Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for this earc
I’m telling you think right now, this is going to be a very show review.
I didn’t like the story, the characters or the writing. I literally put this book down for weeks because i couldn’t make myself finish it.
Every single character was so incredibly immature and flat. Especially Sophia. I couldn’t care less about her. Dash could have been cute if only he actually dealt with his problems.
And the lies. Every single character in this book lied about anything and everything.
I gave this author another chance but she’s clearly not for me.

This book was just okay for me. The plot was a cute story but I didn’t really get invested in the characters or their relationship. A pass for me.

This was cute! It had a lot of representation that felt organic rather than like something that was incorporated solely for diversity points, which I appreciated. You can definitely tell that it’s a romance book written in the era of tropes, and while I think it used them better than other books I’ve read, I’m just never a huge fan of being able to pick out the tropes the author wanted to use so easily that I could’ve made a bingo card. I found that the book took a surprisingly long time for me to get into, but I started getting quite invested in the plot the latter half — although that was due to the driving force of Dash’s character as I unfortunately didn’t ever get very invested into Sophie’s character. All-in-all I do think it was well-written and will definitely find its audience! Bonus points for the conflict near the end not making me grit my teeth in frustration.
Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an eARC!
A romance author who is blocked when it comes to writing her second book. She goes viral for a video of her saying she has never been in love. She goes on a quest to interview her past partners to find out what went wrong. Along the way she starts to fall for her best friends brother who is off limits. Covers the hard issues of alcoholism and struggling to trust others in your life. Enjoyed the building of their relationship and both finding they need to work on themselves but also need to ask others for help.

I really liked this book. I was already a fan of Erin La Rosa, and this book solidified it. The main character, Sophie, is an author struggling to write her next book as a romance author that has never been in love, which already has me hooked. She has such a great journey of self discovery with Dash, and I thought they helped each other a lot in the process. They were adorable and so supportive of each other, making it a perfect little romcom.

In general, I did not love this story. The book centers around the heroine Sophie who rents from her bff's brother Dash. Dash is battling his own demons (family, alcoholism) while Sophie is trying to finish her second romance novel while also trying to figure out what is wrong with her own love life. Spoilers ahead. Something I didn't like about this book was the on again/off again nature of Sophie and Dash's relationship. They would hook up, realize that they weren't looking for the same thing, go their own ways, and then just repeat the cycle. I also didn't love Sophie exploring her old relationships; I felt like we learned nothing worthwhile from it.
Tropes you will find:
- dual POV
- grumpy/sunshine
- forced proximity
- friends to lovers

I enjoyed this book. It was sweet, handled sensitive topics well and the characters were well thought out.

I really enjoyed the first book in this series, for Butter or Worse. While you don’t have to read the first book to understand this book - I recommend reading rather than this book. Sophie is an absolute mess but it’s written to be that she’s a mess in a cute and quirky way because it’s a romance novel. Dash is also a bit of a mess, but he’s at least attempting to work on himself. The chemistry was just not there between the characters for me. Sure, there were some very spicy scenes, but all the tension was blatantly written rather than building it. There were a lot of side plot points that just felt like a waste (earthquake, Rain Boots?) and saying “I love you” and trying to make it an epic ending felt cheesy and stupid. Not the worst I’ve read, but a letdown compared to the first book. 2.75⭐️, 2.75🌶

Sophie is a romance author with a severe case of writer’s block and a due date of six weeks looming over her livelihood. Dash is her best friend’s brother, an ex-actor that grew up in the Hollywood spotlight, and a secretly recovering alcoholic.
Told in dual POV, this story is about Sophie’s journey of finding out why she never fell in love in any of her previous relationships and Dash’s everyday struggle to stay sober.
“You deserve to be loved, deeply, by someone worthy.”
Dash’s story was heartbreaking and I felt so bad for him, especially with how his family treated him like he was worthless. He deserved better from his family, but I am glad he found Soph and let himself be vulnerable.
“I fell in love with you slowly, but I plan to keep loving you fiercely.” 🫠 Oh Dash.
Giving this book 3-3.5 stars because I expected a bit more from the romance aspect. While I loved all the tropes included in this book, I wanted to see a few more happy moments. I also docked a star for how much TikTok was included in the book - while I understand that it’s modern times and everyone is on TikTok, I really didn’t care about the analytics aspects or how Sophie was making weekly videos. That’s just a personal preference for me, I don’t care too much about social media in romance books.
Also, I know my girl Sophie didn’t like confrontation (because same), but I think she should have gone after Ned and demanded at least an apology for what he did to Nina.

Thank you, Harlequin Trade Publishing and NetGalley, for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I didn't mind this simple love story of two people who are going through their own personal struggles and find out the like each other. Sophie the FMC has writers block and Dash the MMC is trying to hang on to his sobriety.
Sophie has some trust and relationships issues where she dosen't know what she wants or who she wants to be with and Dash has parent issues and dosen't want a relationship. He is also worried that he might revert back to alcoholism but can't help how he feels for soph.
I feel all the Troupes possible are in this book. I guess the author could not decide on one so she put them all and it worked fine for me. Cute love story not to much drama and it has good flow.

Solid four star read for me. I enjoyed the story and the characters. It was a fun read I breezed through.

I would like to thank #Netgalley for the free advanced reader’s copy. This book was just okay. The storyline was cute - but it was almost a DNF for me. Way too heavy on the graphic sex. Not at all a prude, but it was completely unnecessary in my opinion.

