YA thriller about influencers stuck on an island together afraid of being “#canceled”. While I did find this story enjoyable it was told in multiple POV which was slightly confusing in the beginning with so many characters. However, once I figured out who was who I had no trouble. If you mix reality tv with murder… this is exactly what the book reminded me of. I had no idea who the killer was until it was literally spelled out for me.

Thanks to NetGalley& St Martins Press for an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was tagged as YA mystery and while the characters were teens, otherwise it didn't read super young to me. As an adult I enjoyed it just as much as any teenager could. Perhaps some of the 'influencer speak' and other parts of that would could go over the heads of some adults and that could be why it is marketed that way.

But as a story, I really enjoyed. It kept me engaged and entertained and also kept me guessing. It was like an updated version of "And Then There Were None" for the social media saavy. It was a fun twist, having all the different types of influencers and seeing how the reveal all came together at the end.

This is a pretty typical YA thriller. It's a quick, entertaining read, but it's nothing revolutionary. I think teens would love this, though.

just a middle of the road ya/mystery for me! found this one was lacking some character development and found them pretty annoying.

This one just wasn't for me and I think that's just because it's too YA. The way the teens talk is really cringy and superficial and I just couldn't get into it. DNF

This was an twisty YA thriller/mystery, with an interesting ending.

I received an e-ARC from the publisher.

I didn’t realize this was YA when I picked it up, but my views have changed slightly now that I’ve clarified that. Knowing that now, I think this would definitely be an entertaining read for the teen crowd and fans of the YA thriller reads. A balance of social commentary, just right scary and reality show level “reality” in storyline. The story definitely kept me guessing right up to the end with some clever twists I didn’t see coming. Also provided some good behind the scenes views of the dark side of social media and internet fame without being too in your face about it. Definitely worth the read.

This wasn’t the best book I’ve ever read, but definitely was not the worst. I think it was a little too YA for my taste. 10 influencers trapped on an island and have to leave behind their technology. It was interesting that their deepest darkest secrets were being revealed, but the character development was a bit lacking. It was hard to connect.

This story was one that pulled you in from the beginning and was full of suspense and it really kept me thinking until the end.

This is a story to read if you are looking for suspense and so much guessing

A YA Influencer twist on the trapped murder trope. 10 Influencers stuck on an island.
I love this trope - and loved this concept. Yet the book fell flat for me. A decent debut but these characters were challenging for me.

First of all…this cover is GORGEOUS! It is absolutely what drew me in. Unfortunately, that is where the love ended. This one was just not for me. I hated all of the characters and quite frankly just did not care what happened to them.

This YA rendition of the classic closed-circle thriller, reminiscent of Agatha Christie's "And Then There Were None," is skillfully executed and will certainly satisfy fans of the genre. If you're drawn to that particular plot device, this book won't disappoint. However, while the suspense is palpable, I found myself wanting in terms of character depth and emotional connection. The danger didn't grip me as much as I hoped because I struggled to invest deeply in the characters facing it. Nonetheless, individual reader experiences may vary, and for those who relish this style of thriller, I'd still recommend giving it a read.

this was such a fun and twisty ya thriller. I had this as an early arc, but didn’t get to it until now so I was able to listen to it as an audio. I enjoyed it and listening to the different narrators they had. It held my attention from the beginning to end and it was non stop, who did it until the end!

3.5 rounded up.

Ten teen influencers sail out to a deserted island to “unplug” in, what they think is, a reality tv show called “In Real Life”. They are completely shut off from social media or any communication with the outside world. Things quickly spiral downhill when the production crew never shows and a body is found. Secrets are being revealed and one of them is out for revenge…

This was an entertaining YA thriller! The twists kept coming and I was enthralled with their dirty little secrets. Rich people drama just gets me going for some reason😂 Overall, I enjoyed the storyline of the plot. I was unable to guess the baddie which is a huge plus.

Some of the characters did get on my nerves. I could hear the snob in the writing. I wish some would have been killed off quicker than others for sure. Another complaint of mine is that the only POC character didn’t get as much “screen time” as she should have. I believe her character needed more representation, especially in a book about teen influencers.

Overall, I would recommend this book to new adults/ highschoolers. It does have some heavy content at times, so definitely not younger than that. This was fast paced, easy to follow, with an interesting concept.

This book is messy in that "I can't look away" kind of way. Someone has invited quite a few young influencers to an island to film a reality TV show. All the members of the popular TikTok house, The Bounce House, are there, as well as a couple of former members, a journalist that does exposes, and an up and coming Twitch streamer. They are met by the mysterious Tilly, who tells them they're on their own for the next 3 weeks and it doesn't take long for tensions to rise....and people to die.

Messy, messy, messy, in both good and bad ways. We all love a book that shows us rich and famous people behaving badly and getting their just desserts, and this book takes it to the extreme as people start dying--someone falls off a balcony, another person somehow comes into contact with peanuts, and more. I can't believe the body count this book has--and every time someone else died, I wondered how there were still people left on the island to die.
Since it is a locked room/island mystery in the vein of And Then There Were None, you know that the person behind everything *has* to be on the island, and Worley kept me guessing until the final reveal. Every time you think you have it figured out....you don't. That was really well done, but the characterization of all the characters was....not the best. They were all just stereotypes of all the different influencer types--the fitness guru, the nutrition expert, the gamer, the journalist, etc. You could easily predict how each character was going to react to everything by which archetype they were. That was predictable and honestly kind of boring. But what saved the book from being the hottest of messes was how well Worley kept the secret of who actually was behind everything and why.

I loved the idea behind this one, but it missed the mark a bit for me. BUT I believe it was more of a me problem than a problem with the actual story. I personally found myself uninterested half way through as I found the characters immature and unlikeable. I did force myself to finish for the satisfaction of knowing who was behind everything. Again, I don't think I am part of the target audience for this one, but I do think others would enjoy it more.

A take on And Then There Were None, but make it influencers. For anyone that has been on TikTok since 2020 when the game of influencers was changed once again. I found myself wondering what could be revealed next and I gasping at each turn.

Where to start! I think I’ll start with I’m the problem it’s me. And I didn’t know until recently!

Okay so I finally read and then there were none last month and discovered that the that storyline is not necessarily for me. So if I had read that before I had this, I probably wouldn’t have put this on as a book that I wanted to make a priority. But here’s the thing it’s not a bad book at all. but after reading the source material, I just don’t think this trope is for me because I find it really frustrating to be in all of the characters heads, and they withhold something from you when you’re in their head. Like I’m in your head with your thoughts, how are you gonna keep a secret (or in this case a whole identity) from the reader?? I’ve just really come to realize that trope is not for me.

However, besides that. I think the story was interesting enough. Lots of confusing plot lines, all characters involved in each others lives, the vanity of being an influencer, it was all interesting. The writing was good & I think the modern take on and then there were none had something new to bring to the table. I just hate that this didn’t work for me! 😩

Thank you, netgalley for my copy of this book.

This YA mystery thriller is about 10 influences who travel to an island to film a reality show. There are secrets, a dead body and no way to communicate with the rest of the world.

This one pulled me in right away but the middle I did find a little slow. I definitely didn’t see the twist coming though so overall I enjoyed this one!

3 stars.

I just finished watching the Korean drama Night Has Come and felt this was VERY similar so it kept me interested to see how this would end. I enjoyed the mystery aspect of it but didn't expect the ending at all. Maybe because I'm not the key demographic of this book, I found the characters pretty annoying but also pretty spot on for being "influencers" who have done bad things. It was an interesting plot figuring out how they were all connected and the web they wove together being there. I would probably suggest this book to my teenage daughter but not to my adult friends.
