Have You Seen Her got me hooked on the very first page!

I absolutely loved it! It was the thriller I didn't know I needed!

I loved the setting, in Yosemite National Park. I listen to True Crime podcasts, so I know some creepy stuff happens in National parks. People disappear, bodies turn up.

This book really kept me on the edge of my seat, and I really didn't see the twist ending coming!

Also, I enjoyed the romance sub-plot, which also made me want to keep reading to see what would happen next.

I definitely recommend this book to all fans of thrillers and mysteries!

Thank you to Netgalley and Atria Books for the eARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

Many thanks to NetGalley, Simon & Schuster Atria Books for gifting me a digital ARC of the latest thriller by Catherine McKenzie - 4. 5 stars rounded up!

Cassie ran away from her life in NYC and the secrets she's holding from that life. She ran home to Mammoth Lakes, CA, and got her old job back as a member of the Yosemite Search & Rescue Team. But that job holds painful memories as well from something that happened a decade ago that still haunts Cassie. At the local campsite, she meets Petal, a young woman involved with Sandy, an older woman, as well as Jada and Jim, a couple instagramming their trip in their Airstream. When Jada and Jim go missing, everything seems to come full circle for Cassie as her past confronts her.

This was quite the thriller and I couldn't put this one down, and never saw that ending coming. Cassie kept lots of secrets and you could feel her fear when the past reared its head in the present. Jada and Jim's story certainly reminded me of the Gabby Petito story. It was also fascinating to read about search and rescue teams in such wilderness areas - true heroes putting themselves at risk to help others. Another fabulous thriller by Catherine McKenzie!

Summer Roommates is an inspiring lovely story about aging, agism, being stuck in your ways, the challenges women face as they grow older, companionships and of course love. The story takes the reader on a journey with four older women in their fifties up to their seventies, all strangers to each other who live in a house in Maine for the summer, most set in their ways and the challenges they endure to not only get along and understand each other, but to also begin to comprehend themselves.

Until recently, Sandra Pennington seemed to have it all. Two great children all grown up, a loving husband, terrific friends and the beauty of her coastal town in Maine. But with the death of her husband and now her best friend diagnosed with dementia and having to be put in a care facility, this past winter came with a loneliness she had never experienced.

So, Sandra decides, with the help of a realtor to open her home up for the summer to three older women for not only the comfort of having others around, but to see if perhaps she would like to continue this experiment in the future.

She goes through the applications and picks the three women.

Mary, a lawyer who has recently retired from the job she loved due to the stress of the company being sued. Although they were found not at fault, it took its toll on Mary who now just wants some down time to relax and rebuild herself to discover what she wants next in life. Never having children and not close to her only sibling due to being a workaholic, she feels the need to discover who she is now that she’s not working.

Amanda, who is a teacher decides she needs a vacation before the next school year starts. She has lived with her boyfriend Liam for eight years. They are comfortable together and both feel marriage is not an option. Although she feels independent, she does seem to rely on Liam a great deal. Liam for some reason thinks this time away would be great for her.

Patty, the oldest is the quietest yet dresses the loudest. She lives with her sister and brother-in-law as her income is inconsistent, because of fleeting jobs which has left her with hardly any money for her retirement, a fact her sisters insist on reminding her on a daily basis. This certainly was not the way she thought she would end up. All she ever wanted was to be married and have children. But she made poor choices when she was younger to needless to say, that ship has certainly sailed!

And with the cast of characters in place for the summer, as they try to cohabitate, there are some arguments, heated debates and discussions about life, friendship and even love. As the women begin to open up to each other, they also look inward. They soon bond and all try to imagine what their futures could be like. What they discover will change their lives forever.

Summer Roommates is an uplifting, wonderfully different take on aging with strong characters and unorthodox options for their futures. And why not? You are as young as you feel!

This book has a great twist I didn’t see coming. I think the beginning could have been a lot shorter and gotten to the twist faster. This book was pretty unique, so I enjoyed it!

Thank you to @atriathrillers for the copy of HAVE YOU SEEN HER by Catherine McKenzie. This one is out now.

I really enjoyed this book! The atmosphere was absolutely perfect and I really liked these characters. This one is twisty and kept me guessing the entire time. Told through different timelines and including Instagram posts was a nice touch. I highly recommend this one.

Catherine McKenzie does it again-her latest release, Have You Seen Her, is another twisty novel that is sure to be a hit. When Cassie returns to Yosemite as part of the summer Search and Rescue (SAR) program, she is hoping to blend in as she is running from her new life-right back into her old one. Ten years ago, a search and rescue mission had a tragic ending. Now, ten years later, fresh from a marriage to a wealthy New Yorker, she returns home to many questions and memories of the past. Hiding from her husband, Cassie tries to stay one-step ahead him-terrified he will find her in spite of all the precautions she has taken. Young couple, Jada and Jim, are spending the summer going cross-country in an Airstream and settle at Yosemite while Petal and her older partner Sandy have pulled up stakes as well. When Jada and Jim go missing, simliar to ten years ago, the action and twists heat up. Is it just a coincidence that another young couple has disappeared? When Jada, Petal and Cassie collide the consequences may just be deadly.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for my feedback.

This was a little too much of a slow burn for me, and I never became invested in any of the characters. I kept reading because I needed to know how the story ended, but this one just didn't click with me.

This book grabbed my attention from the start and didn't let up for a minute! Then came a twist that I NEVER expected which put a whole new slant on everything. I LOVE it when that happens!!

