Read this book if you like: Podcast style, slow burn, unreliable characters

I love Lisa. This just didn't do it for me like her past books. It's an interesting concept. It just did not grab me enough. I don't love things being left up to my interpretation.

4 1/2 stars. I want to start by saying: this was absolutely riveting. I inhaled this book. The only way the pages could have turned faster is if I had more hours in my day. The reason I am not giving None of This Is True five stars, which I thought I would for 95% of the book, is that I feel conflicted about the ending. Maybe it is because I have certain expectations from Jewell at this point, and the ending here didn't fit with them... I just know that I wanted more from the final chapters. In a way, it felt unfinished. Could there be a sequel lined up? But back to me gushing about the stuff I loved because this is a ride. Jewell throws together two women-- birthday twins, born on the same day in the same hospital -- from very different backgrounds. Alix Summer, with her seemingly perfect life as a podcaster and her seemingly perfect family in their beautiful house, and Josie, a woman from a council estate with a past filled with abuse, grooming and who-knows-what other horrors. When Josie proposes she be a guest on Alix's podcast to tell the story of her life, Alix is curious about this strange woman. Josie lets Alix into her life and history through the podcast and Alix, in turn, gradually lets Josie into her life too. But the more Alix comes to know Josie and her past, the more she worries she's made a terrible mistake. Lots of short, punchy chapters, interspersed with a Netflix documentary and podcast extracts, all make for a very fast-paced read.

I loved this book! Jewell is a fantastic storyteller. The birthday twins and podcast was the perfect plot for this strange story Josie tells. Josie was such a bizarre character which fit her story so well. She felt like a real person to me which is scary at the least (lol).

I loved how this story played out. It was fast paced but I was hoping for more from the ending. 4.5 stars rounded to 5

I loved this psychological thriller! This was a great “birthday twins” plot line- that I have never read before!! If you want a fast paced thriller with great twists this is for you!

Lisa Jewell can do no wrong! Her latest novel is a well written gripping and engaging psychological thriller, that had me completely hooked from the very first few lines. I could just not put it down and ended up finishing it in one day. Well written, with a perfectly paced, twisty plot and characters whose actions just kept me guessing the entire time. So far, my favourite book of 2024.

I listened to this on audio and have to say that the audiobook production and execution was absolutely amazing and definitely recommend if you're looking for a new audiobook to listen to. It's a 10 hour audiobook which I ended up listening to in 1 day, that's how engaging and entertaining it was.

This book threw me for a whole loop, I was not quite sure where this book was headed in the first half. The story was very interesting with the plot line of the podcast and how the reader was able to pick up on details of the future by the scene notes from the Netflix Special that arose from the podcast. However, once the real mystery started to unfold and the story completely caught me off guard, I understood why a lot of people loved this book! This book makes you think, I have a love/hate relationship with books that never give a straightforward answer on what the truth is; and I think that’s the whole premise of this book. I had to go back and reread parts of this book, especially the ending, once I finished because I was so sure I could figure it out. I am still sitting here thinking about what is right and wrong about this book. The writing was phenomenal, the characters were very well written and the shift in the book was done so well that my jaw was on the floor when the book was finished. This was my first book by Lisa Jewell but it definitely won’t be my last, if you’re looking for a thriller that will have you second guessing everything you read, and left wanting more, I highly recommend this one!

The absolute best book I’ve read so far in 2023. I was hooked from the very beginning and then spent a good 3/4 of the book nonstop reading.
None of This is True is about two women who have the same birthday meeting up in the local pub and beginning a podcast based on Josie’s life story and how she’s wanting to make a new change in her life.
There’s so many shockers at first to Josie’s story that you just have to keep reading to find out how and why. Then finding out will blow your mind.
I can’t recommend this enough. This is the perfect thriller of 2023.

The queen of mystery thrillers has done it again. The story grabbed my attention from the beginning until the very end. Perfect in every way. I highly recommend it.

This novel pulled me in and I could not stop reading. I enjoyed this summer read and picked up more of Lisa Jewell's books!

Alix Summers is a well-known podcaster. She is celebrating her forty-fifth birthday at the local pub with her husband and friends. Nearby, Josie Fair is also celebrating her birthday. She is also turning forty-five. When Alix goes to the restroom, Josie follows. They have a brief interaction where Josie tells Alix, they are birthday twins. The next time they see each other, Josie propositions Alix to have her on her podcast and convinces her she would be a great subject for her next one. Alix agrees and that's when it starts to get weird. Alix can hardly believe what Josie tells as she opens up about her life. By the time Alix realizes that Josie is crazy - it's too late.

This was an intereseting story and I was looking forward to the psychological thriller part. I was pretty engaged for the first two-thirds of the book, but the last third fell flat. I disliked one of the main characters - Josie (but I guess that was the point of the book).

Alix and Josie are about as opposite as can be except…both were born on the same day in the same hospital. When their paths cross on their 45th birthdays, a friendship seems kismet and Alix begins a new podcast sharing their stories. But as Josie shares more of her strange and complicated life, it’s clear something is up and more than one will be in danger.
This was a great psychological thriller and still managed to squeeze in a surprise at the end.

Lisa Jewell is an auto buy author for me and this book is exactly why! I was captivated from the very first page and could NOT put the book down. The characters in this story were all icky in some way to me, but that made the storylines themselves move so quickly. I simply could not wait to see what insane thing happened next. The ending left me completely shook!

Wow, this was so good. I couldn’t put it down! Lisa Jewell does it again—and this might be her best one yet. I recommend this to everyone but especially those who love a slow-burn thriller that keeps you guessing right to the end.

None of This Is True by Lisa Jewell is a psychological thriller about two women who meet and decide to make a podcast together since they have a shared birthday. But the more research that Alex, the podcast host, does about Josie, the stranger things get. This was very twisty and fun, and I really enjoyed it. I could not put this book down and the ending was just so crazy. I am still not sure what to make of it all. The characters and plot were so engrossing and I could not have predicted that ending if I tried.

In this novel, Alix is a podcaster and is out celebrating her 45th birthday when she meets Josie, another woman also celebrating her 45th. Josie comments that they are birthday twins. When the two women run into each other a few days later, Josie convinces Alix to do a podcast about her, with the premise of how two individuals born on the same day, in the same hospital, can lead such different lives. Alix begins to realize that not everything about Josie is as it seems, but she is drawn into her story and wants to see the podcast to the end. But, at what cost?

This is the first novel that I have read by Lisa Jewell and it won't be the last. It was intense and fast paced, keeping me on the edge of my seat, waiting to find out what would happen next. The story was told so that the reader could see what was happening from both Josie's and Alix's perspectives. It made it more nail-biting because I knew things that were happening that the other characters didn't.

I have been a fan of Lisa Jewell for some years and this one didn't disappoint!
I didn't find the characters very likable but then that probably was the point. Alix seems a very stuck-up woman and Josie is just plain weird! The story gets stranger the more you read and you are left questioning everything you have read!

I didn't see the twist coming at the end which always makes a great thriller!
If you are a fan of Lisa Jewel's previous work this one is a must-read!

Her best book yet. I loved the final twist and the seed that it planted in the reader’s mind about who was telling the truth after all.

None of This Is True is a wild and twisty ride. I am still not sure what is true and what is not. Five stars!

What the hell did I just read?!
I devoured this. I had no idea where the story was going and I was glued to it. And geez!! What a ride this was. I really love a lot of Lisa Jewell’s books, but this may be my new fave!!
