I tried to read this book several times, but I just could never quite get into it. I think this speaks way more to me as a reader than La Rosa as a writer. I'll have to try another of hers some other time!

Sadly, I couldn't get into this one. While I love a good trope, this was not it for me. The writing was choppy and lackluster. (On the first page, almost every paragraph was only a sentence or two long and started with "She" or "So,".) The characters felt one-dimensional and immature yet also trying to do too much, and so collectively it just didn't work great for me. If I want cheesy romance, I want to like the characters and feel invested. Or I want the writing to be fantastic to makeup for the cheese fest. This missed the mark all around for me, unfortunately.

An adorable love story! I love books about books and this story about a romance author who’s never been in love was so good. Sophie has to overcome her writers block by reuniting with her exes to find out where it all went wrong. Starting a social media video to document, she enlists the help of her reclusive landlord, Dash. Over the course of the story, the two of them grow closer and sparks fly.

I liked this book a lot! It had me feeling all the things and wanting more. I can’t wait to read more romances from Erin La Rosa in the future!

Very cute, quick read! Great, potato-chippy romance with relatable characters. I would recommend those who love the genre to read this book.

I have mixed feelings on this one. On the one hand, I enjoyed the romance between Dash and Sophie, and that the story covered some heavier topics such as alcoholism and complicated family dynamics. On the other, I don't think this book executed the concept of "heroine reaching out to past flames to find out what went wrong" as well as other books I have read. At the same time, I had a hard time believing that Sophie would go viral in the way that she did (but maybe that's just me not understanding the fickle nature of TikTok and what goes viral). While I did enjoy a lot of the rom-com movie type of vibes throughout this book, I still enjoyed the first book in this series, For Butter or Worse, more.

There was a little too much going on in this book for my liking. We had stalking, addiction, family drama, lying, meeting up with exes and probably more. We could have been okay with just two of those things.

I also did not love Sophie. She was very self centered and I just didn’t vibe with her. I found the whole plot of her seeing her exes completely pointless.
Dash was lovely and probably the reason k kept reading.

Overall I liked the book but I didn’t love it. I do plan to read the other books in this series.

3 stars | 2 spice

There was a lot going on in this contemporary romance: romance (of course), writer's block, stalkers, struggling with addiction, meeting up with past exes, and family drama. I liked the idea that Sophie was going through her dating history to see where things went wrong, I also love a forbidden-type romance and how Dash was her brother's best friend AND her landlord.

The story itself was cute and I did like Sophie and Dash together. There's a little bit of spice in this, nothing too heavy but a solid 3-ish scenes. The spice was well written and not cringy like some are - but the cringe definitely comes out in their relationship and the fact they kept avoiding their feelings. It got a little annoying with the back and forth of Dash being like "I'm not good enough for her" and Sophie being all "I can't be with him."

There was a lot I appreciated though in the different representations like Sophie's pacemaker, LGBTQ+ reps, and alcohol addiction. I also appreciated the squirrel that kept terrorizing Dash.

Overall, a solid 3-star romance. Nothing wowed me about it but I wasn't disappointed either. I would like to check out the first in the series, For Butter or Worse. I would recommend this for a contemporary romance lover who doesn't need a lot of spice in their book but appreciates a little.

Big thanks to Erin La Rosa, Harlequin Trade Publishing and NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinions!

This was a cute read. It held my attention and the characters were good. It just didn't wow me. It's a great book though and I still recommend you check it out!

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for an arc of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.

I really enjoyed Plot Twist and I love that Sophie is Nina's sister (from For Butter or Worse) because I was already connected with Nina's character from the last book and while this is a completely different story, I got to see how Nina and Leo are doing after theirs ended, which feels like an extended epilogue or extra chapter and that's just fun.
Sophie's character felt very relatable, she's a writer with writer's block, specifically a romance writer who hasn't felt like she's ever really been in love. I think that having a little bit of imposter syndrome is something most people can relate to and a lot of romance readers and writers can also probably agree that occasionally reading a ton of romance novels can lead to seeing idealized versions of their partners or wanting something that isn't actually what they have without knowing it. Dash is also really relatable because he's like the perfect example of middle child syndrome -- which doesn't actually require being the middle child but is more of a feeling of not being good enough and constantly being compared to your siblings. I always prefer a book where the characters are both relatable in some way so that definitely helped me connect to the characters more and I like that they are dealing with more than just trying to find love; Dash is working through his addiction and coming to terms with how he sees his future/career and Sophie is trying to work through her writer's block to finish her manuscript so that she doesn't lose her publishing contract/career over it, while also trying to find out why it is she's never fallen in love.
I'm not a TikTok girlie but it didn't bother me at all that it's referenced often and the basis for Sophie's self-discovery through her exes and Dash's outlet for his passion and his escape from all that's going on. This made sense to me since a lot of authors/celebrities/creators are utilizing TikTok, so our main characters: a romance author and an actor from a famous family would be using this platform either to sell their product/themselves and connect with fans or at least be really familiar with how to do so.
Overall if you want a steamy, best friend's brother, only one bed romance book, look no further!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of the ebook through NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own. This book was published in mid-November so it should definitely be available at your local bookstore or library! My review is shared to Goodreads, Amazon and Instagram.

