island.

People to Follow feels like a summer blockbuster thriller. It’s fun and fast-paced, but there are some twists you can definitely see coming. That said, I had a very hard time putting this book down! There’s always another twist or reveal that adds even more tension. All of the characters are morally gray and have buried secrets that are coming back to haunt them. Kira and Logan were my favorite characters, as they felt more personable than some of the other influencers. Worley creates a thrilling mystery while inviting reflection on influencer culture and the power of stories- including the stories we tell ourselves. Readers who enjoy You Can Trust Me (Wendy Heard), locked-room thrillers, and And Then There Were None (Agatha Christie) should check out People to Follow.

It was just okay. I loved the concept of this (influencers on a deserted island being filmed for a reality show and someone ends up dead) but the characters were all vapid and seemed to have one voice. I would have liked them to have more depth. Great twists and unpredictability but needed better characters.

I liked this book but it reminded me a bit of ‘she started it’ that was the June book of the month pick. I liked this plot with the influencers. Something different. It was a fast read. Read it in a day. I liked Kira and the other characters were ok. Elody saying ‘babe’ at the end of every sentence really got annoying and I didn’t see the point of it. Didn’t make the story and I actually would have enjoyed it more without that.

And Then There Were None gets the TikTok treatment. Hello, yes please, that sounds fun af!

And indeed it was - good cheesy fun! A melodramatic setup (love it), a well-paced plot (no single moment or plot point dragged out too long), a surprising-enough solution (I certainly didn’t call it *all* too far in advance). Plenty of twists and turns, enough that the more predictable ones weren’t a big flaw for me because there was always something else right after. My biggest issue was that the POV voices were waaay too similar, and even with other characters’ names right in front of me, I often had to flip back to the beginning of the chapter to double check whose I was reading at the moment.

Definitely escapist pool/beach reading, and I did enjoy reading it, despite some things I wish had been executed a little better.

Thanks to Wednesday Books for the advance review copy!
