I think this book starts a little slow, but the action soon picks up. I didn’t like Maya, she just seems to be about duty and not much else. I loved the rest of the characters, especially Bailey. She’s a very brave little girl. I do wish Eve was in more of the story. I love the fate of the bad guy. #TheSurvivor #NetGalley

As always with this author you get a thrill ride you can't put down. Riley and Cade are back along with some new and interesting characters to fall in love with. Not to mention a bit of Eve and Joe. There's action, suspense, myths, treasure, and a nasty villain. What more could fans want? I was on the edge of my seat until the very end. And what an ending!

This was another great novel by an incredible author! Though I don't recommend reading it as a standalone. As a hard core Iris Johansen fan, I always love having characters from her previous books making appearances later on. It really makes it feel like one big world she's created that we get to step into now and again. While this novel was more walking the line of fantasy, which I'm not usually as big a fan of, I found this book to be immensely enjoyable.

Eve Duncan teams up with Riley Smith and man do they ever take the reader on an adventure. This is the 30th Eve Duncan novel! An island setting that is typically romantic brings plenty of poachers and action! Eve and Riley have teamed up to take on treasure hunters and save a rare species that is on this little island. And that's just what's going on at surface level. Beneath it all, there is so much more happening. And there are plenty of other characters that pop up as well! Another reason why it's better to have read previous Iris Johansen novels, as there are a lot of Easter eggs and background details from previous books.

I loved the romance between Riley and Cade and I absolutely loved all of the adventure, danger, action, and discoveries. It's unsurprising that I was hooked from page one all the way until the last word and am anxiously awaiting another installment. Iris Johansen has crafted a world that's easy to get lost in and characters that are easy to care about. This book had everything I could have asked for and then some. While I didn't expect the fantasy element to become as large a part of this book as it did, it surprised me with how it not only didn't take away from my enjoyment of the story, but added to it.

If you're an Eve Duncan fan, Riley Smith, or Iris Johansen fan, I strongly recommend this book to you! I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest thoughts and review. All opinions expressed are my own.

This the story of Riley and Cade. It also occasionally throws in the usual cast of characters that show up in her books. Things get blown up and things get found and we meet some new people. A very entertaining book!

This was another hit from the author. The book was an enjoyable mystery read. However, if I had not read previous books with these characters I may have been lost. Not a good stand alone book.

I started very confused and felt like I was missing some background. It got better but just eh overall. The dialogue felt so forced and the characters were hard to get into or feel much for.

I'm not quite sure what to offer up here in this uniquely crafted piece by Iris Johansen.
If you're into magical creatures, rainbows, roses, and wizards this is for you.
I'm more of a thriller reader who loves suspense and this is a general fiction novel with heavy leaning towards fantasy.
The novel begins with poachers, an island, and some hair raising experiences with our main crew Eve and Riley.
Riley was attacked by this Nadim guy whose a nasty guy with plans to destroy whatever he touches.
In the meantime, getting rid of Nadim and making this island safe is our end goal.
However, there's more players in the game which means more fires, avalanches, and danger.
If only we could fly away on a magic carpet or grab a snowmobile whatever you might have lying around.
Booby traps are everywhere. Be careful where 'ya step!
Ok, but rockslides?
You know if only we could all live forever what a wonderful world it would be.
With that said perhaps a drug that makes us live on is necessary?
Spiders, waterfalls, rainbows, but snowmobiles?
Well, all in a day's work and now we must relax or was that relocate?
It's a zoo out there and I'm just glad we fixed Nadim!
Perhaps the girl that was in danger can now lived amongst the deer in peace.....
Thank you to Iris Johansen, Grand Central Publishing, NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for this honest review.