This book has it all. My fave trope included is the secret identity and it is done so well. You truly understand his reasons for keeping it a secret. Plot Twist also has serious topics it deals with and does it wth compassion and sensitivity. The chemistry between Sophie and Dash is hot and irresistible. This was a great read and I'll be looking for more books form La Rosa.

She’s written off more than she can chew…

Romance author Sophie Lyon’s ironic secret just went viral: she’s never been in love. Though her debut novel made readers swoon, Sophie’s having trouble getting her new characters to happily-ever-after, and she blames it on her own uninspired love life. With a manuscript deadline looming, Sophie makes an ambitious plan to overcome her writer’s block: reunite with her exes to learn why she's never fallen in love—and document it all for her millions of new online followers. Which also means facing her ex-girlfriend Carla, the one person Sophie could have loved.

Luckily, Sophie’s reclusive landlord, Dash Montrose—a former teen heartthrob—has social media all figured out and offers to help. But he doesn't mention that he’s an anonymous online crafter, a hobby that helps him maintain his sobriety. No one knows about his complicated relationship with alcohol and he intends to keep it that way. His family is Hollywood royalty, so Dash has to steer clear of scandal.

As Sophie and Dash grow closer, they discover a heat between them that rivals Dash's pottery kiln. But Sophie needs to figure out who she is outside her relationships, and Dash isn’t sure he’s stable enough for the commitment she deserves. So Sophie suggests what any good romance author would: a friends-with-benefits arrangement. Surely a casual relationship won’t cause any trouble…

this was super cute and sweet. i love her confidence in her journey of talking to all of her exes like um no thanks! i love the family drama that this has. i love that the characters have to work on themselves first. i love the friends to lovers trope so much!

i received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed this sweet and sexy romance, which included hints of necessary angst and tackled sensitive subjects such as alcoholism and dysfunctional family relationships, just as much as the author's previous book. The forced proximity and friends-to-lovers tropes were also well-executed.

I enjoyed This adorable story! Overall is was sweet with a hint of spice. I don’t Really enjoy current pop culture in books, the mentions of Tik Tok was too much and I did have to push through to finish. I would Like to check out other books from the author in the future.

While I usually love imperfect people in the books I read, Sophie was absolutely a hot mess that just frustrated me sometimes. Some of her actions I really questioned and shook my head at, but I did still end up rooting for her and Dash. Dash was great and an absolute sweetheart with very complicated family dynamics and drama. I did like the way Rosa handled the heavy topics that were discussed and bonus points for bi-sexual representation and the fact that the main character wore a pacemaker. Things like this need to be normalized in media and this is a very good start.

However, I do feel like La Rosa relied too heavily on romance tropes for Plot Twist. I do wish she would have let her writing shine through more rather than rely on those old cliches. Sophie and Dash did have a lot of chemistry and I am very glad that we did not have to wait too long for that spicy heat to make an appearance, wow was it hot. I also really liked the ending and epilogue as I felt like these characters deserved it.

Overall, a solid romance especially if you're a fan of tropes.

FINALLY! Here we go...

Best friends older brother? Immediately yes, every single time.

Sophie is a romance author, who has never been in love, with The block and Dash is a former actor on the road to recovery. Oh and Sophie's BFF just happens to be Dash's sister who would definitely NOT appreciate them deciding to have feelings for each other. Why? Well because if it all goes wrong she's out a BFF.

It's funny that Dash is Sophie's landlord for how long and they just happily avoid each other until Sophie goes off the deep end in a drunken haze and Dash is recruited to make sure she's okay. I really enjoyed watching Sophie sift through her past relationships trying to figure out why she has never been in love. I also loved Dash's recovery journey. It doesn't all go perfectly but the way they recover together was really nice to read.

Oh my goodness, I just loved the heck out of this book!!! Ever since I read the blurb for this book, I just HAD to read it and was overjoyed when it landed on my kindle.

This author had wrote an incredible combination of romance, an upbeat and fun plot, and also managed to tackled more sensitive topics with the care they deserved. I always love and respect when authors are able to do it all like she did. But also don’t get me wrong and think it was all intense emotion… because damn can Erin write good spice. Props to her!!!

This was my first book by this author and I will definitely be reaching for more books written by her in the future. I loved her writing style and the way she wrote her characters. It was all so special and I definitely loved that this was my first book by her.

The ideas behind this book were good, and the tropes were spot on for a romance novel, but the romance itself felt a little bit lacking. I didn't feel like I got enough of Dash and Sophie's chemistry. I wish we had a chance to see more of Dash's artistic side too. It was a quick read and definitely spicy, I just wanted more out of it.

I've tried reading this book several times but it unfortunately just never grabs me, so I've DNFed at 34%. I truly hope this is a personal issue and not a reflection of the book and that others may enjoy it. Maybe one day I'll be able to come back to it.

The cover of Plot Twist made me guess that this was going to be a generic romance. I've read other books about woman searching for answers by looking back at their exes. However, Dash was such a great character that I ended up really enjoying the book. I don't see many love interests struggle with addiction and it gave the story a lot of depth. The grumpy/sunshine dynamic can often be overdone, but it worked well here. The only thing I didn't love was the frequent social media references, but that's more of a personal reading preference. Never read the author before and I can't wait to check out the other book in the series.