Catherine McKenzie never fails to deliver or satisfy. I highly recommend this read!

My thanks to Atria books for allowing me to access a DRC of this book via NetGalley. The novel is scheduled for release on 6/27/23. All opinions expressed in this review are my own and are freely given.

This one moved too slow for me and was very dragged out. The ending came together nicely, but I was also just glad for it to be over by that point and didn’t really care. Even though this was a miss for me, I will still give this author another shot!

Have You Seen Her by Catherine Mackenzie

Cassie Peters is a woman on the run. She’s running from her life, from her demons, she’s running from some hidden past she doesn’t share with anyone. In an effort to escape one life, she returns to a familiar place and time – working as a Search and Rescue technician deep in Yosemite National Park. But over the course of the summer, frightening things happen. Cassie receives several threatening text messages from a blocked number to her burner phone. People go missing in the park. Old faces from Cassie’s past start popping up around her, while she is supposed to be off the grid. What is happening in Yosemite, and who is coming for Cassie?

Catherine Mackenzie can really write a tense, adventurous thriller! This book was a page turner full of cryptic back story that gave just enough detail to keep the reader engaged and invested in what was happening with the main character. I have never visited Yosemite National Park, but felt like I was there in the story as I read it. The descriptions of the wild, rugged forest and mountains were executed perfectly and really served to make the reader feel just how remote the location was.

My only critique is that the middle of the book started to drag on a little bit as it seemed the plot stalled on the search for some of the missing travellers in the park. Without a little bread crumb to offer a clue, there was a missed opportunity to keep up the tension.

It did pick up, however. One thing that is sure to impress me is when I don’t guess the big twist. Chalk up one more point for Have you Seen Her! I had no idea how all of the threads would come together towards the end to finally bring clarity and solve the mystery of who Cassie was, what the heck she was doing and why. Once the twist was revealed, all the missing pieces were placed and the puzzle was satisfyingly solved.

Thank you NetGalley, Atria Books and Catherine Mackenzie for giving me a free ARC of this book to review in exchange for my honest opinions. All thoughts above are my own.

Have You Seen Her is a slow paced psychological thriller. Suspense and intrigue surround Cassie the moment you are introduced to her. You know she’s escaping and she’s scared. The thrill of the climbing, hiking and being part of SAR was interesting and something I had never encountered in a book before.
The fear and intrigue grows slowly in this book as you learn more and more about the past and present. I like the way the story was told through not only Cassie’s POV, but also Petal’s journal entries and Jada’s Instagram posts.
I like the way the story unfolded. The ending truly managed to surprise me. I loved how open-ended the conclusion was and how it makes you think about the story long after you finish reading.

This book kept me on the edge of my seat. Told from multiple viewpoints and timelines I found it very easy to follow. Unfortunately, this one was a DNF for me. I found myself not invested in the story, and not wanting to pick the book back up when I put it down. I know many other people have enjoyed this book, it just did not work for me.

4 stars
I haven't read any books by this author, but I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and am looking forward to reading more from Catherine McKenzie in the future. I loved the different storytelling throughout each chapter (ex. chapters, Instagram posts, and journal entries). The atmosphere of the writing was fantastic. It created a level of suspense within a couple of different storylines and timelines. The twist at the end was not one I was expecting and I would want to go back and reread parts to see if I could pick up on the hints.

I would highly recommend this book to any thriller reader!

Really enjoyed this one and would especially recommend if you like the setting as the writing is very atmospheric. The characters are all fully realized and interesting to read about. Some of the mystery elements are predictable (as a seasoned mystery reader) but some things caught me off guard. Very entertaining overall and definitely recommend!

I really enjoyed this book. Catherine keeps you on your toes through the entire novel, with twists you dont see coming. Full of excitement and suspence, she tells this wild story about three women with dark secrets, best kept in the past.

It's difficult to imagine a psychological Thriller more convoluted than HAVE YOU SEEN HER?, the newest release by Catherine McKenzie (Release June 27). Add to the event twists and the plot twists an entire set of twisted characters: not the good, the bad, and the ugly, but instead the bad, the worse, and the really evil. The latter section is pretty much an every page revelation, a new occurrence of "Did I Just Read THAT?" accompanied by "WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE?" This novel is definitely a hair-raising ride [and no, I didn't warm up to any of these characters; but the resonance throughout the entire novel to a certain true-crime Wilderness trek/#vanlife in August 2021 and subsequently is powerful, as if I were reading of those events simultaneously].

A new book from one of my favorite Canadian authors, how could I pass it up?!
It was a decent read too. It wasn't my favorite though. I hate dual timelines. The bounce from past to present, never been a fan of that style of writing. I'm a more straightforward kind of girl. So right away it was taking me longer to read because of that. Once I got into the story it was better for me, and the timelines didn't bother me so much.
I wasn't a huge fan of the ending either, but more because it felt rushed. Like you took all that time to lead to the build up and it kind of fizzled out for me. A great middle part, plot twist and all that kept you reading with intrigue. I felt like the end just didn't do the story justice.
Still, as a whole, I liked the book. The plot was interesting. The twist was ferocious but I ate it up.
As always, I look forward to whatever else the author writes. 3.5/5

This book just wasn’t for me. I felt like the pacing was a little too slow and I never found myself eager to pick the book back up. It wasn’t the writing that I didn’t care for but the development of the story.

This was a great read, propulsive & atmospheric! I was hooked from the very beginning, and I enjoyed the build-up to the twisty ending that I didn't see coming. Highly recommend! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