REVIEW
cw: substance abuse recovery, anxiety, mentions of IVF, stalking
When a video of romance writer Sophie Lyon professing to never having been in love goes viral, she sets about (publicly reviewing her past relationships). Former teen star Dash Montrose can't afford to be distracted by romance. His single focus is sobriety. But when his neighbour (and sister's best friend) asks for his help, he can't seem to stay away.
Plot Twist had all the ingredients I usually love in romance. But, while I liked both Sophie and Dash, some of their early decisions didn't make a lot of sense to me, and I felt the revisiting of partners past took up too much of the story.
There were some truly adorable and hilarious moments, as well as some great chemistry, but I also felt incredibly frustrated at times, both with the characterisation and the pacing. One moment, in particular, didn't feel authentic: Dash was struggling to be around people drinking, but after he told Sophie about his addiction, they kissed (immediately after she'd drunk wine). Yet neither even acknowledged it, and Dash said how good she tasted. I also felt that some of their reactions were overly heightened, and a little immature for characters in their late twenties to mid thirties. Sophie described herself as a 'monster' for liking her friend's brother, and Dash's crafting is some HUGE secret from everyone for reasons that only sort of made sense.
That said, I really did appreciate the representation in this story. I felt that Dash's daily substance abuse recovery and anxiety was handled sensitively, and the events at and after the speech really broke my heart and had me rooting for him even more. Sophie was pansexual, and I liked that her exes reflected her sexuality. Ultimately, I loved the development of Dash as a character, and I was so happy when he finally stood up to his mother. I really liked Poppy, and I really liked the dynamic between Rhys and Justine. Probably my favourite character was Chris, as he very often made the most sense. Still, while Sophie and Dash frustrated me at times, I think the story really worked in the latter third and I genuinely loved their connection and was pleased when they finally let down their guards and accepted what had been very clearly inevitable.
Not perfect but some truly sweet and emotional moments, and I'm so glad I continued reading as I loved the final third.

Favourite Quotes:
"...right now, all he wanted was her—and that was better than any high he’d ever felt."
“Dash, I hope you can hear what I’m about to say. I am not leaving. I am here. We are here for you."
“Just Dash is who I like best.”
“I will get there, Dash. I’ll trust you, if you trust me.”
Love is a word, but more importantly, love is action.

Plot Twist is a delightful blend of sweetness and spice, making it a true treat for rom-com enthusiasts. With its witty and entertaining narrative, this novel strikes a perfect balance between fun and realism, offering readers an exceptional form of escapism at its finest.

3.5 stars???
i have to say, while this book is very tropey and silly, it definitely held my interest and i really liked it!! that sex scene at 60% though…… the dialogue and descriptions were very comedic and i struggled to get through it.
this book is very fun and has a lot of good representation!!! the fmc is pansexual and has a pacemaker and the plot touches on alcoholism, recovery, and dysfunctional families. i think this book had a lot of boxes to check off, so to speak, but the main downfall is that at times it really felt that way. trying to check off every box. i also went into this book with really high expectations which may have been my downfall…..
i enjoyed the book a lot and i’ll definitely keep reading from erin!
thank you so much to erin la rosa and netgalley for gifting me this earc in exhange for an honest review!!

Close proximity? Grumpy/sunshine? Best Friends brother? Say less 😮💨
I was beyond thrilled to dive into this story. The way the tough topics were handled in Plot Twist without an over abundance of angst was perfect for me. Also, hello, that cover? Perfection. I will definitely need a trophy copy for my collection.

First, let's start with the cover!! SO cute. I love books that have cute covers, especially with drawings of the characters from the book.
I was so excited to receive an arc for this book because based on the description and title I knew this would be a popular book, After reading I can for sure say I will be recommending this to all of my bookish friends.
Plot Twist is a fantastic novel about Sophie a romance author and Dash her landlord.
Sophie is a romance author who has never been in love and is worried about her writing due to that fact. Sophie then comes up with a plan to reconnect with her exes to try to understand why she's never fallen in love. She decides to document this experience so that her new audience can come along with her.
Dash, her sexy landlord ;), is more than willing to help Sophie out with her mission. However, he has some baggage of his own. Dash is a recovering alcoholic and has an online blog that helps him to keep up his sobriety. Dash keeps this anonymous. He has a famous Hollywood family so needs to steer clear of any controversy,
This book had really cute banter and an amazing storyline. As the main characters get closer things become more intimate between the two. Unfortunately, Dash has some commitment issues and Sophie really needs some self-discovery. Watching their story pan out had my jaw dropped because of how badly I wanted things to work. They attempt a ": friends with benefits" butttt idkkkkk.
I give this read a 5/5 overall and a 4/5 for the spice I really like how each was implemented into this book.

I really enjoyed this book! It was sexy and it was also very romantic and sweet. La Rosa did an amazing job at writing two characters who have the capacity for love and to care for each other while still being imperfect people. I also love for my MCs to be writers or any sort of celebrity, so this was just for me. Additionally, I feel that it can be hard to pull off the "revisiting past relationships to interview" trope in a way that doesn't feel stinted, and Plot Twist does a great job of that. Great read!

Summary: Sophie is a romance author but currently is suffering with a combination of writer’s block and imposter syndrome. A video of her doing drunken karaoke and admitting she’s never been in love goes viral. Instead of hiding from it, she embraces it and decides to seek out all her exes to find out what went wrong.
Thoughts: This was a quick, adorable read that had a great storyline. I had a hard time at first connecting with Sophie but eventually, she wore me down.
The author does a great job at setting the scene in California, it really felt like I was there. I loved how it was immersed in the Hollywood lifestyle but the characters still felt relatable.
This one felt very modern and fresh and I really enjoyed it. Thank you to the author and publisher for providing an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. The thoughts are completely mine.

WOAH! This book was amazing. Erin created characters that had many layers and the story was very spicy and fresh. I really enjoyed this read.
